I just read an article and it seems that royal mail have got covid and some of its workers cant work so about 28 areas will be effected and might not get their post as they should do, what do you think will happen if more areas get effected by it?

It sounds like a lack of investment and good management, now that we are almost a year into the virus problem. They will have been able to recruit and their are many who would appreciate the employment and benefits, ss long as not zero hours contracts.
People deserve a regular postal service for NHS interaction, including tests, appointments, Doctor letters etc, so just those aspects show how vital the service is.
Recruitment also needs good postal service. |

"What will happen it takes longer for your post to reach you, it’s a delay it will reach you eventually "
That's because of lack of people to sort it in the morning, they're getting out the office a lot later, plus some people start their route at different points so that's why your times of delivery are different |

If it's a letter to attend for a vaccination then it could present problems.."

"The amount of untested agency staff RM used was ridiculous
It isn't just agency staff that aren't tested, the regular staff aren't either. Hubby works for RM."
So do I |

I’m not complaining, the amount they have to deal with is horrendous at the moment. Something was posted to me 6 December first class, the sender was stressing and said it will arrive when it arrives, stop worrying about it. I got it 9th January.
Everyone just needs to learn patience in this and don’t expect services to be working like clockwork or usual deadlines for various reasons. |

I did see they were sending letters out, not sure if that's countrywide or in different areas..
As Dash also said if people are isolating and request a test by post there will be problems with this.. |

RM sick record was horrendous before covid, why do think other firms won't employ ex RM staff |

That is the biggest problem plus I saw an article about somebody who had their benefits withdrawn because they didn't reply to a letter in time that hadn't actually arrived. |

I do understand that the postal service is under strain but it really isn't always a case of people just need to be patient for their post or parcels because in some situations people will miss out on vital support, Medical appointments or benefits. |

i would tend to agree, particularly when part of the reason is we don’t have enough vans because we are getting so much business ... if they have just been pushing all the additional work (which brings additional revenue) onto the existing staff that is pretty poor |

i think if a service is paid for it should be provided ... this should include postage dates
if due to estimated sickness levels they need to temporarily change what the expected timescale for 1st & 2nd class is then they should do so formally rather than just expect people to wait and see when it turns up
i don’t really have mail that i am in a hurry for but like people have said its being used for vaccination appointments, for posting covid tests, for recruitment etc - things that are more time sensitive, but more importantly than that with all the extra revenue coming in from all the extra work they should be reinvesting in their business rather than just working the existing posties into the ground - its not fair on them either |

Many of the curtain-twitchers round this neck of the burbs all took to Facebook to vent and rage at the RM delays in the area. It really was quite vile.
One local resident spoke to their postman and he explained that a third of their staff were off, either with covid or isolating or other sickness, and the rest were trying to adapt to having to work in a one-way flow in the sorting office, and hence things were taking longer. Plus some folks who were off were never coming back..as in RIP.
The resident posted to the local FB group what was going on and oh my, did that kick off another wave of entitled whinging and hostility towards the RM.
Barely an ounce of compassion, understanding or empathy at all evident in the FB group.
I imagined for a moment what if this was a world war and bombs were dropping on folk's heads ? Would they still complain ? Sadly, I think they would.
RM : "Sorry, the post office was bombed last night. During the night shift. We're still sifting though limbs and body parts, in order to locate your parcel, Mr Bloggs"
Mr B : "Well clearly you are not trying hard enough. It's a blimming outrage. Can't you just magic up a few replacements and get them on the case ? Surely with all the money you are making, that shouldn't be a problem. Oh and I don't want any blood on my letters, thank you very much."
I swear some folks are in denial that our infrastructure is all fine and dandy. Is it a defence mechanism ? I don't know.
But they are doing just as much damage to other people's mental health and self-worth and esteem as covid is wreaking on people's bodies.
Covid really has been a catalyst for some truly repugnant behaviour between folks of late, hasn't it ? |

Which is an altogether different problem! I now know of 4 people over 80 who missed a vaccine cos they don't have a mobile phone and don't answer calls from withheld numbers... If you know of anyone over 80 who hasn't had or been given a date for their jab call their GP. They've slipped through the net! |

It's still not available in all areas. Grandad's area has no mega hub and the hospital locations are more than an hour away and his GP isn't doing them yet. |

Dammit! I craft an informative, necessary message to help folk and inadvertently posted it under your excellent diatribe against 'the entitled ones'! I totally agree with you btw.
Fwiw back when everyone was clapping for the NHS, sending us much appreciated food etc I organised a collection for forgotten frontline workers in the X-ray dept I worked in.
We delivered a 'thank you' tray of Chocolate Oranges* to various places, including the local Post office depot. Those who know, know. Those who complain don't know the reality.
*They were 50p each at Asda. I apologise if you were in the queue behind me when I bought them |

Sorry how wants to work at the moment we have advertised at work for a clener 16 hours a week 1 reply. And packing staff 39 1/2 hours not 1 reply. If you are on furlough you give up you old rights so why take a job when you could be made redundant and get paid to do nothing eating for a payout. |

At home we've only had 2 deliveries since Xmas but as we mainly get junk mail we're not that bothered.
At work it's more of a problem as important docs, cheques and our new bank cards are being held up. We keep asking clients to email or pay by BACS but not everyone can. Our local posties have been trying to prioritise businesses but there's such an enormous backlog they're struggling. One guy said our sorting office looked like the one in Going Postal by Terry Pratchett! |

We can all help ease the burden on RM and other delivery agents by -
not doing online ordering of things we can do without
not clicking next day/48hr delivery of things we do need unless it's absolutely essential they turn up quickly.
Let's all be thoughtful and mindful of the strain this puts on these workers and give them a break and a friendly smile when we see them. |

Royal mail get paid to deliver 'junk mail' in fact its as important as a letter with a stamp, it's treated as 'live' mail, failer to deliver it would result in disciplinary action from RM

Covid Tests should be posted at the postboxes that RM have allocated. These are emptied at least once every day, some twice, some three times. We have to accept that online shopping has had a major effect on this, and of course all the staff that had had/got it, plus the staff that may have to also isolate because of it. We just need to be patient, and don't add to it by ordering stuff we really don't need. |

i don’t think anyone is moaning or angry at the postal workers at all , i’d say everyone appreciates the pressure they are under
i also don’t think its repugnant to suggest that the people running the business should be doing more to improve the situation for their customers and staff, including investing some of the revenue from the increase in business back into the company in terms of more staff and infrastructure including vans etc |

Yep thanks to all post workers
We must also remember it was big vans / lorrys delivering to offices that are now empty so the little post man on a bicycle has more to deliver. And the company has to change his big works. |
