New Strain of Coronavirus

Does anyone think that it's possible that a significant number of people don't know or understand that there's now a new, more infectious (150-170%) strain of Corona virus? I've (over)heard several people saying that they've stopped watching\listening\engaging\believing the Govt and what they hear on the news, for various reasons.

I'm wondering if that's one of the reasons why there's been a lower level of compliance during this lockdown?

I think there's a lot of people who have no clue what's going on. I think there's a lot of people who just don't care.

The newspapers etc. have cried wolf and spread untruths for too long. Many people just don't pay attention to them anymore.

I also believe that what that Professor said is true, this lockdown isn't tight enough. In the first lockdown everything except 'essential' services were locked down, this time around it's more lax, as he pointed out "I can't see how a shop selling coffee is essential".

I don't know the answer to your question, however I believe the non compliance of lockdown this time round is due to the lack of punishment for breaking rules, the wide misinterpretation of what is allowed, and the belief that you are entitled to do a thing because you live alone.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in favour of support bubbles IF you need one, but if you don't, then don't use it as an excuse to visit other households.

I live alone and am entitled to bubble, but I don't because I don't need to. I can ring or facetime family and friends.

Also too many people my age are spending time with grandchildren under the guise of providing childcare, when what the are actually doing is drinking tea and sitting chatting inside their offspring's home

People are going to supermarkets in family groups. Obviously young children can't stay home alone if their parents go shopping, but partners/ older children/mother in law's can! Some are treating shopping trips as a day out!

I have 10s more examples, and there lies the problem.

Which untruths are you referring to?

I agree, and together with the fact we didn't lockdown at Christmas, this lockdown isn't as tight as Lockdown 1, with too many caveats & exemptions. I rarely see hand sanitiser being used either. I can see a situation coming with mandatory mask wearing outdoors and a 3M rile unfortunately
