To those that claim that being a doctor doesn’t make them any more of an authority on diseases control and vaccination than yourself..

Well, Karen, I hate to break it to you, but it does. Opinion based on ten plus years of life dedicated to the study of medicine and science trumps your social media “research”. I’m tired of pretending like everyone’s opinion on the vaccine and on the pandemic are equally valid because they are not. You can not even begin to compare opinions based on double-blind placebo-controlled trials published in peer-reviewed medical journals with those gathered from social media. Your “knowledge” based on opinion from your scientifically illiterate fourth cousin twice removed who told you that the vaccine is going to turn you into an eggplant Parmesan sandwich contributes nothing of value to the arguments. Your inability to learn something new about the world around you isn’t a badge of honour or anything to be proud of. It’s embarrassing.

"Who is Karen? "

Karen is a pejorative term for women seeming to be entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is normal. The term also refers to memes depicting white women who use their privilege to demand their own way.[1][2] Depictions also include demanding to "speak to the manager", being racist, being anti-vaccination, or sporting a particular bob cut hairstyle.[3] The term has been criticised for being anti-white, sexist, ageist and misogynistic, or seeking to control female behaviour.[3] As of 2020, the term was increasingly being used in media and on social media as a general-purpose term for middle-aged white women, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and Black Lives Matter protests.[1] The term has also been applied to male behaviour.

The Guardian called 2020 The year of Karen: how a meme changed the way Americans talked about racism.

For every piece of information on the internet, there is a piece that is the opposite to it. This is why we have so many that are repeating the information, that clearly goes against government information that has been given to us.

And also maybe a bit of class shaming too, seeing as how Karen is typically a working class name.

I believe it stems from a ridiculous social medi shit storm stemming from a Tory minister photographed with a box of Yorkshire Tea. One particularly vociferous idiot calling for a boycott of said tea brand was called Karen. In a genius Tweet, Yorkshire Tea said "Karen, you are shouting at tea". Thus a Karen is anyone spouting in an equally ridiculous way. It could have been Brian, Penelope, Ahmed or Yoko.

I am not sure the gender/class/racial specificity is relevant.

Unless you want to get all Karen about it.

I think you should definitely take your valid double-blind placebo-controlled trials results and explain it to the growing number of medical professionals, because obviously they did not hear about it.

Meantime I think some of the criticisms being levelled at the OPs post is rather missing the point.

Oddly very scant detail on the details of the polling? it’s reads like something written by a journalist who heard it from his mate Keven who’s third cousins neighbours dog told him down via Twitter. I know a number working in the medical profession, all of them are already or desperate for their jab.

Well it arguably is as the term ‘Karen’ is used to stereotype a woman of a certain age - which is sexist.

I do not feel this was the intent of the OP though.

having met more than a couple of future Doctors while at uni, inepuld saybthat trusting them all is stupid, the amoubt of then that openly admitted to cheating in exams was really worrying.

In addition to that Drs. prescribe medicines that they have little understanding of overall.

so yeah not onky cant you trust 100%o f Doctors, bt also you cant take what they say as 100% factual.

Having said that, i do admire genuine doctors who are committed to knowledge and health of their patients.

The ' solution' to the deniers et al is pretty simple .

Ask them to work and help out on a Covid ward for just one shift .

I'm no expert but I think quite a few might change their opinion then .

"Who is Karen?

From wiki

So basically a racist terminology but can't be racist because she's white. "

I take it that your post is meant to be ironic?

"Were these the same drs who had to be told a few years ago to "wash your hands".

Gave out Thalidomide tabs.

Unlimited antibiotics.

benzodiazepines.

Used ECT.

And you want me to trust these people ?

"

They still use ECT and I have seen first hand how a family member has got their life back after having this treatment. So whilst many dont agree with its use many do.

Spoke to my doctor a month or so ago whilst at the surgery about the vaccine and she asked me if I would have it, my reply was simple. I have followed medical advice in the past and I will continue to do so in the future , so yes I will be having the vaccine.

I do read up on things for myself but I dont use social media sites for my information.

(I’ve paraphrased here but the sentiment of the original is spot on)

Conversely, studying medicine does not make you the be all and end all of knowledge. Get off your high horse

Absolutely and neither does being a qualified scientist "

Or having any training or specialism in anything ever . That’s why my baker does my electrical work, the plumber is currently fitting a new engine in my car & my doctor is planning a house extension.
