Infection spreading...

So schools broke up before xmas.. Some a week early.. Sometime between 14 and 19 Dec. Here we are 3 weeks later and infections have sky rocketed. Even though schools have been closed for something like 3 weeks and very clearly not spread there in the last 3 weeks. Do people still think they are a massive vector or that other behaviours and demographics are driving up infections so quickly?

I think focussing on one thing as the main culprit for spreading covid is diverting attention away from the fact that there are myriad ways for it to spread, most of which are beyond our control.

It's going to spread, it doesn't matter what we do. The only way we can mitigate it even slightly is by those of us who can, isolating as much as possible and everyone else doing the hands, face, space thing. The bloke stacking the shelf in the supermarket stands as much chance of doing all that as he does of flying to the moon, poor sod.

and yet people can't do outdoor sport like tennis golf etc... were is the logic for it, those activities are good for your physical and mental health.

especially the underground. how was london ever in tier 2 and middle of nowhere in the england tier3 was beyond me.

The underground will continue working, how do you expect the key staff to get to hospitals etc. Most in London don’t live where they work and driving for all is not an option due to lack of car parking.

Another factor is that most building sites all start work at a similar time.

Yeah I always make a point of thanking the staff in the supermarket when I go in... Which is less and less often. I'm down to pasta and olive oil twice a day at the moment!

If anything the times of working (in construction) have been extended, it’s now 08.00 - 21.00 Monday - Saturday, this isn’t to stagger start times but to get more work done.

its the new variants...this virus keeps mutating and finding ways to spread...hence why lockdowns/vaccines etc dont work. Scientists say you have to learn to live with it just like the flu which is a type of coronavirus.

The flu is not a type of coronavirus. Influenza viruses are, well, influenza viruses. Coronaviruses are coronaviruses.

Influenza viruses are from the family Orthomyxoviridae, whilst coronaviruses are of the family coronaviridae. Both types of viruses are single stranded RNA when it comes to genome, but coronaviruses are positive-sense, whilst influenza viruses are negative-sense. Positive-sense genomes do not need to be transcribed, the viral RNA acts as messenger RNA (mRNA) without any earlier step. Negative-sense genomes must first use the host cell to transcribe an opposite copy of their single stranded genome, to create a sequence of mRNA that can be translated by host cell ribosomes.

There are many different sub families of influenza viruses, of which alpha, beta and gamma-influenza will infect humans.

I hope this clears up the substantial difference between influenza virus and coronavirus

Oh the good ol swedes. They've not been mentioned for a while. The swedes may well have been right for Sweden. But for all the arguments already done 100s of times on here. Each country has its own demographics, densities, behaviours, transport, gene pool. And one size does not fit all.

Lost count the amount of times I've said exactly this to people, deaf ears n all that. Today I had someone say over the phone 'I hope it's the mild coronavirus I've got'. Tempered the reply as not wanting to worry and for them to remain positive.

Not sure what the evidence is that lockdowns and vaccine don’t work. Lockdowns reduce transmission but only if people comply. No evidence of a mutation that the vaccine is ineffective against.

The vaccines work, so I have to presume that you have not read any of their research trial evidence.

The number of people vaccinated is currently around 2%, so it will not make any substantial difference, until all vulnerable groups have been vaccinated and their immune systems have developed immunity. Hospital admissions should then start to fall. But I assume that you wanted to post an alrming, totally unfunded claim. It's the sort of action that causes others needless distress and you would be better not to do such an atrocious thing.

The flu is not in any way a type of coronavirus, which shouts of the degree that you are not speaking from any knowledge. It's wiser to say nothing than incorrect, alarming claims. You could also take a few moments to fact check, before posting.

Finally, Sweden is not doing very well. They continue to have fatality and infection issues that are way above their Scandinavian neighbour countries.

If you are worried about things, it's fine to post here openly, there are many others who will help and support you.

Our rates have soared over the past week or so, meaning infection was probably in the previous 14 days or thereabouts.

Around here, I've seen several groups of kids going between their respective houses. Just before Christmas people were clearly meeting up in car parks hugging & kissing before heading off shopping etc. It's been almost as if the past 9 months hadn't happened. We also had a fair few from tier 3 & 4 down on holidays.

People may well be fed up of restrictions, but the longer people ignore social distancing, hand hygiene, face coverings etc, the infection rate will continue to soar. People move the virus.

You have my utmost sympathy. After all this is over and there's a few quid back in the Exchequer, I'm going to propose that it's spent on basic science literacy classes, because I have genuinely been astounded at the lack of a) knowledge, b) ability to read around even the most basic concepts and c) select appropriate sources with relevant supporting evidence or ability to be cross referenced.

You are right... I think the inherent laziness and ubiquitous Google have removed people's desire to learn for themselves.... "I can watch a 2 minute YouTube clip that tells me all I need to know"...blind leading the blind in many cases.

In response to my own question.... Here's some info I just found on BBC that may be of interest.... Admittedly from a union leader but hopefully facts are facts.

"Commenting on the latest Coronavirus Infection Survey from the Office for National Statistics , Dr Bousted, said: "Let this data end their confusion. Schools are clearly driving infection amongst children, and then onto the wider community.

"This peaked on Christmas Day with one in every 27 secondary-age children and one in 40 primary-age children infected.

"In London this rises to one in 18 secondary pupils and one in 23 primary pupils. These figures are truly shocking and entirely the result of government negligence."

Well if you want look at something

Look at wales they shut had fire break and no one went out and still went up

It’s because nobody know the true numbers of infection

I got told in March was 10.000 a day

But loads of people had it that didn’t get tested

Loads more got it and no symptom

So unless you test everyone regular ul not know if it’s new cases existing or and let’s not forget the false positive and the test are only 60% accurate
