I think this sums up why this virus is spreading:
Friend at work has been ill since just after Christmas with what they described as just a cold.
When asked maybe they should have a test, shrugged it off saying they know it’s just a cold.
Still wasn’t getting better but said they’d give it a couple more days before testing as it was just a cold.
Haven’t been in work during this time but have been out to the shops etc
Finally had a test their cold and then admitted cough weren’t getting better and has had a positive test returned. |

When your friend was ill they should of just got a test I was sick last year and got s test straight away just to be on the safe side same for anyone else
Just get a test if your ill or have symptoms it's easy and very quick to get from nhs online |

Agree. Part of the problem is also the restricted list of symptoms upon which you can get a test in many places (asymptomatic testing isn't available everywhere). When I had it in late March/early April, loss of taste and smell wasn't on the UK list of symptoms, only temperature and cough. I had neither of those symptoms. I had absolutely zero taste/smell, splitting headache and tiredness. That's it. |

Lots of people are presenting with common cold symptoms and have tested positive with none of the main 3 coronavirus symptoms, we can only ride it out until the vaccinations are greatly reducing hospital admissions |

It seems madness to me that more people aren't using the symptom free testing places. Near me they are recommending you go twice a week.
Simple and quick test and results back same day.
Before and during Christmas the place was packed out. Now people don't seem to be bothering.
It's the key to lowering the spread. |

so your aware if you phone the covid line and tell them just checking as you have cold flu like symptoms you will be told your fine just carry on as usual no need for testing.
It's easy to lay blame but that's the guidance from the nhs |

Is spreading because even people who are positive are out and about and arnt bothered about isolating. People are still meeting up, with no regard to who they are meeting and spreading it to. People are not going for a test even though they have symptoms in case they are told to isolate, and carry on as normal.
That's why we are in the shit.

Its spreading for many reasons. As someone said, some people are asymptomatic so wouldnt have a clue they have it. These people can only isolate if told they have come in contact with people who have symptoms.
Its not a perfect system but if anyone had any symptoms its better to be safe than sorry and get tested immediately. |

Equally though I've had a cough for a while. Hasn't concerned me as I get this cough every year for asling as I can remember. People still back off and say I should get tested. Turns out I had to get tested due to an outbreak at work but I was as I suspected negative. |

"At least your friend wasn't at work. There are many who don't want to be tested simply because they have to work to get paid."
And this is part of the problem if you are self employed, no work means no pay. |

There isn't just one reason the virus is spreading.
The overarching problem is that there are not the facilities and resources to deal with all the many problems thrown up by the virus. Simply asking us to stay at home, not mix etc is a sticking plaster on a gaping wound. There are too many reasons people need to go somewhere. |

My mum's in hospital at the moment. It's going to be impossible for her to isolate when she gets home. She's been in a place where 50% of the beds have covid patients in them and a major incident has been declared. When she gets home she will have carers two to three times a day, there are three or four of them and they go to several households in a day. My father will be there obviously. If she's caught covid all those people will be at risk and it will be like throwing a pebble in a pond.
It's time to stop blaming everyone else and realise that we can only do so much to stop this but that those of us who can stay at home absolutely should. |

Really? Yet I’ve seen 6 status’s on my feed this morning from people wanting meets or who have meets planned at the weekend. However it only takes 1 of those I mentioned to be a symptomatic they meet and pass it on. So it more than a small minority breaking rules. |

Even if you are employed, if your company drops you to statutory sick pay after 3 days then you can lose a huge chunk of a months wages, at a time when things are already nightmarish! |

I was in IC with COVID I had no coughing, no loss of taste and no breathing problems ( until it was too late) all I had was (TMI) diarrhoea. I didn’t get a test until I woke up one morning unable to breathe and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance. They tested me when I got there. One of the main problems is the symptoms it’s so different for everyone. When my husband got it he had a bad cough and loss of taste he got tested immediately. None of our three kids got it. |

If you are actually self employed and not a "director" of your own company then SEISS is there.
I claimed first 80% grant. Was back working for 2nd 70% grant so didn't need to claim. November and current lockdown meant I lost work again so claimed 3rd grant. |

Some of them were going to other people’s homes and not disclosing they had covid! I know a family of 3 who were all positive and went to a friends house for Christmas because they didn’t want to miss out!
And we wear masks to protect others, not ourselves! And some of us don’t have the opportunity to stay at home as we are key workers. Plus we need to go food shopping. It’s the ones with covid that should be staying at home. |

I’ve been the first to say that there is no such thing as a lockdown, clearly many many people have to move about and work as previously discussed simply to get food on the shelves, water through the pipes, medicines to the sick etc etc etc
BUT saying it’s a “tiny” minority disobeying the rules... not buying it. Even with self reporting 25% of people admitted breaking lockdown rules in December:

I’ve been the first to say that there is no such thing as a lockdown, clearly many many people have to move about and work as previously discussed simply to get food on the shelves, water through the pipes, medicines to the sick etc etc etc
BUT saying it’s a “tiny” minority disobeying the rules... not buying it. Even with self reporting 25% of people admitted breaking lockdown rules in December:

If you are actually self employed and not a "director" of your own company then SEISS is there.

The second SEISS grant wasn't conditional on you working. You could have claimed and it wouldn't have been a problem.
The third grant is conditional on loss of profits, although I'm not sure how thats really defined!

Many reasons why still spreading inc:
1) Idiots ignoring rule/guidance
2) Govt being completely inept
3) Not closing airports or borders (17 flights a day arrived from New York when they had 50k + cases
4) Lack of adequate financial safety net (inc lowest statutory sick pay in Europe + huge gaps in support for self employed or Ltd Company Directors)
5) Eat Out To Help Out now resulting in Rishi’s Rona
6) Transferring untested elderly ppl back into care homes from hospital
7) Multiple ppl catching from hospital (when admitted for other reasons)
