Return of clapping for NHS

Just read this on a news item. Are they serious? What are your views. I feel its an absolute insult to those hard working risk taking members of the NHS . We are nearly a year down the line and a lot have stuck their fingers up at those people and carried on their selfish ways. I for won't be doing it. I will do as I did last year and say a little prayer for all those courageous people some who have lost their lives.

If we want to honour our Heroes of the NHS.

Do as you are told

STAY HOME

STOP MEETING

STOP THE SPREAD.

That is the greatest honour you can do

I whole heartedly agree with you.

I won’t be going out and clapping.......I don’t trust my mouth to keep shut when the old fella and his mrs across the road claps in my direction when during the whole lockdown he’s had numerous visitors to his house.

It’s and he is a hypocrite.

It needs something that shows the displeasure and anger that folk feel towards this Government and their handling.

Something like sit in your car and turn the headlights on or a light in your house window.

Something thats peaceful but can be seen. Going outside and mixing with your neighbours banging pots and pans is the work of a Covidiot.

Vaccinate every one of those hero's above and beyond anyone else.

Extended fully paid holidays for each and every one of the heroes once we are 'clear'.

Hey you shouldn't feel embarrassed, yes all key workers should be thanked for what they do, the NHS staff are the real hardcore workers who have to care for the real ill patients with Covid that really places their life on the line more than any other key workers that deliver or work in supermarkets and food supply. So you and all NHS workers and all the 999 workers should hold your heads up high and be proud of the work and risks that you all take for us!!

Yes I get your point! NHS workers are under extreme stress now so say a prayer for them! We made our point last year with the 'clap'... The fact is it's people who are causing the spread of the virus. These are selfish individuals and obviously choose to ignore the daily warnings and distressing stories. The worst are the mindless morons (I'm sure none are members on here!) who crowded outside a London hospital recently with placards claiming Covid-19 is a hoax! They could have been delaying ambulances and medical staff. We are too soft! In some countries (tho not the USA I would guess!) Riot police would've been deployed to disperse these idiots!

My ex colleagues who have voluntary seconded across to the LAS driving ambulances again are totally opposed to any such clapping..

My wife a nurse of forty plus years, my siblings, off spring, sis in law, four nieces and nephews also NHS one brother in law and one sister in law also blue light have all said the same..

Well for a start quite a fair few of them pay as little tax as possible.

Do nurses and other public sector workers not work hard?

Our local hospital was ‘broken’ into last weekend and areas filmed by covidiots to try and prove covid is a hoax.

All it did was scare patients and staff shocking behaviour.

Don't encourage them. We get more than enough idiots parked with headlights on facing into traffic already. With street lighting downgraded to 'Twinkle, twinkle, little star levels they are an inconsiderate and illegal menace.

A light in the window, fine. It discourages burglars who also might sneak in while people are out clapping with the door left open!

Why should anyone be clapping when our own government is unable to support our NHS as I remember many many years ago NHS picketing asking for money from the government and even now requested an increase and government did say no but decided to increase a little but not enough I'm all for the NHS and have family and friends who are part of the NHS but clapping is showing appreciation but we need when safe to do so is something unreal a huge public protest so the government treats our NHS professionally with the money that is required for state of the art equipment for saving lives and decent wages this is long overdue....

I agree but do lorry drivers. Shop assistants. Takeaway staff etc. Go to work everyday to take care of sick covid patients or any patients. No one is saying they arent key workers but with all due respect this was about NHS WORKERS

James Dyson is worth an estimated £10 billion.

Aside from the fact that he wishes to remain British, pays minimal tax and has everything made abroad ....

What on Earth is he going to do with £10 billion, thats his personal net worth, not what’s being reinvested in the company.

20% of £10 billion is £2billion, am sure he could struggle by on £8 billion and just think what good could be done with that £2 billion for the NHS and other key public bodies.

It was reported today that the bosses of the top 100 ftse companies recieve the average median wage of full time workers (£31,461 a year) within 34 hours work.

Chief executive pay is about 120 times that of the typical UK worker, up significantly from two decades ago.

Estimates suggest it was around 50 times at the turn of the millennium or 20 times in the early 1980s.

Your fine with that then that those at the top get more while those below get less?

You will likely find that the top 100 dont work very hard, in fact barely work at all, they have other so the work and collect all the cream.

Why not take 2% of the Windsor family money and give it back to the people. Pay freeze for mps for 5 years and avtually make companies like Google, Amazon, Starbucks etc pay a higher amount of tax. lastly legalise and tax cannabis, surely we are over the BS that it is a terrible drug by now.

You will likely find that the top 100 dont work very hard, in fact barely work at all, they have other so the work and collect all the cream.

Raise their salaries across the board, not by the pittance 2% of last year but 20% fir each of these front liners.

It is this time.

It's "Clap for Heroes" and is supposed to be for the NHS, delivery drivers, teachers, supermarket workers, home schooling parents, anyone you think deserves it.

It's supposed to be a way of bringing back some feeling of community, pride and a little bit of cheer during this shitty time.

Personally I see nothing wrong with that.

Honor them whenever you like, but the Yoga teacher who started it thought it would be a nice gesture.

She even called for the last one to stop when it became too political.

I think she does want people to actually show their gratitude, as most don't usually do anything to show it.

Definitely won't be clapping after caring for some older patients who have had their vaccination and others who are going to have in the next fortnight are planning "vaccination parties" while businesses are closing down everywhere. The whole process is a joke and so many people should be ashamed of what it happening.

We clapped for the first week or two and it felt quite emotional, we were all worried and really appreciate all the NHS staff risking their health. However, it soon lost its gravitas and felt a bit patronising.

We’ve both worked throughout lockdown in key worker roles, we didn’t get claps or queue jumping or store discounts but we don’t begrudge the NHS workers who did, we are just thankful we still have our jobs and our health, although we weren’t feeling quite as positive when covid hit our house.

The only real display of appreciation would be for everyone to follow the rules.

I never clapped, it was headology used to take people's minds off it. It made no difference apart from people thinking they were doing something useful.

Stop spreading the virus, wear your mask properly, stop popping into your neighbours because there no real harm in that. There is.

We did clap for a couple of weeks the first time, it was emotional at the time because of what they were dealing with and not knowing if they would get it while doing that.

Then it turned into who can make the loudest noise, so drums, car horns pans etc turned up, then singing as if they were at parties, donuts from boats on the Thames while rows of police cars and people not socially distancing on Westminster Bridge while those poor people were still dying and those NHS workers still dealing with hell....so we stopped going outside to do it.

I won't be doing it this time, not because I don't think they deserve it but because I think the message got lost the last time of why we were meant to be doing it.

Maybe if people went out and banged pots and pans when government put in place the terrible new contracts for GP's or during the student nurse strike or when they stopped funding for nurses and replaced them with loans or loaded to NHS with high interest debt using private finance initiatives people wouldn't need to clap.

I think it can quite easily used as a distraction much like the old fella walking in the garden story.

It detracts from the real issues.

Like many above have posted, I see it as an empty gesture especially some of the people doing it. I'd rather pay a little more tax, see it funded properly and the staff paid at a decent rate.

You know it’s the tax payer who funds that, right? I’m all for giving people the wages they deserve but that’s not really feasible without taking it away again in taxes. We’ve still got to find out how much all the furlough payments are going to cost us in the long run.

Just read this on a news item. Are they serious? What are your views. I feel its an absolute insult to those hard working risk taking members of the NHS
