Strangely I’m feeling optimistic after the last 48h.
I’ve done my fair share of moaning, questioning and criticising over the last few months, but I do feel a sense of acceptance of where we are at with Lockdown 3.0
7 weeks of doing very little at a time of year when it is cold, wet, dark and miserable, a time where I don’t do much in general anyway, I see it as down-payment of being able to have some normality in the spring.
I can’t change or influence anything, moaning and groaning about it will drag me down at a time of year where I struggle anyway. What I can do is do my bit and follow the rules. If we all collectively do our bit, we will get out of this mess sooner rather than later.
So from now on I’m forgetting the statistics, I’m avoiding the workplace debates and I’m taking my frustrations out on exercise.
I’m looking forward to seeing my friends soon, I’m not going to fist-pump or shake their hand, I’m going to hug the shit out of them. I might even shed a tear when it happens, such will be the relief, and I can’t wait to be able to do it.
For me this is the storm before the calm. It’s like the second lap of the Grand National, there has already been many fallers, there are loose horses in the mix causing chaos and there are lot of big fences left to jump, but we’ve cleared The Chair and we only face that once. It’s a long stamina-sapping run-in after the final fence, but we’ll get there eventually.
