“Schools are incredibly safe places” probably one of the most infuriating statements during this pandemic. Irresponsible and misleading.

Primary schools are a Petri dish of bacteria and viral infections. Second only to a cruise ship.

It’s unlikely that a primary school pupil will become seriously ill with Covid but they will spread it wildly in the community.

Additionally, have we forgotten that one of the little tricks this virus has is an ability to live on surfaces for days and days. Can you imagine a hand rail in a stair in a primary school coated in Covid!

Also nobody gives any thoughts to the janitors, cleaning staff and kitchen staff.

They all have families just like teachers.

Politicians keep on banging the drums about getting pupils back into school as being the most important thing.

Getting ahead or on top of the virus is the most important thing.

So the kids, secondary school pupils and university students miss out on education for a while. It’s not the end of the world for them. But for many others getting this virus is the end of the world.

Everything he just said. My household is just getting over covid.

Both of my children had the virus (aged 6&7), but honestly you would never have known it. They both had a minor cough, and one day they were quiet, but other than that they were outwardly fine!

Kids could be a danger because of this, they can spread the virus easily because parents are initially unaware their children are ill with the virus.

It's honestly best that the school's also stay closed for a few weeks, otherwise I don't see much chance of getting things under control.

Bozo seems to be under the impression that schools only have children in them, who can carry the virus but not get seriously ill. This has been the narrative all along.

Perhaps it is different at Eton.

So what about the schools who are strictly constantly cleaned, kids frequently washed their hands and did not have one confirmed case of covid-19 last term, it is spread by any people mixing and not social distancing in any aspects then they pass it on

How many people sanitise their hands immediately after touching anything that someone else has potentially touched or breathed on

There is going to be some thick kids about soon missing so much school because the older and vunrable people can't stop mixing which in turn means they catch corona and end up in hospital in reality if old people and the vunrable stick to social distancing and follow the guidelines then they won't catch it not the kids fault.

Kids spread it as with everyone. Parents mingle out side. Teacher take the risk of catching it.

There are loads of good reason to close schools. It should have been done a month ago. The kids will suffer, parents will struggle. But the suffering and the struggles will be worse for those that loose love ones

Lots of good sense in this thread.

The risk isn’t to the kids themselves, the problem is they have no concept of hygiene or distancing, so they spread the virus without being badly affected.

Said from the begining schools should have been the last things to open not the first especially when teaching can be done remotely
