I thought it was a pub game to see how many times they can use the word 'Sweden' in a press release.

Mr Martin is not everyone's cup of tea ..a strong anti- European with controversial views of many things...

However, the wetherspoons brand represents very good value..and I for one wouldn't boycott his pubs where I can have unlimited coffee for a quid, just because I strongly disagree with his politics

When you get the king of Sweden criticising the response of the Swedish government and calling it a failure as compared to their neighbours... I hope that would finally put the comparisons to rest!

It’s only people in countries that have dealt with it really badly that look at Sweden lovingly thinking they did a good job

Having not seen the press release I can’t comment, but you cannot compare the UK and Sweden, one is a densely populated largely urban populous, the other is widely spaced with a few urban areas.

You would feel safer as they're shut because non essential. However, supermarkets are essential and if you don't feel safe going to a supermarket, then don't go. Simples

"A millionaire who told his staff to go and work in Tesco turns out to be a massive cunt.

What he actually said was, if any staff on furlough want to work for tesco he would hsppily let them. Companies who furloughed their staff were allowed to refuse them to go and work elsewhere. So he was actually doing his staff a favour, saying they could go and work for 100% instead of furlough 80

Whilst on furlough, your employer has no say in whether you do other work. I believe he said they "should take other work if they can" whilst saying he wouldn't be paying staff after the pubs were closed. As with most stories of this type, there was a lot of exaggeration in the press.

My local followed every rule to the letter, set a limit of 30 people you had to pre pre book, or wait for someone to leave. My Mrs works in a supermarket she’s claims not one of the idiots though but she does comment on the ones that do come in in family groups.

After being contacted by Tescos asking for help to fill 20000 vacancies.

Their job at Weatherspoons was always there for them to come back to.

In fact, Weatherspoons have made no redundancies, and have paid all their suppliers in full.

They certainly don't buy short dated beer from my friend's brewery.

I'm not an admirer of Tim Martin, rarely drink in his pubs. He just needs to sort out the dodgy communication problems that he sometimes has.

So you won’t go to a Wetherspoons as the boss said if you don’t want to sit at home I fully understand if you want to take a job at a supermarket while they are extremely busy and struggling to fullfill demand. He said he fully understood if they wanted to do that and they would also be given first preference of returning to their job once they was given the go ahead to reopen. It was at first very poorly reported and since most media out let’s have been forced to apologise. Please watch the video before you comment. Please don’t take your trade away from weatherspoons for this reason and risk actually putting people out of work for no reason

Even without music, you can't talk in the one near me as everyone in there seem to shout constantly.

Prefer one of our little independent ones with (not too loud) music and excellent food and beer.

Not saying anyone should boycott his pubs or anything. Was mainly countering the "no music means you can talk" argument for them.

So is the microwaved food, lack of music and general stench.

Haven’t been in one for years and certainly never again after the Tesco comments.

That's the point...no.music means you can talk and be heard "

No music means tight arse Tim doesn't have to pay for music licensing. However, the saving can be passed onto customers, just like the microwaving of everything, low wages, grubby venues and close to out of date, cheap food.

I can see why the above might be appealing to some, but it's not for me, personally. I made this decision long before I knew of his hysterical anti-EU views and general disdain for his staff.

I have been in literally 100s of Wetherspoon pubs through a job I do, not sure where you get the near sell by date food from, they have strict guidance on when the food should be used by, the near to sell by beer is a load of Bull too as I see there deliveries, they also promote many many local beers to each area, the wages are in line with all others in that trade, and yes a fair bit of the food is put in the microwave but all the pub chains are like these days, and again a portion of there pubs are a little tired looking, but there are many many that are very nice and modern.

The accounts of the EU and its predecessors have always been audited.

The first report of the independent European Court of Auditors was for 1977-1978.

It is true that the Court has been critical in the past.

The claim in "Tim's Viewpoint" in the magazine for Summer 2018 saying "the unaudited coffers of the EU" makes no sense.

Did the magazine invite the European Commission to comment? Was the Commission's reply printed?

They buy "short dated" stock at a reduced price because they know they can sell it quickly (normally)

They buy it in bulk and get a much better deal as they are a big company.

Members of the European Parliament do not formally initiate legislation. That's for a good reason.

The European Commission is asked to do the job of formally making legislative proposals because it is there to work for all the countries equally.

That *is* how it works in a democracy - when you are talking about a shared international organisation that is about agreements that are going to apply to all the members equally.

The lovely thing, in my opinion, about Spoons is that they so often breed life into our old great buildings, retaining their character and catering for most tastes. A great selection of real ales and basic food at a reasonable price. It's not fine dining or pretending to be.

I think he initially got bad press because in the first batch of closures & furlough his income stopped dead, Then he was told to pay staff 80% wages which would be reimbursed to him. When he asked when he was told anything between six & twelve weeks before the Gov started paying.

It was then he made his statement, I believe the reimbursement time is no ow about two weeks.

You hate him because you saw a millionaire not paying his staff, me too, what I also saw was someone taking the Gov to task publically about the delays & possibly helping smaller companies (non millionaires) from going under before getting furlough money reimbursed?

How many more would go under if they still had to wait three months to get money back all the time they were shut?

But he’s still a cnt

So many people are using this statement the wrong way because you didn’t see the full interview and the media edited what they shown!!

What he actually said was, if any staff on furlough want to work for tesco he would hsppily let them. Companies who furloughed their staff were allowed to refuse them to go and work elsewhere. So he was actually doing his staff a favour, saying they could go and work for 100% instead of furlough 80%

He has not thought it through. Would he like MEPs to formally propose legalisation?

If so, which MEPs? MEP seats are weighted towards the smaller countries. But the largest country is Germany, still a minority in the EU's democratic system.

The largest party? No, because legislation should not serve the selfish interest of a particular group.

Should there be lottery like in Westminster? No thank you.

The blimp was privately funded. We also have this thing called free speech here in the UK - although, it's qualified in some respects. People seem to forget this when the speech doesn't reflect their own views.

He also approved an unflattering caricature blimp of himself that was flown in response to the Trump blimp.
