We haven’t really had lockdown that is just a word. Stay at home order doesn’t mean you can’t go out, if you have a reasonable excuse then outside you can go.

Central

They come a couple of times a week with faux innocence, thinking millions can be sidelined and have zero relationships to the rest of us. And that everyone else can have a normal life, regardless of how impractical it is, how much more tax they'd pay to isolate millions, rehouse them etc

I saw this and was just about to post the same. Its overdue someone credible started to call it out as it is. "blood on their hands"

We can have different opinions but how it is that people are unwilling to pull together to get us through this is hard to grasp. This is serious. We can argue over it later but let's get through this.

True but every country is different in attitudes, population density, willingness to abide by simple rules.

Population density is a huge factor.

If you meet 3 or 4 people you may get lucky. If you meet 10-20 people odds are that something will be passed between them.

A real lockdown, martial law etc. isn’t really possible in a Western country. You will always need food deliveries, health visitors to the vulnerable living alone, some basic healthcare, basic gas and electricity maintenance, police patrols etc etc

Your state has a higher population density than the UK as a whole. But that is because there are large parts of the UK were no one lives.

London has 5,701 people per square kilometre.

Whereas your state has roughly 107 residents per square kilometre

Ok so who is serving you the food and meds, ok so they have to go to work,oh who is delivering the food and meds, oh and those producing and processing the food, they will have to go out too, oh and those who provide the fuel and maintenance to all the vehicles, oh better include the electric gas and water suppliers and the factories making the parts, then we will need the emergency workers, the health providers, the tv and radio network employees, the list is endless, a"proper" lockdown in a modern society is completely impossible

It's more of a population density issue and how much people are willing to abide by the rules. Here it's just mask and social distancing it worked. Getting back to semi normal.

Yes I think we’ve agreed that

There’s so little reporting of what’s been going on in China by comparison for example, although there was a bit more in the papers today.

I suspect health visits, food deliveries to the vulnerable etc haven’t happened at all and they will have a very high “forgotten” death toll.

All of that was covered in the paragraph before mine so not quite sure of your point. It is obvious some individuals are needed to keep the country moving but the rest can do their bit and stay indoors

That's exactly what should of happend in March not 10 months down the line

All this bull bout don't go out unless you have to work from home unless you can't

I'm a site support agent for construction every day I visit a new site an come into contact with as many as 60 people

I travel up and down the whole of UK

Unfortunately I'm unable to do this from home so being as construction was never stopped I've had to continue to work

Construction wasn't the only businesses that remained open many manufacturing factories continued throughout all this

There is no lockdown and never will be that's why its taking so long to control the virus

Until everyone is vaccinated we will Continue to be expected to go to work put our self at risk then go home and stay in doors like perfect sheep

Before anyone jumps on me I've adhered to all rules stayed home except for work wear my mask try n keep a distance but come on people what we are doing isn't working

The only people with blood on there hands is the government for being too slow and unclear in all of there instructions

Lock down should be just that only NHS police fire emergency services and gas n electric workers should be the only ones working

Super markets should only be supplying via delivery or click n collect and managed by a system put into place via the government

Schools shouldn't be reopening transmission rates are way to high home schooling via zoom or similar should be in place now they had long enough

The whole of the UK is in the mess for one reason only the governments slow response

Totally agree. Absolutely impossible..

Even in dictatorships, you cannot kerp everyone down

I don't mind reasonable suggestions but martial law, house arrest is just stupid as well as being impossible

Agree that stopping certain jobs has a knock on effect to other job roles

So looking at it in that way we should go to work if we can't from home risk catching it from someone we come in contact with then take it home to pass onto loved ones who are working from home or to our kids so they can carry on spreading it at school

Part time lockdowns are doing nothing but slow the inevitable

We will all catch it at some point

Ah, so who transports the food etc to the houses? Do you get a choice or does everyone get the same?

How many delivery vehicles would you need? How many drivers in home deliveries? Suitable vehicles of course and suitable drivers. Then you need lots and lots of staff to make up the orders and then lots of hgv drivers to supply from the warehouses to the point of sale or places to make up the orders. Hgv drivers to keep stocking the warehouses or distribution centres. The staff in the distribution centres. Fuel to sites and distributors. Maintainance staff. This would be totally impossible logistically for any government. The armed forces could not cover.

So, about the lock down?

Exactly so why call it a lockdown

Like I said its OK for us to travel and work with strangers but we are expected to stay in our homes after work and not mix with family n friends

Makes perfect sense

Or perhaps we are immune whist working

Truth is either we will all get it at some point hopefully mildly or it won't end until everyone is vaccinated so effects are zero to none

"How is it that our state with 0 stay at home orders mitigated covid and UK with lockdown can't? Population density ?

We haven’t really had lockdown that is just a word. Stay at home order doesn’t mean you can’t go out, if you have a reasonable excuse then outside you can go.

A real lockdown, martial law etc. isn’t really possible in a Western country. You will always need food deliveries, health visitors to the vulnerable living alone, some basic healthcare, basic gas and electricity maintenance, police patrols etc etc

That's exactly what should of happend in March not 10 months down the line

All this bull bout don't go out unless you have to work from home unless you can't

But that's because a lockdown by name is not enough to control the virus. You need people to be compliant with the rules and guidance of the lockdown to make the lockdown effective. Lack of compliance undermines the effectiveness of the lockdown.

South Korea did not lockdown at all, and they seem to have better control of the virus - partly due to higher levels of compliance with "hands - face - space" and other rules and guidance they've been asked to follow.

It's just weird how some places has a explosion of cases and some don't. One mitegation works and another doesn't."

They don’t, the infection rate surges with each area, each strain... what we saw start in London and Wales a fortnight ago has just hit liverpool and Manchester for example.

We just have different timelines per area x

Thanks for clearing that up for me

So if I travel daily up and down the country for work mixing with 100s of people a week that I don't know or where they have been as long as after work I go home and stay in there's no risk of me contracting the virus or spreading the virus to others if I'm asymptomatic

Makes sense now then

A real lockdown, martial law etc. isn’t really possible in a Western country. You will always need food deliveries, health visitors to the vulnerable living alone, some basic healthcare, basic gas and electricity maintenance, police patrols etc etc

See that to me is a lockdown, set time and permission to go get your food shop, pick up medicine and alike. Everything else you stay indoors. Will never happen though

All of that was covered in the paragraph before mine so not quite sure of your point. It is obvious some individuals are needed to keep the country moving but the rest can do their bit and stay indoors "

It worries me when people say that it's ok for some individuals to keep the country running, those words and other comments in this thread show few people seem to have a clue about how many people are involved in just keeping the country running, the problem it seems to me is that people think food comes from supermarkets, water, power and gas comes from pipe and cables, huge numbers simply have no idea how the modern world works, god help us if we had a real emergency such as a natural disaster which destroyed all our support networks.

It doesn't make sense sometimes I work in a pharmacy and have hundreds of people a day. Our small trucking company hauls hospital waste ventilator tubes gowns gloves masks. None of our employees contracted the virus. It's crazy to think but it don't make sense sometimes.

The point being : just 'announcing' a lockdown will not control the virus. Complying ( or lack of) with the rules of the lockdown is what makes the lockdown effective (or not).

Maybe we should have a had Military style lockdown like Peru had? They had one of world's most strictest Lockdowns.

Unfortunately it hasn't played out well, Peru has the world's 2nd highest per capita Covid-19 death toll.

I’m fully aware thank you of the people involved behind the scenes. That doesn’t stop the rest of us being locked down properly and tougher restrictions in place.

Like what and how would you suggest it be enforced? "

As said before (except essential workers) all members of the household stay indoors. You have a set time and permission to go get your food shop (once a week), pick up medicine and alike, all with permission slips to be outdoors. Should be one member of the household only, anything else you stay indoors. Will never happen though

"...There is no lockdown and never will be that's why its taking so long to control the virus..."

------------------------------

But that's because a lockdown by name is not enough to control the virus. You need people to be compliant with the rules and guidance of the lockdown to make the lockdown effective. Lack of compliance undermines the effectiveness of the lockdown.

South Korea did not lockdown at all, and they seem to have better control of the virus - partly due to higher levels of compliance with "hands - face - space" and other rules and guidance they've been asked to follow.

So you've been totally and completely compliant with the regulations and laws 24/7 since 23rd March?

How would YOU make any lockdown effective?

The point being : just 'announcing' a lockdown will not control the virus. Complying ( or lack of) with the rules of the lockdown is what makes the lockdown effective (or not)."

In a western civilization people are going to do what they want right or wrong. It's what defines us. Virus or not . People don't take kindly to dictatorship. You either can deal with it or embrace the suck. Unfortunately it sucks. Government that has strict control over the population is not a ideal situation. Once you give them that compliance what is next.

Some of them seemed to go ballistic with fewer controls, with armed groups protesting a few months back in many city centres there, often fired up by Trump. I'm guessing they've died down now, as not hearing about them.

Don't think the NFAC militia voted for Trump . So your point is kind of moot don't you think ?

A real lockdown, martial law etc. isn’t really possible in a Western country. You will always need food deliveries, health visitors to the vulnerable living alone, some basic healthcare, basic gas and electricity maintenance, police patrols etc etc

See that to me is a lockdown, set time and permission to go get your food shop, pick up medicine and alike. Everything else you stay indoors. Will never happen though

All of that was covered in the paragraph before mine so not quite sure of your point. It is obvious some individuals are needed to keep the country moving but the rest can do their bit and stay indoors

I’m fully aware thank you of the people involved behind the scenes. That doesn’t stop the rest of us being locked down properly and tougher restrictions in place.

Like what and how would you suggest it be enforced?

As said before (except essential workers) all members of the household stay indoors. You have a set time and permission to go get your food shop (once a week), pick up medicine and alike, all with permission slips to be outdoors. Should be one member of the household only, anything else you stay indoors. Will never happen though"

So, who are classed as essential workers in your opinion?

Shop workers, delivery drivers, take away staff, fuel delivery drivers, 500,000 delivery drivers? 100,000 hgv drivers, refuse collectors, teachers, pharmacists,

There isn't a hope in hell there's the ability or capability to service the food needs of the nation with home deliveries.

Food once a week? How insane is that suggestion. What about the families that cannot afford a weekly shop at one shop. Ideally I know what you're saying but that will not get rid of the virus.

I feel personally population density plays a part, if you are all living on top of each other ie London etc it's harder to stay away from others, bigger geographical areas with less population seem to have less cases per 100,000.

That's just my opinion in no way facts before I get jumped on

But the problem is about 35% of the working population are considered a essential workers.

Then who is going to do the childcare for those essential workers so add in another 8% then add another 5% who are the transport workers to get these people to work So you are looking at 50% nearly of the working population.
