"This really is a game changer, crucially for the hot countries in the world. Easy to store, cheap and the UK has pledged massive amounts free of charge to the poorer nations. Yesterday's posting of "ashamed to be british" has been totally replaced by... "Proud To Be British"! " Hip hip !!

"This really is a game changer, crucially for the hot countries in the world. Easy to store, cheap and the UK has pledged massive amounts free of charge to the poorer nations. Yesterday's posting of "ashamed to be british" has been totally replaced by... "Proud To Be British"! " One amazing British success story does not make me feel proud to be British. The reason that we're in the position we are in now is because of the attitude of many Brits towards the virus and the rules throughout the pandemic.
| |||
"Absolutely great news. Now all we have to do is roll it out.... Simple ? How fortunate we are to have a Government able to facilitate this " Fortunately, the government won't need to be involved too much. Of course, they'll take the credit for everything when in fact, the credit should go to those involved in developing the virus (not gov) and those workers who are going to roll this out.

"Just been on news, roll out from January 4th " January 5th; Fab is filled with "meet now" threads. E
"Would it now make sense to have a 4 week lock down, and change testing stations to Jab points drive through. If it can be staffed tranies, army, navy, etc even cancel sport and use the team doctors and facility's." A lockdown is just being mentioned on tv, it does make sense

"Just been on news, roll out from January 4th January 5th; Fab is filled with "meet now" threads. E" Haha
"The aim is to get as many people their first shot asap, then follow up shots 12 weeks after the first. The vaccine DOES NOT stop you catching covid but rather negates its effects. Rather than get a full blown illness, you might get slight coldlike symptoms for a few days but it will keep you out of hospital. Getting as many people the first shot is hoped to give some protection. The second shot will reinforce that protection. In the meantime, research still goes on at pace into all aspects of covid. " it will take the pressure off the NHS

"Would it now make sense to have a 4 week lock down, and change testing stations to Jab points drive through. If it can be staffed tranies, army, navy, etc even cancel sport and use the team doctors and facility's." From what I understand it's not possible to have drive-through jab stations due to to monitoring needed for 15-minutes afterwards. I'm sure there are plenty of other ways to work a system out though.
"Yeh...you all know this vaccines been around for ages.covid was first recognised in 1967.its just a tweak in formuls.the reason its took this time is who's paying, how much and litigation. Some easily impressed people in fab but. .." So is it not a good thing to get many people immunised?
"Waiting for Cpt hindsight to rip the arse out of this one " yeah me too.
"Reality check people .. The target for the vaccination is one million doses per week. Population is 70million. Also bear in mind everyone needs 2 doses. Yes it might be good news, but it's not a quick fix We are still in this hole for some time yet. 2021 will not be normal Maybe 2022 if we are lucky, we might get back on the road to some recovery but that is on condition we have no further cock ups. " This 100% So many people I know think this means the end is nigh and the can't comprehend that whilst its great news the whole of 2021 will be similar to 2020. I think that summer 2022 will be the point where we finally get somewhere close to the lives we once knew. I do hope I'm wrong though. KJ

It should be very easy to get people in care homes vaccinated very quickly plus the care assistants if that is the case and they are the ones that need it most.

"Amazing news!! I wonder if the 1st meet after the jab will get the same media coverage as the 1st jab did "
| |||
| |||
"Did I hear correctly that the first and second jabs will be three months apart?" That's what I heard on the news, that they can be up to 3months apart.
"After a lot of doom and gloom yesterday some welcome good news. "
"Did I hear correctly that the first and second jabs will be three months apart?" That what it says on the bbc website.

What makes you think that ?
| |||
| |||
"Did I hear correctly that the first and second jabs will be three months apart? That what it says on the bbc website." Yes but you are almost good to go after 14 day's. Care staff on the new one first and no that would not be me. If staff are not as infected going in to homes, all in side should be safer? NO
| |||
"Will the virus forum disappear after this covid has subsided? Where will all the fab scientist go to as pout their wisdom? " Spout*
"Thought the Oxford jab was only a single one unlike the pfzier which requires 2 Also low storage temps were not required so easier to vaccinate and never heard anything from Oxford ones needing a 15min observation If this is true the testing stations could be used to vaccinate instead of test If as some have said things won't get back to Normal till 2022 then I don't think we will have anything normal to go back to the whole of the UK will economically collapse be like it was end of the war where food n clothing will be rationed We will become a third world country full of unemployed and people turning to crime to survive So let's hope the good news of the Oxford vaccination stops this and people and businesses can start to get back to some form of normality early on In 2021 " No it's 2, second one after 4-12 weeks
| |||
"Yes great news but hope we do not have to wait long for second jab as may happen" As I see it the second jab is a top up you still get very good results with the first jab??
"Yes great news but hope we do not have to wait long for second jab as may happen As I see it the second jab is a top up you still get very good results with the first jab?? " Yes thats understanding and what the scientists who did the trial where saying this morning in the press conference.

" In Scotland in the past week there has been 12x the number of people over 45 admitted to hospital than under 45s.I suspect UK rates would be similar. We are able to vaccinate about 15m people for flu in a 12ish week period which is more than 1m a week and that's without opening sports stadiums etc for mass vaccinations. There are 30m people aged 45 and over so double the number of people getting vaccinations then those at most risk of requiring hospital admission will be vaccinated by late march. That keeps the NHS safer and will therefore allow the easing of restrictions. As has been pointed out, only about 300 odd people under the age of 60 with no underlying health conditions have died from covid. Add those who are at risk into the vaccination programme in early April then the admissions and deaths will reduce drastically too. Social distancing, masks etc will need to be worn for a lot longer and I can't see foreign travel returning to the way it was until after the autumn and maybe 2021 but at least we'll hopefully be in lowest tier restrictions before the summer.

"Did I hear correctly that the first and second jabs will be three months apart?" * up to 12 weeks apart* doesn’t mean you have to wait 12 weeks it just means that is the time line for best efficacy

"Professor Sir John Bell, professor of medicine at Oxford University, and a part of the GAVI team – Sir John is a member of SAGE (Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies) and sits on the government’s vaccine task force that has negotiated the purchase of a handful of proposed vaccines to combat coronavirus – developing AstraZeneca’s coronavirus vaccine, said in an interview with Jon Snow that “These vaccines are unlikely to completely sterilize a population. They are very likely to have an effect which works in a percentage, say 60 or 70%.” " In which case the virus will naturally die out with less hosts to infect. 60/70% is better than no protection at all
"Did I hear correctly that the first and second jabs will be three months apart? * up to 12 weeks apart* doesn’t mean you have to wait 12 weeks it just means that is the time line for best efficacy" Yes 4 to 12 weeks for the second jab which makes it more flexible and as others said can be stored on a standard fridge
| |||
"There's gonna be a lot of happy people in that lab. These research scientists and their collective research teams (both home and abroad with alternatives vaccines), are heroes and should be recognised as such. Lets give a big thank you as well to the human Guinea pigs, who have lit a long needed flame, to the flame of hope. What a wonderful way of seeing in the New Year and sticking two fingers up to the old, rotten one. Let's raise a toast this NYE in their collective honour! " I dare say there will be recognition at some stage in the new year to all of those involved

What makes you think that ?" because it does not require being kept at a very low temperature,im sure the majority of care homes have someone who can administer injections and they can all be monitored 15 minutes after if that is the case as they aren't going anywhere.If not it should be quiet easy for someone who is capable to go into care homes and give quiete a lot of people the jab in a very short time.This vaccine is a game changer as regards how quickly you can vaccinate a lot of vunerable people in a short time.
"Ivermectic kills the Covid 19 virus - virtually a 100% success rate when used on patients. Hydroxychloroquine and Zinc with Azithromycin work too, if taken early. ( see The Zelenko Protocol). Safe, tried and tested drugs of long standing 'repurposed'. These are findings of clinicians experienced in the field, not politicians or pharma companies selling new drugs. So I'll pass on the vaccine thanks. Sorry to say this, but many, many people who could have been saved have died unnecessarily, while millions of jobs and businesses have been adversely affected. This scandal will emerge in due course. It's not done the swinging scene much good either! " Yes Ivermectin is a proven treatment and cure for covid but this is not about saving lives. The ivermectin drug is dismissed for a politicised vaccine that will make billions of profits.

Here are Prof Bell's comments in full, from August (a long time ago in our understanding of Covid and our knowledge of whether vaccines would be available) https://www.itv.com/news/2020-08-20/second-wave-of-coronavirus-and-really-bumpy-winter-ahead-warns-top-academic Sterilised in a microbiological sense means free of micro-organisms, so his words refer to lack of viral particles, not sterile in the sense of being unable to procreate. Today, the Joint Vaccination Committee agreed pregnant and breastfeeding women could be vaccinated.

" Indeed. Whilst it is good news, it is noticeable that the Government and the media don't want to talk about the arithmetic. The Govt. have paid for 100,000,000 doses - two for each of 50,000,000 people. That's roughly 75% of the UK population - so, it'll be enough. However, O-AZ say they can manufacture 1,000,000 doses per week. So, unless they outsource to India, or wherever; that's a year and 11 months to get them all made. The NHS, even with the help of the care sector and the armed forces cannot inoculate anywhere near 1,000,000 people per week. So, good news? Definitely. Back to "normality" by next spring? That's a lot more debatable.

That's a lot more debatable." It's been rolling off the production lines for months, and being placed in storage until approval. Obviously a bold strategy, because it might not have worked or been approved. They've already manufactured hundreds of thousands of doses before the approval. Good news indeed

"Distribution is next issue and failing to tell those on ground...public exspect from 4th jan. Many gps not ready. Had no info and no guidelines.. well that was today as I left work.. I certainly wont be vaccinating from monday sadly " It would seem ours are expecting something (they put out a video recording yesterday saying "vaccine programme imminent) and they're throwing everything at it. I don't think we had the technology to roll out the Pfizer one, unfortunately, so Oxford will do nicely. My Dad got little notice of his Pfizer jab on 21/12 (I think call on the Friday for Monday appointment).

It needs to be done like the testing walk in centres with a 15 min post jan wait ....

"Distribution is next issue and failing to tell those on ground...public exspect from 4th jan. Many gps not ready. Had no info and no guidelines.. well that was today as I left work.. It definitely isn't at the moment it's happening at large health hubs like health centres.

Those would all make sense to me.

It depends on the surgery, how big, whether there's space for the 15min post jab wait etc, but yes, large venues are being lined up but they need people to staff it all. SJA are recruiting 30,000 volunteers to do it.

My Friends mother had to travel about 8 miles but she lives in rural Cornwall.

Mine is Going to be doing it and has been doing the Pfizer one but again its a local hub. My doctor surgery is massive with about 20 doctors!
Indeed. Whilst it is good news, it is noticeable that the Government and the media don't want to talk about the arithmetic. Even so, that's not going to get the job done by Easter, unless they take other measures too. Already, the four UK CMOs are saying "one jab now, your second one in 12 weeks". That was something Tony Blair was saying a fortnight ago - and the media is, now, conveniently ignoring the fact they gave him the air time to say it. Understandably, since he's not a medical man, he was ignored. Now, he's being agreed with - we're told - for sound medical reasons. Did he really know something our top scientists and doctors didn't? What changed their minds? It seems obvious that this is more a political move, to try and hit a very difficult target. Obviously, I hope it works - but it's corner-cutting; something rightly avoided in the development and testing of the vaccines available. So, if it doesn't work, or things aren't "back to normal" by Easter, expect Matt Hancock, Boris and the Daily Mail to blame the scientists and doctors.

"Ah the Hunger Games Society plan working well, take away our Freedom but you only get it back when you have had the jab, see still no vaccine to prevent cancer " cancer is very different to corona.
"Yeh...you all know this vaccines been around for ages.covid was first recognised in 1967.its just a tweak in formuls.the reason its took this time is who's paying, how much and litigation. Some easily impressed people in fab but. .. So is it not a good thing to get many people immunised?" Not to me.im not many people.thet can do what they like. It wont make any difference in the tier lockdown system in 2021.
