I heard about this on the news maybe a week ago. In case you're unaware it's when you can get a test to see if you're asymptomatic. It's a good way to stop the spread and has been done in other countries, China being one.
So.....I thought I'd see if I could get a test, googling it just came up with 'get a test if you have symptoms', and the usual stuff.
Has anyone in any area heard if their local area are doing it?
Apologies if someone has asked already. |

It depends where you are, some areas are now testing asymptomatic individuals. For example the 7 worst boroughs in London, all secondary school children and their families can go for a test without showing symptoms. They are trying to ascertain how bad the situation is in schools and whether it is one of the causes of the spread of the new variant, with or without symptoms |

Was available in Lancashire until mid October when there was a shortage of the testing kits that were being used and the plug was pulled. Lancashire are going to be doing mass testing from next week once all staff are trained by the MOD, there’s plenty of other testing available but are run by private companies (Boots & Sodexo) mainly |

Thanks for the replies.
I know my children's school are testing them when they get back if they've been in contact with someone testing positive. But that's not the same thing.
There's nothing for people without symptoms in Northampton atm. Perhaps they're rolling it out to worse areas than ours first. |

I think your last paragraph may be the case.
We have been warned when the kids return to school (secondary) they will be all tested in their first week, with parents consent |

I think that’s the idea as the numbers in secondary schools, with the new variant, seem to be growing. I suppose the more they test the better understanding they will have of its effects. |

The test centres started testing front line workers and now are testing people who are booked in for surgery.
Not sure when the general public will be able to get tested but vaccines are going to start in January. |

Yes they have been doing it in my area for the past week and it’s been a shambles only a few hundred tested a day people in huge numbers turning up for a test, probably more have caught it queuing for a test. |

Lateral flow tests began in Liverpool, my daughter had a few before she was due to travel home, attend appointments, etc.
My local area started them before Christmas. My children and I had two before lockdown began. Really fast results (within 90 mins) that give an indication (not 100% accurate) of infection. It brought rates down considerably in Liverpool and here by identifying the asymptomatic. |

Thanks. Not sure if I should be worried or proud that I didn't gag when I stabbed my tonsils!! |

"Not gonna lie, I'd get paranoid about going. I'd worry that I'd pick something up on the way there, whilst there or home from there.
I'm a hermit and happy to stay that way for the foreseeable. "
I know what you mean. It was like walking into the most sterile environment I've ever been in. There was only a few others there to. I work in a shop so mix with quite a lot of people. I might go weekly, it's a relief to know I haven't got it x |
