Virus mutation....
Jump to: Newest in thread
So a new variation has been identified in the South East of England that may account for the increased spread but there's hope that its no more deadly and will still respond to the vaccine, fingers crossed! |

Yes, that seems to be a reason that is been muted for the rise infections in the South East and London.
I think there maybe some groundage in close schools back down has the new mutation has children seem to be infected and do not show signs of the infection.

Then you have the problem of childcare for all the kids.
The school I work in has done an excellent job of isolating cases, just ten since September... In a London secondary school of 1200 kids. But some aren't taking it as seriously. |

Vaccine roll out = potential deterioration in the health of the populas.
Reasons are going to need to be given for that deterioration should that circumstance unfold, which it inevitably will because the gov't arent going to let up, are they ? They will publicise a new spike in cases, "the third wave", to extend their lockdowns indefinitely, and just like the seeding of people getting together over xmas is going to be reported as leading to a rise in cases and potential further lockdowns, now there is "a mutation" whcih will undoubtedly be reported as having been spread over the festive period by unknowing "asystomatic" carriers who met with each other and harboured the spread the spread, and of course all now requiring an increased effort to get a vaccine into everyone.
Watch this space as the plot unfolds I guess... |

And the solution being to take a vaccine which also has been reported to do nothing to stop transmission? (See reports which state that vaccine will not stop the vaccinated from spreading virus to others.. only stop the vaccinated person developing an infection themselves) |

Better not to rely on 'reports', just full scientific evidence, which is comprehensive and not tailored by media bias.
The 3 current Western vaccines that have reported seem to reduce the potential of vaccine infections and severity. This may reduce viral load that people have, thus reducing the potential of others to acquire sufficient viral leads to get infected too.
As time passes, further trials occur, we'll potentially have other vaccines too and will have much greater depths of evidence to understand how it's working. Improved medical treatments also can reduce the impact of ut on our society |

I was stating this a weeks ago and funny enough two in this thread tried to laugh me out saying what was I talking about, I can only assume because they assumed wrongly the vaccine prevented those who had it from spreading it. Problem is they didn't understand that it rests happily in the nasal passage where it is transmitted. It doesn't need to stay there long to be transmitted on to others.
Something to consider too. If the vaccine protects for only 3-4 months and the roll out is currently accepted to take at least year and mutations happen, do people really think they're going to be able to carry on without masks and other restrictions in 2021? |

where do you get the information saying that it only protects for 3 or 4 months?
It seems an impossible task to be able to vaccinate people three times a year, especially if they need to two injections each time over a couple of weeks.
I hadn't heard, as yet, that they know how long it would keep people from developing the full blown virus for only a few months |

Ok you had me at 'full scientific evidence'.
Tell me, where can i find that?
I mean, as a scientist, i discovered pretty early on that there is no such thing. Only interpretations of a data set which you might be able to relate to interpretations of other related data sets. And so on. You can get a body of evidence. But rarely, full scientific evidence.
But never mind me...perhaps my rose tinted spectacles got damaged in the lab. |

Latest Sciencenews article suggests possibily up to six months, however since there have been several cases of individuals being reinfected with the coronavirus after recovering this may not be the case.
So it raised the question in my mind that if the roll out takes longer etc etc.
I just get the feeling many people think they can suddenly go back to normal. |

Data is just that... It's how it's applied and what context are they being applied in. The information can then be quite differing. |

Up in the dirty North many fabbers would have you believe the earlier spread and peaks were all down to the "covidiots" and which ever segment of society was in vogue to blame insert university students, school children, anti vaxxers. If they hadn't been so selfish lockdown wouldn't have needed to happen right?
Now the spread is happening at alarming pace down in the South its clearly just covids fault for mutating.
Nothing to do with thousands upon thousands of people crammed together in Oxford Street and similar with a distinct lack of masks right? Some of the pictures from London recently look about as safe as a Trump Rally but still thats not to blame right?

I agree with KJ
I’m not a scientist but I think it’s to do with the crowds. Of course it’s easier to spread when there are more people within close proximity.
Just my opinion so don’t tear me a new one for having one. |

I completely understand your anger, but unfortunately if you look at this type of poster they always make an extreme contribution but never hang around to explain their point of view. They are usually immature and spineless. So tempting as it is to try and debate with them, it's generally pointless as they've usually found something else to occupy their 20 second attention span. |

'Ramped up' ? By who - you ? "
By the government. They're only at the beginning, 70 of over 1000 hospitals and 100 of nearly 7000 GP surgeries are administering vaccines. |

I am fully aware. I didn't include the acquaintance who died in a car accident and who tested positive in the hospital that tried to save him... And yes he is included in the figures "deaths with covid"
I'm aware of how the people who were part of my life died, I'm aware of the long covid friend suffering. It's not a scam, it's very real. And the tragedy is that it's quite easy to minimise spread. Just follow the fucking rules. |

"All very worrying"
Not really, when you think there could be a slightly different strain in each continent or country.
We aren't stopping people travelling, so one or two of them might bring something new back. Add to that you have Dover and the channel tunnel, in the south east and that has to have a small contributing factor to the new strain getting here. |

It’s definitely worrying times isn’t it? I guess we just need to do what the scientists say and put our heads down and plough through this mess until we are on the other side!
Hopefully by the start of summer, normal life can resume but to be honest I’m bricking it over this Christmas relaxation rules and a January lockdown...I fear things will get worse before they get better!

There are 15 variations to the virus first detected in Wuhan. There has been nothing to confirm that we need to be more concerned with this variant. It's perfectly feasible that this variant just happens to be spreading more in South East. The same thing happened in Scotland with the Spanish variant in the summer / early autumn. |

A virus often mutates... from what I understand a successful virus transmits easily and quickly but doesnt do serious harm to the host.... I'm hoping that this new virus is less problematic due to it mutating to spread faster .... remember the common cold another corona virus.. once about wiped out indigenous people in countries not used to it x |

I don't always agree with you but on this your spot on buddy.
Yes there's a variant the data for that's clear and yes its now spreading in the south especially Tier 2 areas much like it did previously in the North. That's what the virus does.
The whole Londons were been more careful when the North was spiking before was just bollocks. The virus comes in waves in different areas as the transmissions spreads.
It's a convenient excuse for the goverment to hide behind for putting London into Tier 3.
