what is likely to happen?
I would expect we will go into tiers depending on the severity of the virus in different areas.
I do hope that even if as it will be (as I expect socially distanced), that restaurants and pubs can reopen as it is terribly hard on them at the moment, and most places seemed to have put some very strict rules in place for their clients, to keep them safe before lockdown.
I wonder if there will still be a 10 p.m. curfew?
I wonder also when these decisions are likely to be made.
Places will have to prepare one way or another. |

There has been news on this in the last few hours.
They are expected to bring in a tougher teir system.
The 10pm curfew will remain, but be altered so that last orders will be at 10, but you will have an extra hour to finish (I guess thats to stop everyone kicking out at the same time).
There is also expected to be a relaxation of the rules for meeting families over Christmas.
Hopefully it's all going to be detailed on Monday.

They had discussed meeting this week but they, in my opinion, may not confirm every detail.
It ought to depend on the results of the lockdown, which will still be somewhat unknown.
They said at the start to expect Tiers back and brief details today state they will be but will be tougher.
We have to be careful that we don't just ease things, have Christmas and get it to be as bad as it was when winter fully comes in January. |

We will find out this week, Parliament has to vote on it
Pubs to 10pm plus an hour to drink up
2/3 households mix for a few days at Xmas
Cue a rise in cases mid Jan to force another lockdown. Same all over Europe |

I'll be surprised if the pubs open. |

The pubs will open and the times will be at least 11pm. There has been lots of 'expert' chat the world over agreeing that closing them - and similar - early resulted in 'unintended consequences' of people going to other people homes instead. If anyone thinks that keeping them closed over Christmas will stop people meeting they are suffering from a serious delusion of un-reality. It really is better to get a grip of the problem instead of pretending there isn't one.

Yes its pointless closing the pubs early anymore, people will do whatever they want to do now. They will socialise whether that's in a pub or a home which means we won't have a grip on this until April. |

That is probably the main reason there is talk of allowing a 5 day relaxation of the current "rules" over the festive period. As if they didn't, people would just carry on in their own merry way & meet up over Christmas like normal anyway! I do think this will be a disaster either way as it is going to be so easy to spread the virus with family get togethers through all generations at this time! |

You can just smell a rat .. get ready for another lock down once Xmas is out the way ... the confusion is making ppl think, fuck it.. feel for small businesses whilst the big chains can still sell what they want whilst the independent has to close ... January behind closed doors .. while the breeding grounds are allowed to open ... |

I don’t see what’s confusing. The R number goes much above 1 and we are on lockdown. It goes below one and we come out. It’s really as simple as that and I can’t believe that adults can’t make sense of that in their heads. Sadly the virus isn’t a switch you just flick on and off, and apart from staying away from people, there’s little else that’s effective for a virus without a cure.
Too many people focus on what’s “inconvenient for them” instead of staying focussed on “what’s better for at-risk others”.

I don’t mind inconveniences, it’s the utter confusion of the rules ... can’t see yr family, but the kids can go school and mix with a 100 different family’s then come home and deliver a special virus ... u can go to work mingle with 250 work mates, who u don’t know nothing about but u can’t go to the pub with yr close friends ... there’s just two examples of the utter fiasco .... I know the virus is there and here, but we are 700000 deaths up on this time last year but I think the covid related figure is 50000 .. so where have 20000 ppl gone .... hope they aren’t in a pit in the middle of nowhere !!! |

Work create revenue and keeps the economy moving. For which kids need to be in school.
Seeing friends doesn’t keep the economy moving.
It’s damage limitation

I get about the economy cuz some fucker is going to pay for all this .. oh us.. which I don’t mind .. but just make the rules simple as poss ... confusion only creates contempt... I’m still puzzled where 20000 ppl have gone .. |

Do you really think there isn't ? Or a backlash from the population ? There hasn't been a more uncertain time as we have right now. I'm not a conspiracy nut , but if you honestly think things will just go back to normal then you might be surprised. |

The government know people will ignore rules at Xmas so in order to save face they relax the rules . |

Hardly the only tool in the shed.
A quick bit of research on the Barrington declaration will give you one example. There's other options available, even SAGE advised that national lockdowns were not the way forward, but whitty, vallance and Boris disagreed. Bojos cabinet were against national lockdowns and sought alternative strategies, but this idiot is too stuck up his own arse to even consider another way. |

So apart from keeping people apart, while a vaccine is developed, what’s your plan then? |

The only tool this government use I should have said ..the government is given stick if it doesn't lockdown too don't forget .
It's clearly a very political subject now . |

Those confusing rule appear to be bringing down the transmissions.
Kids are still going to school and mingling but transmissions are decreasing. Maybe the schools aren't the problem many had us believe.
Whilst you might be mingling with 250 colleagues, the vast majority are people at work but following social distancing, working from home, furloughed, unemployed or retired. If everyone is mixing with family and friends in households or in the pubs they increase the transmission.
If a kid catches covid at school they might being it home but then there will be no further transmission to other household from that transmission.

I've already given you one example, and with a bit of proper research you can easily find others.
Look up Dr Karol Sikora, Prof Carl Heneghan, prof Suntra Gupta, prof Jay Battacharya, these will give you you plenty of alternatives and food for thought. |

One small flaw in your logic there, many kids are on school buses and transmitting for days before symptoms. Two of my children leave this house of 5 in the morning, get on a bus with 35 other kids, then go into a school with nearly 2000 in it. Their school alone has reported 6 cases in the last 8 days. Not all those kids are on the same bus so potentially thats around 4 buses with 35 per bus at risk, without considering the spread within a household.
The government knows full well that schools and universities are a hive for spreading viruses, but aren't paying it any attention. Local papers and bulletins are awash with schools reporting new cases, but msm aren't reporting it. |

I don’t know about Scotland but in England I presume that people think that it was down to education due to the fact that pubs reopened in July and the increase in cases didn’t occur until September after the return to university and schools. |

All of this is about minimising contact to as small a level as possible without affecting everything and everyone.
It requires a judgement as to what’s more important - schools/education, the hospitality industry, retail etc. And having to take decisions - often not popular - to trade off contacts in one setting against another.

2000 kids in a school environment as opposed to 200 in wetherspoons ?
I'd suggest that whilst the judgement scenario is credible, its poor to use kids as a petri dish for a theory. |

2000 kids with measures in place for hand washing, mask wearing, bubbles etc, a known low risk of long term health impacts and the potential loss of their careers and plans
Versus 200 people drinking in a pub with limited supervision of distancing, mask wearing plus going off to the next pub when they fancy it - and especially in a Wetherspoons, crowding on the five mile wall to the toilets. |

6 cases in 8 days from my sons school, 18 cases from a neighbouring school, 3 cases in a nearby primary school, would all suggest that the measures in place are clearly not working.
The pubs and restaurants that have spent a small fortune making their places covid compliant suffer even more.
Boris announced today that up to 4000 may attend outdoor sports meetings, gyms can reopen, but you still can't get a pint unless you are having a 'substantial meal' ?
So it seems that once again the hospitality sector is being punished for keeping schools open.
