"If you could have let’s say restrictions eased for the 10 days covering Xmas and new year’s... but it then meant a full January lockdown
Would you take it?"
The only restriction currently in place in Wales that bothers me is not being able to go to watch live sport. Rest of my life is pretty much as it used to be i.e the gym is open, pubs open (I'm a day/evening drinker so 10pm stop tap is no bother) can mix with another household which is enough for me as I am not one for mingling and I don't like travelling outside of Wales anyway. I suppose its a bit different in England at the moment though. |

I wouldn't care to be honest, we keep ourselves safe and just because the law doesn't forbid going to the pub or having 20 round for Christmas dinner we won't be. |

What's a full lockdown?
I don't think we have had one so far...
Luckily the only thing that bothers me about the current restrictions is not being able to meet up with a friend indoors but it's for the greater good. |

Neither would I. January is the most depressing month of the year at the best of times for a lot of people.
I can't imagine January in a lockdown |

People have already suggested that they'll ignore any restrictions for Christmas, so we may have that reality anyway |

It's a bit we wish you a merry Xmas and a tragic new year really.
No we would just me,K and the baby in our own home this year. Regardless of what happens.
I already missed my sons birth isolating last week due to covid outbreaks at work. Now its spread to more colleagues one of whoms husband is fighting hard in hospital atm.
We had a manager who pushed our department to work face to face and be open since June (when most other departments worked from home since march. 2 days doesn't go by without another colleague testing positive st the moment. It's only now when people are dropping like flies is he starting to take some notice.
Theres nothing worse than a head of department boss who is a covid denier and hates his home life.

No. People would go berserk in that period - when the virus will of course be taking time off - and a January lockdown would be merely getting us back to where we are now, if that.
We’ve never had anything like a real lockdown anyway. Much better would be proper enforcement of masks, and people who can’t/won’t wear them (sorry that’s tough but the virus doesn’t make exceptions) should self-isolate for the good of all. |

We'd choose no easing of restrictions for xmas, and instead look to have a big family get-together post-vaccine. |

No, I think we have to fight this head on so current rules must stand and should only be removed when safe to do so. It's been a pretty shitty for many so another few weeks isn't really going to make much difference. However, rekax everything niw andvthen lockdown again in January would, imo, cause more harm with regards to mental health than good. |

This lockdown we have now, with schools open, so no change to our daily lives.... For 10 days?
If we can fly out during those 10 days yes, we personally would. |

Yes definitely!!
My 12 year old is currently in a bubble of over 100 children at school and my 10 year old is in one of 21, that means between them my children are currently mixing with 120 households, but I aren't allowed round my mums?? Bizarre |

Nope.
The virus cares nothing about Xmas.
Actually, that is a lie.
It cares very much about social gatherings, and people letting their hair down.
In fact the virus is a real party animal.
It's the life and soul of any lively party.
It's indiscriminate in its affections, and everyone that crosses its path has a chance to get a nice big hug and a Xmas present to remember afterwards.
I'm not going to jeopardise others. This isn't a game to me. The rest of my life has been on hold since March 23rd, so a few days not in the company of others eating turkey and wearing a poorly-fitting xmas cracker hat isn't going to break my heart.
What would break my heart is getting the virus and passing it on to my missus and killing her or any of our friends/family.
Brussel's Sprouts & Crepe Paper Hat or a lifetime of regret by causing someone else harm/death ?
Hard Pass for us.

Dnt care about Christmas. It should be no different. If we cant stick to the rules leading up to Christmas whats the point. We arent children we know what we should be doing. Its not a carrot and stick situation its life or death simple. So no I dnt want to be locked down again in January. Ive spent too long alone as it is.

Tbh how many times di we all say all of this for just one day?
I think we can live without it for this year as too many have sacrificed too much just to have that day or 5 when it could very possibly lead to thousands of excess deaths for having it.
And when we have stopped other religions celebrating their festivals,it will lead to more division.
Vaccine just around the corner...now is not the time to throw the towel in... |

Christmas isn't a celebration for families to pig out on Xmas food and drink. Spend hundreds of pounds on spoilt kids who already have too much. Maybe we should get back to the roots of Christmas and why we celebrate it. We have destroyed our world with over privileged spoilt kids and adults who have no thought for anyone but themselves . Its not the governments fault we are in this situation its our own selfish greedy selves. All we had to do was stay indoors. Protect our families but no we couldn't do that. So Christmas should not be allowed as punishment for all these selfish morons who dnt give a toss.
Merry COVID EVERYONE.

I dont really get the concept of rule changing
NOTHING HAS OR WILL CHANGE
Do not go near any one
Wash hands immediately after touching anything
Any other actions will cause extra death and or extra misery for a significant minority
Playing with our liberties to pretend to macro manage is just smoke and mirrors
So I could also phrase the OP
Would you be prepared to actively contribute to the deaths and suffering of a few thousand in order to have a normalish xmas
Do you realise that ANY close interaction at all with an older relative WILL increase statistically the number of deaths we need to endure
And is it right to risk grannies life even though she wants to

Everything you said is perfectly valid and hard to disagree with. It makes no sense at all to celebrate Christmas from a public health perspective but from a business perspective, Christmas is a necessity.
Personally I think you need some serious self evaluating if you insist on spending a day with people you probably don't see all year at a time like this. |

I have kids and grandkids i havnt seen for months but they would like their grandmother and mother to stay alive so are abiding by the rules. There are no excuses we are all responsible adults supposedly. Had we done as we should have it would not have come to this. I miss my family dearly. |

We took part an experiment a few days ago.
My Husbands Niece (16) lives in Germany and is resident in a Boarding School. They decided to approach all the Parents and Pupils and ask if the School could lockdown right up until Christmas. Everybody agreed it was a good idea. Second Phase is that now they are asking about lockdown right through Christmas too.
In order to do this they asked every parent to hook up to Zoom and spend a whole day online with their children wherever they were in the school. Just meant phones allowed in every activity etc. The school bought phone-s_ands for the pupils.
The upshot is that we logged-on with her at 10am and logged-off just before midnight. Most of the time it was like having her in the same room with us (and her friends too).
Of course this isn't possible for everyone - but it is possible for many.
Just a thought. Extraordinary times = Extraordinary Solutions.
The Parents and Pupils have voted for a 'Lockdown Christmas'
