It's about preventing the spread.
Reduce the spread, reduce the amount of deaths by covid.
So no answer then ..."
I'm sure you are capable of using Google to determine an estimation of the number of deaths and the ages of those that have died due to covid.
I'm not a medical expert in any form, im just commenting on the OP original post.
What's your answer to the OP's original post? |

I think schools should be closed, i think lockdown2 should go on for longer. I think more shops should close for now, some non essential shops seem to be open still. |

Almost 3000 people unfortunately died of covid last week
It's sad that you can be so nonchalant about that, really sad |

This was the whole point doing it over the half term & giving the kids an extra week off. |

Uni should have become 100% online for this year at least. |

"How many deaths though and what ages?"
Is death the only consideration?
The way I see it, the more people who have it, the more will it be passed on to. Then there is the question of long-term medical issues, currently the extent of this is still unknown.
At the moment, it appears as though secondary school aged kids are the highest group of infections.

A lot of them... Durham for example has been 100 per cent online since start of term.
Students live with other students, socialise with other students and go home to other students. A bunch of 18 and 20 year olds infecting other 18 and 20 year olds as they have not been allowed in lectures or labs and not allowed in pubs and restaurants. I'd be interested to see how many others have been infected this last month by uni students. |

This is what pissis me off because it was a purely political decision by our government not to do it then and instead wait another 3 weeks.

"Bojo self isolating again i hear!
Very convenient "
So the op question was do you think closing schools is the answer?
My answer... I think closing some schools may help and closing others may be of very little help. The decision should be data led. Ideally using something a bit more sophisticated than a 10 year old version of excel. |

The issue of cancelling other important treatments is a whole other issue, the "reason" for cancelling treatments is to reduce the strain on the hospitals, I don't think it's the right choice... although it's again all dictated by finances.

I do think closing schools, or reducing the numbers in attendance on any given day, would help.
Statistics show that education establishments are the biggest spreaders of Covid.
We all know how good children are at spreading germs and how bad they tend to be at hygiene and social distancing. |

You won't see results by age group or percentage in the mainstream news, they would rather push the cases arguments though, instead of deaths ... sounds more dramatic that way |
