So we got back from France yesterday, driving over there you must have a completed permit to allow you to travel, the roads were virtually empty.
Arrived Folkestone yesterday afternoon..
U.K. roads were noticeably very busy!!!
I don’t think we are taking any notice of “essential travel only”!! |

People aren't. My Parter works for the highways agency and he says they have noticed no difference.
Last lockdown I got stopped driving around on my volunteering duties at least once a week. And the roads were basically empty after 7pm.... not this time |

Was silent here last time, nothing seems to have changed this time but then people still have to get the kids to school and a lot of people are still at work, and given the diy shops and drive through are all still open why would people stay at home? Also able to get out for the day without the kids. It really doesn't feel like a lockdown in all honesty. |

If you have an accident or get stopped and the police have any suspicion the journey was not for essential travel you will end up with a £200 fine and your insurance will be invalid so I have heard. |

I dont see the relevance. All you who are noticing the roads being busy are obviously out there as well. People in their cars are no threat to anyone and quite possibly have more important reasons for being there than you do. |

I do agree just being in the car isn’t a threat to anyone. But it’s curious how busy it is, FOMO for wherever people were going on Sunday. |

I was happily lying in bed Sunday morning. I always wonder where people are rushing about to so urgently. |

Noticeably quieter in the evenings but no real difference during the day. As it's ok to travel to exercise etc this time together with the larger number of sectors able to open, there will be more traffic. |

Sounds unlikely unless you are undertaking a business journey and that risk is not covered. |

What I had heard was the police if stopped or involved in a accident can ask your reason for the journey, if they have any suspicion to think you are lying it’s a £200 on the spot fine that can be argued in court! Bit harsh and I am not sure if they are enforcing it actively. |

They have to try every which way to put the willies up people and ensure compliance. Like threatning naughty kids with turning off wifi, the electricity, burning the house down if they dont behave |

Indeed. Car insurers will find any excuse not to cough up, that's what I'm taking away. |

We should be complying
Non essential travel means exactly that.
If connected to a business travel is allowed , otherwise we are in lockdown which means stay at home ... |

I'm sure it varies from insurer to insurer, hence the might. All I know is that insurers like any opportunity to NOT pay out, like other insurance lenders |

Why would they do that ? I think the clues in the NON ESSENTIAL part of stay at home . If you use your vehicle outside that perimeter and dont have a reasonable excuse then i agree that you should be fined. |

I just asked my insurer outright about insurance for essential Vs non essential journeys and they confirm no changes to the policy.
My insurer is a specialist insurer for adapted vehicles, wheelchairs, mobility scooters etc. for disabled people, not a mainstream insurer not that this may make any difference at all. |

Which is essential of course ...if people are doing as they should be during lockdown this really isnt relevant to them. Its those who are breaking the rules.Hopefully the minority . |

We're WFH, so it's nursery and back. I might go and see my Dad (bubble) but not sure if I will yet. This weekend, I did the supermarket shopping by wheelchair - all carted back on the chair (back/footplate/dangling from my walking stick). I had my 3yo travelling on my knee......... |

You and others like you have my full sympathy. To me it's a lockdown in name only. In our local town they still hold the market? How can they do that when the shops in the High Street have to close.
I hope you get through it ok. |

i think that alot of people are getting fed up of lockdown now, and just ignoring it in the main.
i am following the rules, but im yet to be convinced lockdown does alot other than put people out of work.
i know the arguments for lockdown, but not sure its the right answer |

I go to work (key worker), exercise by cycling to work, get home and stay in. Shopping once a week, really missing my family and football. Agree that the roads seem to be the same, no noticeable decrease in traffic. All we can hope for is that instructions are followed |

Define a proper criminal because as far as I am concerned anybody that breaks a law is commiting a crime. Would you consider them a criminal if that person had the virus and spread it and killed it to someone you loved because they didn't want to stick to the rules? |

Police were stopping cars in the village yesterday evening.
Problem is, it must be hard for them to police, as the loonies in charge have instigated a crap version of lockdown. They have made it so unfair for so many busineeses, I doubt any judge could decide in the crowns favour. |

Last time there was noticeably more cars parked up at home all day every day, outside London most public transport is useless to travel to and from most places of work especially if working shifts so cars are needed and used. Because this time folks have been encouraged to keep working and know they need to in order for their companies to survive. Same as the school run loads as usual parked in a morning and afternoon. |
