Its just we seem to be getting told what we can and cant do
And coz the government's and media say how we should live we must follow
My questions is how come now the same government back benchers dont agree with lockdown
How come some scientists dont agree
Why do we blame each other for not following the rule
Even if we dont agree
Last thing if the county was closed for month first time and no one was moving about why was death daily rate so high |

1. Covid is a new illness, so doctors didn't fully understand the disease process and how best to treat it. Survival rates are now much better.
2. If people stopped whinging about their civil rights, and started thinking more about their civil responsibilities, wouldn't things be so much better? We wouldn't be in a second lockdown thanks to the thousands of selfish gits thinking only about themselves. |

Possibly because you can be asymptomatic for 10 to 14 days and then you don’t die immediately. It’s not really that hard to work out that the lockdown was to slow the spread as the damage had already been done as it has now. |

The government passes laws. That's what it does and what it's always done. Telling people what they can and can't do.
People in governments disagree, it's a majority rules system to pass laws.

Well there is no jab for this coronavirus for a start. And this coronavirus is so deadly because asymptomatic people can pass it on to people who have underlying problems that are exacerbated by the virus. Yeah I agree that at some point we will have to find a way to live with it, but lockdowns do help. If we'd all followed New Zealand's example at the start of this we would all be back to normal. |

We wouldn't. New Zealand is a totally different country with very different (and favourable) circumstances and conditions.
It's no coincidence that other European countries like Greece, Italy, France and Germany are experiencing similar spikes to the UK despite wide adherence to Covid control measures.
It's time we stopped blaming and scapegoating. |

Because exactly the same as last time, the damage, the infections have already happened. We will see 8 weeks of infections, decline, death, secondary infections, decline, death... it’s the way this virus works. |

Perhaps the OP who posted he thread would like to tell everyone what she would do if she was burgled, had her car nicked or been mugged. Needed hospital treatment. Then the dictatorship state no doubt be called to help. Don't think this country is China or north Korea.
We still live in one of the freest places on the planet. Everyone plays their bit and it has at least a chance of getting back to some normality. |

Sure. But it is as it's always been. Have a look into Parliamentary supremacy. It's the underlying basis of the British Constitution. If they get the votes, they can do what they like.
It's a 300 year old principle. It's not new.
The fact that people are kicking off about parliamentary power now is in equal parts amusing and sad.
One can be on the side of public health measures and also worry about government abuse of power. |

5 friends have landed in london airports. All strictly adhere to rules on flights. All mention several hours of bedlam at the airports. No social distancing no nothing. So I'm thinking it doesn't matter what we do for lockdown the govt is actually going for herd immunity and lockdown is just trying not to allows cases to spike so NHS can handle it?

We live in a parliamentary democracy, we vote every five years or so for a government and they then make decisions on our behalf. If you don’t like the way this government is doing things then you can vote for the other main party in about four years.
I get that you don’t agree with everything the government is doing but can I suggest you put your big girl pants on behave like a grown up. |

I don't agree with what the government is doing at this point (public health measures yes, the way they're doing it no). The jump from "I think they're doing it wrong" to "they're acting illegitimately" is like something out of The Matrix. |

MPs and scientists may be under house arrest. Some of them. They may be threatened with loss of pension or worse. A coup may have taken place. Dictators
rule by decree.

We do have to learn with it. I am very disappointed in our education system though, it has clearly failed to teach people like yourself basic concepts like exponential growth. Without intervention this virus would rapidly put us in a position were we have 2 patients fighting for every critical care bed that the NHS can provide. |

As much as I don't trust this government. Lockdowns do achieve their purpose, which is to slow the infection rate. |

Everyone of voting age and who is registered gets the chance to keep or reject the incumbent government every maximum 5 years.
Not a perfect system but it is democratic. |

I have no doubt if op went to live in Russia, North Korea, China, Bhutan, Saudi Arabia, Syria.. Any of the countries who live under a genuine dictatorship that many of our freedoms would be better appreciated.
That's not to say that we have absolutely had some freedoms eroded, especially around technology, data and personal information... But to suggest we are in a dictatorship because we are trying to manage our way through a global pandemic and because many aren't able to do the right thing, we require legislation.
Not being able to go to a pub or a gym for a few months, or being asked to wear a face mask when close to people does not constitute a dictatorship. |

There may be laws that you disagree with but you can campaign to change them. The greater good is most important during a crisis. If you remember a world war, you will remember restrictions that you had to comply with. If you work, you will also have conditions imposed on you by law and your employer - it may be tougher than when you were at school but you will be rewarded, giving you other freedoms and possibilities.
You're in a month long lockdown in England but are still able to do many things. You won't be subject to police state measures if you abide by the sensible precautions and laws in place, to keep you and others well. Experience has built up which means that approaches are better than earlier. The scientific process may fascinate you, if you research it and discover how things are investigated and improved upon - the Internet is a useful tool to help you to learn, if you invest your time wisely. |

Have you seen people being required to do that? I haven't... All I've seen is people being asked to wash their hands, keep their distance and show some common sense to not spread an air borne virus.
