"I’m not so sure it does.
Devaluing the currency devalues it. "
of course it devalues the pound, if there are more pounds then each one is worth less, simple economics |

It’s not that simple.
They buy government bonds with it and effectively give the government cheap loans. |

Thats exactly how it works. It doesn't devalue the pound at all. |

Nope. If it did then there would be a corresponding dip in the market value of the pound each time they did quantitative easing when often it’s the opposite. |

Is it somebody that wants leverage over us ?"
Its normally pension funds and global financial institutions.
Its easy to make money when you have money. |

What’s next is negative interest rates in March 2021. We will be charged to hold onto capital to force investment |

This is nothing new. It’s how national economies are supposed to work, and is only seen as negative by people who think national economies are analogous to household budgets, ie most people and intentionally misleading politicians / media.
It’s only ever a problem if the government spending the money are incompetent - which is the unfortunate situation we are in. |

Very few countries won’t be doing the same though, so where does it matter?

You don't want the government to raise funds to deal with the impact of the virus?
Remember this is the Virus forum area, not Politics, etc
We are supporting the economy, virus testing services, vaccine purchases, paying people to isolate when infected, supporting employees at home due to lockdown business closures etc |

And in helping some, who deserve it, they have also as you say devalued the currency and anyone who saves ! savings....and apparently handed out lots of money without checking properly... and also - presumably it would have been MUCH cheaper , if they had been prepared first time to deal with it properly!
I did hear somewhere that one of the reasons the UK was hit badly as was the US , is that we have larger unlying health problems...diabetes than some others . Stay safe every one ! |

The pound has value..!?? Maybe it did 30 or 40 years ago but not anymore, when this is all over we really are going to regret not having the euro as a currency, the UK manufacturers nothing so I have no idea how the pound is worth anything in the first place. |

It tends to only devalue when other currencies arent printing money also, most countries are printing money, inflation happens when too much money is chasing to few goods, all governments will need inflation to reduce the relative value of the debt. We are in a huge hole in economic turns as is most of the world |
