A gift to the supermarket mega stores

Another lock down see the closure of non-essential stores (granted online click and collect allowed). Yet the giant supermarkets can continue to sell non-essential items to the browsing public. Not saying this is wrong. Its nonsensical and frustrating to me the Welsh approach. But what effect will the have on high Street shops (especially smaller and independent) that specialise in non-essential items such as toys. They are out of the game on the critical run up to Christmas as the supermarkets devour a lot of their Christmas trade. They may have already invested in huge amounts of Christmas stock they cant sell. Remember alot of people don't do online shopping or (for many reasons) can only pay in cash. Could this be a huge blow for the high Street and a huge boost to the rise in power of the main supermarket brands and their mega stores?

Nobody is forcing people to buy stuff, it's optional.

Central

Bigger stores and Internet companies who pay little tax to local authorities are the winners.

If they don’t restrict Amazon, then limiting what is sold in Supermarkets is pointless. At least people get paid above the minimum wage in Supermarkets

I assume you work for a living? How would you feel if whoever you worked for or did jobs for had to make you redundant, not renew your contract, or whatever through no fault of their own?

Capitalism creates jobs so we can be in employment and earn some money. True it creates wealth as well but these are the people that gives us our wealth. Big and small companies.

Without capitalism, no work, no money, no jobs, etc.

True

But when you have unfettered capitalism and let the market run wild..the big sharks eat the little ones.

Surely the market is survival of the fittest?

Of course it is, but it would be a sad place if all there was left was Amazon, Tesco, Primark and Ebay etc.

Small and medium sized business are one of the biggest employers in the UK. A lot of them run their businesses because they enjoy what they sell, make or do. Most of them aren't millionaires but make a living while giving others (their staff) a living as well. They also care more about their staff than large Companies.

If through no fault of their own they dissappear, it would lead to a miserable life for a lot of people.

A lot of small businesses are linking into Amazon / Etsy / notonthrhighstreet to promote and sell their products or doing their own online distribution. It is possible to support the smaller businesses, some unfortunately need to adapt to the changing times so we can do that.

A friend of mine set up her own business in January, one simple product to start with (a hair brush) she used Amazon to distribute it and paid for it to be prompted to page one if someone searched for hair brush, her total supply sold out in four days, so it can work.

I don't disagree but when everything is left to the market that's what happens.

Look at the preponderance of maccies,Starbucks, tesco etc

That is so true we will have far less choice and far fewer jobs if they go. I hope landlords for these companies give them a break they need it.
