I do understand that sometimes things need a little bit of organisation, but why wait till Thursday, why would the statement not be if you can close straight away then do it, I don't really understand waiting the extra days to start lockdown again. |

Because this time we're employing democracy and actually having consensus before we pass laws.... |

And businesses actually need time to close properly - you can't just abandon your shop without perhaps disposing of stock, placing it in storage, putting extra security measures in place because your premises are going to be unstaffed for longer than usual etc. In the last lockdown, which happened very rapidly, we had lots of our high street hairdressers/beauty places broken into and stock such as GHDs, make up and other valuable things taken. I'd imagine with more notice, the same businesses can leave things more secure this time around. Hope our town council doesn't try to save money by turning off the CCTV either |

But it was the same with wearing masks or face coverings. They set a date for several days later. Why. |

Whatever the reason, it has an impact... Manchester’s rates have been doubling every 7 days. We quadrupled our admission rate whilst discussing,, failing to find agreement and then eventually moving to tier three. That will be doubled again by the time we reach Thursday.
There are processes, legal requirements etc but... they do cost us severely.
Remember, those who truly understand the implications of the numbers told us we needed to act immediately on a national level over seven weeks ago.
In mathematical terms that means for every 1 person who would have died at that time, there will now be 127. |

The previous answer actually answers your question, however allow me to pose a few to you.
When the announcement was made about face masks, did you have one?
Did you know where to get one?
Did you have any idea what type of face mask to buy?
Did you know how many you'd need?
Did you know where to buy some?
If your answer to any of these is "no", you know why we were given a few days to sort ourselves out.
Pretty much the same as the answer above which you seemed to understand.

In Gove saying to Andrew Marr there could be an extension he put Boris on the spot and made it look possibly that Boris want being totally upfront with the country on Saturday..
He might say later I had to say that as I think my duty is to warn the public, hence I leaked to the media on Friday etc.
If it was him and it's him positioning himself for if Boris steps down that is..

"Thank you for the replies, that makes sense"
Not of it makes sense this was over months ago. Cases are irrelevant as they are based on a flawed PCR test that can make a piece of cheese prove positive if you run enough amplification cycles. There is NO gold standard test and PCR doesn't measure infection.
Don't believe me? Just check out the Euromomo statistics for the UK for mortality (deaths are the best statistic as they can't be subject to false tests etc)

Thank you, I just think there’s so much personal emotion, smoke-screening and utter bollox on occasions we all just need to step back and get a wee bit of clarity back in our heads.
This pandemic is nobodies fault, it is incredibly difficult for everyone to live with but blaming others or wishing it away with some ridiculous notion etc just takes us further away from finding a solution.

I think you maybe right. The effects of the lockdown will take longer than 4 weeks to filter through properly to the figures. The deaths will probably still be rising by the 2nd december, hope i am wrong. |

I suspect there will be a limited easing over Christmas, possibly just 25th and 26th and that we will be in some form of lockdown well in to January. BJ is hardly consistent in what he says and I see no reason to trust what he's saying about the end of this lock down when you consider that only a couple of days ago he was saying it wouldn't happen. |

Sorry but you are wrong, the majority of covid infections do not involve death.
A more accurate stat to take note of is hospital admissions. They take up hospital beds and reduce the NHS's capability of providing care for all who needs care |

100% correct, if you want the harsh reality more deaths would be a blessing for those juggling with capacity and keeping the system running... “survived” takes plenty more time and space from the system. |

I can't help wondering if a series of 2 week lockdowns every 6 or 8 weeks might have been just as effective and maybe better supported if it had taken place in September ?
Probably to late when it reached an estimated 600000 people infected at one time |

Figures in 4 weeks will be at best close to what they are on Thursday and at worse much higher. No chance of being out in 4 weeks. Maybe small signs of improvement after 6 weeks but imagine what the Christmas shopping chaos would be like if lockdown eased so close to Christmas. Christmas is cancelled. Let’s be honest and just accept it rather than be disappointed later See you all in the Spring |

Short lockdown are an idea. My feeling is that people would just relax their behaviour at the end of any lockdown. It will be interesting to see the result of the welsh lockdown. Will take a few weeks to see the any results. |

"I do understand that sometimes things need a little bit of organisation, but why wait till Thursday, why would the statement not be if you can close straight away then do it, I don't really understand waiting the extra days to start lockdown again.
It has to be put before parliament and voted on all members so that's why Thursday not now.
But then why announce it? Obviously it couldn't be kept "secret" but could it not at least be down played until then to calm the mad "last pub visit" panic? I can see there could be problems with that approach to.. good conspiracy theory fodder I suppose, but maybe better overall still?
They tried to keep it quiet but somebody leaked it and they had to hurry out the announcement.
They heard it through the grapevine. Or was that Sarah vine. "
Isn't it shocking how the Daily Fail are always the first to know these things....... |

"The largest Covid study in the U.K. with over a million participants.
https://youtu.be/q-SwbhDIdxY
Bullshit.
It's some twat in his living room telling us that virus cases aren't surging.
But look at how many books he has, he MUST be right!"
I recognise the Enid blyton book set behind his head. Famous five went to lockdown |

"Him and gove seem to briefing against each other. Gove is already saying it may be more than a month.
Yes, which most people have too I reckon and I would like to think the gang of four did when they met but perhaps they took a majority view to only go with the Dec 2nd date..
Games within games..
Any money on still in lockdown in January... the figures don’t lie and in reality I think our leadership knows this will be the case already. "
I reckon so, perhaps there might be a short window 24-27 Dec then back into it..

Johnson and Gove got into an argument about whether anyone in the UK would be gullible enough to believe that lockdown would be over on 2 December.
Eventually after two hours Johnson said "Of course they are gullible, they voted for me didn't they?"
There was no come back for that slam dunk.
2 December it is even though the same guy told us in May it takes three weeks for the curve to start to flatten. And that's with full lockdown. |

Probably rollocking Hancock for the leak.. you do have to laugh at those who think there is any credibility in there being a global conspiracy. Those within the same government, members with similar political thinking, can’t even agree on a common position |

Why do you think it's Han-crook? It's Gove who's married to a Daily Fail columnist. He leaks over the breakfast table |
