Stiffer penalties for breaking the rules?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Just stating the obvious here really but... I think the majority of the population are prepared to do whatever it takes to attempt to solve this catastrophe no matter how frustrating and/or inconvenient it may be. However, there are a some who are completely blase about the whole situation and seem to take pleasure in breaking the rules, thinking that it's in some way clever to do so (I could gibe many examples.) The government have received a lot of criticism for the way they have handled things up to now but I genuinely believe they are trying to do the right thing. It is a minority of people who basically don't give a toss about anybody or anything other than themselves who are prolonging this hellish situation. Large fines (which have recently been introduced) are a partial solution but I think they're going to have to start to penalize covid restriction law-breakers with stiffer penalties. |

Over the last few days I've begun to think people just stopped listening to the government and main stream media.
Yes there are people that want to rebel and deniers, and the sky is falling crowd, it feels more that people just no longer listen or care and unfortunately the fatigue is just going to get worse |

"How on earth can they police it though. There isn't the manpower and it's logistically impossible."
We, the people, need to make it socially unacceptable.
Like smoking in restaurants or drink driving. |

Should take the approach Isle of Man Government took. Large fines and people who broke Quarantine rules were sent to prison for 4 weeks. Isle of Man now have no restrictions or distancing rules as there is NO Covid on the Island. Their borders were closed straight away when Covid hit back in March and are still closed now. The advantage of being an Island, hang on Britain is an Island too |

Social buyin and pressure is about the greatest force that we have, as a social animal. More people are motivated by social pressure than big sticks, especially when there aren't public staff to wave the sticks.
The country needs bringing together to heal divisions. Big sticks don't do that. And it's always best to cure the causes, rather than mess around with the symptoms.
We have a system already. Focus on yourself and those you know, getting buy-in, rather than sitting as judge and jury. |

Fully armed military patrolling the streets, that will not end well for all involved, if you want the UK to resemble some middle eastern hell hole by xmas then put trained killers out on the streets next to women and children. |

The police can be bad enough if someone doesn’t kiss their arse, squaddies would be even worse. |

It would be fantastic if people were influenced by social pressure but I think a lot don't really care I agree though forcing people shouldn't be the answer but with some you just have to. |

I don't have the answers but maybe New Zealand could help as they closed their borders too and Covid was expelled from there too. Just proves if you have the resolve to do it, it can be done. For how long I don't know as this is a world wide virus and until people realise it has a potential to wipe out the human race and stop the transmission no where will keep it out in the long run. So its down to you people, will you stop mass gatherings like raves in a warehouse, parties on a farm. Play meets and parties in the swinging community. Probably not |

There should be one penalty - and with one warning, every day, on every form of media.
If you break the rules, the police will give the Treasury/DWP/whoever your national insurance number.
You will then lose your right to any furlough payment - forever.
Once a few dozen wankers have been made destitute, the penny should drop. If it doesn't - fuck 'em. |

I've just got over covid positive after 2 weeks in isolation. There were kids in my daughters class coughing in the days before we caught it. The parents didn't want to get them tested. If you have a cough, a headache, temperature, bad chest, get tested...... Simples |

I don't agree most are willing. The government has been so back and forth, I think they've lost credibility by continuously shifting goal posts.
It's like the parent who makes a rule but then keeps renegotiating, they lose their authority. |

If it works to quell the virus then I'd happily see army on the streets patrolling and enforcing.
Maybe then the people that have been doing their own thing all along and fucking the rest of us over might finally get the point.
I know this will upset a number of posters on the forum who keep spouting the usual "we have rights/we don't have to answer to anyone else etc etc" sort of bollocks but it's gone on too long now. Clamp down hard and then those of us who've been doing everything we can to abide by the rules can go back to having a life again (unlike the 45,000 in the UK who have already died from the pandemic ) |

Try doing their job before coming out with a statement like that ? Had to tell somebody their loved one is dead because they were using a mobile phone while driving (ah I can do two things at once and it was only for a second ), that a family has been killed because somebody had too many at the xmas party (cmon I can handle my drink I’m fine), run towards some nutter stabbing people with a big fuck off knife ( if id have been there I’d have sorted him out) etc etc.
Everybody slates off the old bill till they need them, but wouldn’t have the stones to do their job.
Maybe if you’re speaking from experience it might have been your attitude that prompted theirs ?

Think it depends where you are - around us, I’d say the vast majority of people do care / ie are scared of Covid, which I think is the right attitude.
However the impression given of some other parts of the country is that Hands Face Space is not being taken seriously or enforced. Couple that with a disfunctional track and trace system.
With schools still open, not surprising there is then scepticism that a lockdown will either be enforced or even if it is, have any net benefit. |

Really? We are in the middle of a global pandemic so why can’t a few covidiots just follow the rules and guidelines that are there to help us all? If you can’t follow the rules then expect to be punished . What makes these people so selfish, |
