What happens if and when we get a third wave - and then a fourth and a fifth etc ?
Do we just go on having repeated lockdowns every few months ?
Is that what the future holds ? |

"Yes, regular lockdowns are a part of our new normal "
If that’s the case with repeated lockdowns then many people will eventually lose interest in them and more and more will start to ignore them.
Even probably some of the most ardent supporters of them in here.
There has to be another way. |

"What happens if we get a working vaccine early next year?
We dont know...so we have take decisions as and when needed."
A vaccine won't make any difference, there's not enough people who'll risk taking it.
Lockdowns are our long term future. |

Lots of recent surveys suggest that actually about 70% of the population would be willing to take it. |

I don't know what the future holds, but I can say this:
1. Firstly we don't know whether there would be a third or fourth wave. It is possible, but not definite.
2. Secondly, if everyone adheres to "hands-face-space", then there would be less reasons to go into a full lockdown.
3. Thirdly there are natural and human interventions which 'may' occur, and if they do, then that could slow down the effect of the pandemic and minimise the need for lockdowns.
The intervention could come in one or more of these forms:
- Introduction of a Vaccine
- Better Treatment – eg Dexamethasone is already used reduce the chances of death
- Better Track and Trace system in place.
- Better quarantine of international travellers
- Or it could act like SARS 1 = it gets to a stage where it is no longer a deadly threat

Yes that's the sort of figures I've seen too, 70%, not enough for herd immunity.
Personally I won't be taking a coronavirus vaccine but I recommend it for everyone else |

Every day is a school day, we can't see into the future but we need to learn from the past.
The past tells us numbers were very low after a lockdown.
The past tells us complacency makes the numbers go up.

"If we all social distanced properly, wore masks/face coverings properly and frequently washed/sanitised our hands properly we wouldn't need lock downs..."
The .majority of people are doing all this already. Both here and abroad. It's time we stopped scapegoating and demanded better preparations and procedures. Anyone could have seen this spike coming way back in March or April. |

Add wide scale regular testing for the virus and antibodies and we might just be getting somewhere.
My suggestion and those above are achievable. All that is required is the will and the leadership. |

The government were very clear about this happening in March
We obviously didn't listen. |

Most people listened and took appropriate action.
Those in charge have not made adequate precautions or put in place coherent, effective plans or strategies. |
