Is there only me that feels that we are all fucked; the fools that govern England; Wales, Scotland and Ireland combined with the idiots that think they are immortal and parade around London and other places like there is no such thing as Covid.

We are doomed, why bother trying to stay safe when the governments and half the country doesn't give a shit about themselves and the rest of us !

I give in !!!

Whatever others do, we still have personal agency and a lot of control over whether we get infected.

Others may make it easier, by pushing up cases/100,000 but you retain some power

Yeah, I'm not fucked because there's a pandemic going on and I'm keeping my potentially disease vector arse at home.

I agree, OP. Don't know what to do about it though, apart from doing right by those around me.

If each irresponsible person causes an increase of risk of 2 (discounting government, just individuals): if there are 8 irresponsible people the risk is 16. If you join them it's 18.

Things seem hopeless but you're doing your bit. Keep doing your bit.

I'm in this camp too, the longer it goes on, the more fucked we are. Almost to the point if the virus don't get us, the economic shambles will. I'm in the survive the next 18 months somehow and hopefully we can have line under it and start again.

You can only help yourself now as others just aren't listening or helping themselves. It's a bad way to feel, selfish almost but by trying to help everyone you end up making more problems. Do your self a favour as you can only do so much, help those immediately around you and let the other fuck it up for themselves, as that what some people seem determined to do. Rant over

Agreed.

Head down, protect yourself, protect those around you, do what you can to help.

I got 'infected' back in march. I dispute I had control of it though.

With 70%+ of people having no symptoms and it being in the air we need to breath and on things we touch, I dispute anyone being able to control whether they can be infected.

Those that can fly and not breath obviously are exceptions

Yeah. We can hopefully avoid, but we can mitigate not prevent risk.

If you want the up side to it as yet it’s a fair bit behind similar events in the 50’s & 60’s & only 230 million behind the post WW1 Spanish flu month per month.

Compliments of the BBC World Service & a man from the ONS.

I don’t quite get the hysterical “we’re all doomed “ attitude. Reality is that we now know it’s the very elderly and the sick who need protecting. Chances of healthy people under 70 suffering any serious consequences are extremely small. More likely to be a runaway bus that gets you.

Well no, there’s around 25,000 record cases of long covid recorded in the under 50’s so far and rising fast.

The chances of anything involving a bus are massively unrelated to any of the impacts of covid-19 On people’s health

Some people will die, some people will live, the world will (probably) keep turning.

Protect yourself, be mindful of others. Take the hysteria and spin with a grain or 20 of salt.

I'm trying, currently on day 7 of the infection and I feel obliterated, as bad today as on day 1.

I'm guessing that the next few days will tell which way I am going to go.

I have been working throughout the whole thing been super careful was wearing a mask long before it was compulsory.

I'm a bit of a germophobe anyway.

But I let my guard down briefly following the death of my mother and BOOM!

I don't know where I am going with this other than that,if I survive and get through this then I will be stepping up to a whole other level the steps I have been using.

This thing is fucking awful they don't report the way it attacks the nervous system as well.

Bless you, thanks for your kind words.

But it's just something that I am going to have to go with as there's nothing I can do.

I'm trying to stay strong, despite various other health conditions, I am a strong man with a good strong heart and body I just have to keep my head strong.

Xx

A bit like 125,000 people in the UK having chronic fatigue syndrome. I expecting most of them to transfer to team 'long covid' over the next weeks and months.

Or you could forget all the steps you've been using on the basis that your chance of catching it a second time would be less than winning the lottery.

I must admit how would anyone tell the difference between long term covid and numerous other similar that cause fatigue it does take some sorting !

According to your other posts, the chances of getting it the first time were really small, obviously didn't pan out like that. Can't blame the poster for wanting to up their protection and avoid a possible second dose.

To the poster who is I'll, I hope you do make a full recovery. If you feel you need extra medical help, do not be afraid to ask for it. They are able to treat this much better now, but early intervention is still important.

We are enjoying life to the max

The only thing we make sure of is to try not to get close enough for long enough to anyone we don't absolutely have to.

Life must go on dispite those that hide away it those that deny the virus.

Common sense is the only weapon we know of to stay safe.

Adapt and move on ....

I expect what you mean is that "your chances of catching it, having it sequenced, being sure of recovery, falling ill enough to get high level attention again, having it sequenced again, and having caught a significantly different variant in order to be a 100% confirmed reinfection" is less than your chances of winning the lottery

So far the reconfirmed cases had all of that stuff happen. Yes it's rare, but it's to a high level of precision. I know of one study looking at samples of blood going back decades (for HIV monitoring) where they looked at evidence of (other) coronavirus infection, which occurred every 6-12 months. It's not solid proof, but it's probably more indicative than "there have only been four confirmed reinfections (last I looked), therefore it's vanishingly rare"
