Since when did everybody have to pay for a test. Is it for some special reason? If you have symptoms don't they stick a swab up your nose and down your throat and away you go?

I am getting full testing tomorrow as I am due an operation next week

an operation the NHS no longer does due to cost cutting, so have to go through my private health insurance

once you start looking into all the operations the NHS no longer do, you will be gobsmacked

but yep, the covid-19 testing tomorrow is included in the operation costing, paid via insurance.

Some people need one to get into certain countries. eg. Cyprus

A neg test and certificate is reqd within 72hrs of travel.

Not available on the NHS

Ah I see it’s because individuals wish to go to another country rather than general testing

If you need a test, it's free.

If you have paid, you gave probably been scammed and you might want to check who you paid and that they don't have any important information.

Nothing in life is "free"

The reason for having an NHS test is if you have symptoms or have been asked to take one

There are many reasons for having a private test

The main one is it's an entry requirement for some countries another for holidays or business.

Using the NHS for this is immoral as they are a limited resource and possibly illegal and isn't acceptable for many countries.

It’s not a health need it shouldn’t be available on the national HEALTH service

If someone decides to holiday during a pandemic it’s there problem

If it's for a holiday, it shouldn't be on the nhs, there are more important reasons for testing.

The private tests in the uk are generally too expensive and much more so than in other countries.

This is the thing with private medicine. Even when it is being paid for by medical insurance, suddenly every individual thing gets itemised and charged. Blood test for liver function? That'll be £150 please. HIV swab that's mandatory before they operate on you? Another couple of hundred on the bill. Prescription painkiller that they give you afterwards? Fifty quid. Follow up consultation? That might be part of the bundle. Anaesthetic? Nope, he's a separate line item on the bill.

I'm not making judgement whether it's right or wrong, that's a whole other topic. But when you see the billing for private medicine, it does help bring home just how valuable the NHS is to all of us.

that is very true and also why the NHS no longer carry out much needed operations

and the ones they do carry out, you will find you have to wait 3 years and more for such as - hip & knee replacements

3+ years

although its normally the same surgeon whether NHS or private, you are treated far better as a private patient

its a fact of life, not saying its right or wrong, but its fact.

So you don't actually get the point if the lost then.

It about someone WANTUNG to PAY for a private test instead of a "free" one
