I think its time to declare an emergency and let the chief scientist who is virous qualified take comand for six months and have the gov act as advisors . The best and most qualified for the job and not a bunch of clowns |

Is there an echo in the forum? Thought this was done to death a few days ago. But for the record, no your proposal can't be implemented legally, and even if it could, I wouldn't want it that way. They are there to advise the Govt at the time whichever one that may be in power at the time. |

For those of you who think you can change nothing read and learn. The population tell the gov what laws to make as the population see fit nothing is beyond change . Eg .you used to be able to force youre wife to have sex folks spoke out the law was changed. Also women dident have a vote but folks spoke out and the law was changed. Also you used to be able to keep slaves but folks spoke out and the law was changed. I carnt believ we have come so far only to have a population who dont know they tell the gove what laws to make or shall we go back to the magnacarta and the dark ages when a surf knew his place onder his lords boot and was happy . |

The government has to balance deaths from covid agsinst deaths from economic destruction not just this year but in the next 5 and 10 years, that's why they don't always follow the advice from medics etc. Also ask 100 experts their advice and you will get 100 different answers, the government's job is to make decisions based on all that advice |

Do you want an expert with incredible skills and expertise in a highly limited area or a highly competent broad generalist, who is a truly effective visionary leader?
Yes, we should deploy the appropriate technical competence for the right work, which includes advice to the government but foisting someone onto a role never potentially of interest, imposed on to a population who have not consented to this, isn't appropriate.
We definitely need the right leadership team though. It's highly questionable that we've even got anything like a pale shadow of what that could be. The Tiers of a Clown prevail. A waffling , sorry excuse for a pathetic man who's committed to himself and not us. |

The criticism of this is that you could end up with someone (like Witty or Valance) who is concerned with the virus and the virus only. They don't consider the other factors (such as the long term effect of increased unemployment or mental health issues) that they do not see the bigger picture and end up creating a bigger crisis further down the line.
Interestingly Sweden gave their chief scientists much more prominence and influence which is one of the reasons they did not have an official lockdown despite international pressure to do so |

And easier still to not review and critique what we're doing. Humans have evolved the abilities to learn as well as to conceptualise how things might be done differently, then apply some rational analysis of options.
The earlier human tools that were stone flints and wooden poles, progressively became spears, because individuals used their minds. We don't need to wait for a giant leap in our evolutionary progression, as we've long since passed those stages and can critique our approaches.
Around the world it's fairly simple to identify which leadership teams have fared well, compared to some of the others who haven't. The UK isn't in the first group |
