I wondered is it possible on fab to have a Covid thread that is just dedicated to proven data and facts.
The whole world together is trying to tackle covid and there's tons of raw data, peer research out there now. It would be great to bring some of it together in this thread. Who knows we may even learn a few things
So no opinions, no scary modelling, future predictions / projections and no best guessing.
lets keep this thread just for the confirmed data and facts from reputable sources.
Please add the source details to any data of information posted.
I'll start it off.
UK covid death rates by age groups
(data up to 12 Oct 20)
Source - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54570373
0 yrs - 4 yrs old - 0.00051%
5 yrs to 14 yrs old - 0.0013%
15 yrs to 24 yrs old - 0.0043%
25 yrs to 44 yrs old - 0.031%
45 yrs to 64 yrs old - 0.29%
65 yrs to 74 yrs old - 2.2%
75 yrs old and above - 12%
In the vast majority of those deaths the person had at least 1 comorbidity. So the above death rates already factor in the vunerable in the various age groups.

I think there are so many:
Unproven "facts"
Misleading "facts"
"Facts" tailored to suite different agendas
Along with internet nonsense etc it's almost impossible to claim anything factual about this ? |

"All I know is the hospital I work at about 1 in 6 dies from those admitted not necessarily with other health factors involved "
This isn’t hard fact or confirmed data. Thread derailed with anecdotal guesstimating already!
OP i appreciate your intention in starting this tread, but good luck keeping things fact based !!! |

Too many tinfoil hat brigade out there spurting utter rubbish.
Just look at those demonstrators in London over the past few weeks who believe it's all a hoax and don't believe any of the science.
If you like facts, if you haven't already, download the covid tracker app (produced by Kings College) where you can give daily updates on your health. Professor Tim Spector does weekly updates which can be found on YouTube as well as in the app.
And of course, download the NHS app and use it to scan in to locations displaying the QR code..
All of this will help so much to get us out of this.. |

The John Hopkins Coronavirus centre record a case fatality ratio of 6.3% for the UK. |

Not sure what that means really. But for those comparing it with seasonal flu...what does John Hopkins say about flu? |

case fatality ratio is meaningless.
It was over 10% early on.
It's likely that one 10% (ish) of transmissions are recorded. 0.63% much more like the fatality rate.
This is higher than flu but that's not the only important difference. It spreads far easier and rapidly meaning it infects MANY more people. Therefore, many times more deaths if left to do its things especially when hospitals get over run. |

What is this obsession with flu? COVID-19 is a corona virus, not influenza. |

I think you need to look up the definition of the word "fact"
A fact can only be one thing, the truth, a reality, something that is,
Unproven fact is a theory
Misleading fact is a lie, deceptive, untrue

I wonder why it is the chosen metric of mortality then. It shows the number of deaths relative to confirmed cases. It is accepted that the value will fall when there is a higher number of tests carried out. |

"There's only one FACT people need to know
There's a deadly extremely contagious virus circulation the world.
"
The good news is it's only just slightly more infectious than seasonal flu but 8 times less infectious than measles five times less infectious than chicken pox and three times less infectious than mumps.

Case death mortality of influenza is 0.1%
Case death mortality of Covid is min 0.6 max 0.8% depending on country
Source CDC Feb 2020
So it’s at least 6 times more pathogenic than Flu, not just a little |

Most of the population have either been exposed or vaccinated by the above pathogens- over 90% of the UK population is still susceptible to Covid |

I do not see the point in that post,
even if only over 60,s got it it still effects everyone as it takes up hospital resources time staff and money.
unless you are trying to comfort yourself in the belief that you are of an age that makes you safe from the effects.
apart from it possibly effecting older members of your own family, the knock on effect it has on the health service effects everyone if you don't believe that try getting a doctors appointment at the moment.
Plus every body who us admitted to hospital with it takes staff away from the rest of the hospital so if you are unfortunate enough to need itu because you have a hart attack or rtc you may not get that care. |

BBC/ Jon Hopkins ( and plenty of other sources state) state about 8% have been exposed to Covid leaving 92% susceptible- although that’s changing very recently. |

Exactly, people are not concerned about how infectious a disease is- they are more concerned about how pathogenic Covid is- deflection from the hard facts is not a good ploy. |

There’s only a handful of facts you need to grasp:
1) Covid-19 is killing people in the 10’s of thousands
2) Covid-19 is leaving long covid sufferers with serious long term issues, also in the 10’s of thousands
3) Covid-19 is still one of the easiest transmitted viruses in the world
4) Covid-19 without measures to keep it in check will overwhelm the NHS care provision
5) If Covid-19 can not be vaccinated against and are only hope is herd immunity (if that works) then we are 1/10th of the distance to achieving that. |

What you are missing is death is not the only serious outcome of covid.
The virus can also cause failure of/or serious damage to organs in the body such as heart and lungs.
This damage can be so serious as to require transplant surgery, though so far the numbers have been low.
Never the less this side of covid should never be overlooked. |

Was that last year's flu, next year's could kill 6 x more than covid. They should not even be compared, yes, both are deadly, covid is at this early stage of our knowledge is looking stable. Flu is far from stable, the next strain in 12 months time could make the amount of covid deaths look insignificant. |

Exposure is not the only reason for lack of susceptibility. Other estimates are very different. Google Dr Mike Yeadon's paper or the podcast version. |
