45+ shielding
Jump to: Newest in thread
So the Governments mad scientists now have a firm belief that anyone over 45 years old must go into compulsory shielding to "protect" themselves and the elderly as it now appears the most vulnerable age group and highest death rate is anyone 45 years old or older.
MPs thankfully aren't buying it and insist it wouldn't be practical in any sense but Boris and his higher powered barmy army aren't ruling it out for a next step in our "fight to defeat the virus"

Thats what the locals are saying but BoJo thinks this would work.
What we looking at here.... 65% of the entire population is over the age of 45 years old?? I dunno, I don't do statistics but your exactly right, we'd be a 3rd world country in weeks if that actually becomes a thing. |

Any practical industry would be fucked in 20 years time then, as who would be training the tradesmen/women of tomorrow. Apprentices would be left to learn by themselves as most of the folks training them and teaching them from experience would be close to this age. |

So people who have worked all through this from the start, have now been considered for shielding, glad that was thrown out
I'm approaching 50 years old and not ready for the knackers yard yet
They should go back to shielding the vunerable/people with underlying conditions, not people that have no reason to stop working and keep the economy afloat
It's ok for Bojo he will get full pay running the country, from his home on zoom
Some of us cannot work from home,no work no pay |

"What does shielding entail? "
No to leaving your house at all or have anyone in your home except for essential reasons like medical care.
The shielding letter stated that You shouldn't leave your house even to do shopping or get medicine or and should ask someone to do it for you. It clearly stated you should not even go out for a walk.
Also if you didn't live alone and it wasn't possible for everyone else in your household to shield, The shielding person should contain themselves to one Room within the home and if possible not leave that Room except to use the bathroom. This is why I get really annoyed when people say let's just start the shielding again because they have no idea exactly what they are asking people to do. |

No they shouldn't, Read my post it is on reasonable to ask people to totally shut themselves away from the world just so everyone else can go back to what they consider normal. |

Also we are not talking small numbers. There is about 11 million over 70's in this country plus around 3 million shield as so you are looking at 14 million people plus their families. |

But you did say but the really vulnerable should be asked to shield but then if you were considered in the vulnerable group at over 45 you aren't prepared to do it. People should only ask others to do something they would be prepared to do themselves. |

What's your type? Clearly not the type who has any serious real world experience...
The 'crazy scientists' whose job it is to model various potential outcomes do just that. The effects on wider society is the job of other people.
The information provided by the scientists and others should then be reviewed by the decision makers. E.g the government.
So, yes, the 'crazy scientists' do not care about the wider impact to society. It's not there job. |

Well it is mostly older people who seem to get the severe strength of the virus and are at more risk of dying, so I understand why the government would ask older people to shield.
Obviously it’s up to the individuals if they do shield or not. |

There is no reason for me to be at home, who will care for the vulnerable I do look after,I'm not against rules to help fight this pandemic, all over 45's is not practical to shield we are a huge part of the economy
My colleagues who shielded had no money except statutory sick pay,let alone what else they went through it was really tough for them

Look at the hospital admissions and deaths. The over emphasis on cases recorded from testing with a test which is far from reliable as an indicator of whether you have or have not corona is beyond stupidity. The number of cases will be proportional to the number of tests, which incidentally is way below the governments stated intended test rate. Where is all our money being spent?
The London hospitals I have checked have little or no cases for some time now. |

Are you serious? What is there to show off about? Haha!
I meet men over & under 45, so I wouldn’t struggle as I my filter is a wide age range.
What about that is “showing off” or telling people I’m still “young enough” to be below 45? I could be 50 years old and only like men under 30 for all you know.
Sounds to me like you have some insecurities you’re trying to project onto others.
You said “There would be hardly anyone left on the site to play with” which may be true for many, but not for all as some of us are flexible with who we meet.
Don’t make assumptions, it never ends well. |

Absolutely.

I think you are the one with the insecurities not me
You are the one who keeps hiding your profile and just coming out to post a message before going back inti hiding again lol ! |

"And amongst many other things there would be hardly anyone left on this site to play with !!
Crazy scientists who only care about their statistical models and not the effects on wider society.
Ivory tower types.
There would still be plenty left for me to play with to be honest.
Those who only play with 45 & over would struggle for sure!
Well that's good for you I am sure, and sod the rest of us.
Selfish or what ?
What is selfish?
I never said it’s right, I said I wouldn’t struggle.
So who are you calling selfish?
You really didn't need to tell us all that you are still young enough to be below the 45 age and so would not be affected.
Why on earth would the rest of us need to know that ?

You are both wrong because nobody should be playing with anyone on this site at the moment regardless of age |

I don’t have any insecurities about my age or age in general, the same can’t be said for you attacking someone for saying they wouldn’t struggle as they have a wide age range... you still haven’t told me how that’s “showing off”.
I think you’ll find my profile has been hidden for the whole of the pandemic. It’s not once been visible since March.
I’m not sure why that’s relevant anyway as I have every right or hide my profile when I choose.
I don’t think you know how Fab works, you don’t have to have a publicly visible profile to post on the forum, people with hidden profiles can post on the forum. There’s lots of us. |

You’re absolutely right!
That’s the whole reason my profile is hidden. I’m not playing & I don’t want to deal with lots of messages when not meeting! |

This is a hypothetical discussion about shielding everybody over 45 |

"So the Governments mad scientists now have a firm belief that anyone over 45 years old must go into compulsory shielding to "protect" themselves and the elderly as it now appears the most vulnerable age group and highest death rate is anyone 45 years old or older.
MPs thankfully aren't buying it and insist it wouldn't be practical in any sense but Boris and his higher powered barmy army aren't ruling it out for a next step in our "fight to defeat the virus"
"
Am surprised government did not go with this as most at over 45 and could stay at home. Or
Do they do less when in work lol and get expense on top. Mmm

Stop listening to Karen on Facebook will ya "
Nooooo. This was Karen from the mail, the telegraph and the guardians online pages.
Surely Karen from Facebook would be much more reliable than long standing media. |

Don't you watch the briefings ?
Are you telling me that Whitty and Vallance have no influence on the policy makers ?
Then why are they giving the public briefings ?
I think you must live on some other planet to the rest of us."
Is Scotland a different planet now? No, I don't watch the UK briefings. Do you need to be so obnoxious?
I think you need to read what I wrote because you are implying crap I didn't say or suggest
. The 'crazy scientists' model. Whitty and valance will review these models and brief.

"So people who have worked all through this from the start, have now been considered for shielding, glad that was thrown out
I'm approaching 50 years old and not ready for the knackers yard yet
They should go back to shielding the vunerable/people with underlying conditions, not people that have no reason to stop working and keep the economy afloat
It's ok for Bojo he will get full pay running the country, from his home on zoom
Some of us cannot work from home,no work no pay"
I don't do hash tag thingies, but me too 50 on Monday, scrap heap on Tuesday? |
