Ladywell, Lewisham.

Clashes erupted in Central London as Police tried to break up an anti-locked down protest.

Police said the Crowd were asked to leave because they had not complied with social distanceing as we all understand, it's bloody rocket science FFS

Protesters chanting: Shame on you,

Shane on you.....

Police used batons against protesters, leaving some with visible injuries. Protesters than marched to Hyde Park where more clashes followed. Protesters than chanting:Freedom, Freedom, Freedom

It was given the go-ahead on the understanding social distancing tock place. This was not followed looking at picks so they broke the law.

So all should be fined for doing so.

Wonder if it the same people that don't wear face masks when shopping. It's the I'm all right brigade.

Right?!

Baffles me that so many people don't understand the government is literally trying to PROTECT our freedom the more effort everyone can make at once = the quicker we can get back to some sort of normality and "freedom".

Also makes me laugh that these same people complaining about "freedom" are probably giving their data to every single website/app they use, every card purchase they make, every phone call etc etc. Honestly wearing masks and staying home is not that much of a stretch

Hi Amber, I have a question for you;

Can you please explain how "effort" against a virus will give you normality.

Thanks in advance, cos Im really really looking forward to normality. I have a horrible thought that it isnt going to happen though.

It's exactly the time for protest and proud that some of my family were there.

Perhaps you could recommend a history book telling of the time that a government took away all a peoples' rights and then gave them back?

For those people saying we need to stay in lockdown to prevent deaths:

Do you think someone who may die from Covid-19 is more important than someone dying because their cardiac operation or diagnosis for cancer is postponed is ok?

Even the government's own figures show that nearly twice as many will die from the effects of lockdown than from CV19. Where exactly is the logic in that?

Conveniently for the government, if more than six people get together police can charge in batons raised.

They have us by the short and curries, and they can keep this going as long as they want.

Political protests are exempt from the rule of 6. This protest was allowed as long as social distancing and covid rules were observed.

Prohibition was repealed due to at least half the population disregarding it and due to the gang violence that ensued.

Slavery was abolished due to protests and outcry leading to enlightened views.

These rights were not given back voluntarily but seized back.

Totally wrong on both counts.

Slavery was abolished because enlightened men wanted it that way.

Prohibition was Abolished because Powerful men saw the Opportunity to wrest power from those who had it by using popular opinion to gain votes.

Perhaps you could recommend a history book telling of the time that a government took away all a peoples' rights and then gave them back?

Prohibition. Rationing. Abolition of slavery. Just off the top of my head, y'know.

Prohibition was repealed due to at least half the population disregarding it and due to the gang violence that ensued.

Slavery was abolished due to protests and outcry leading to enlightened views.

These rights were not given back voluntarily but seized back.

You missed out rationing.

Well that had to end for economic reasons, businesses could make more money from selling and from having well fed and productive workers.

Plus, the politicians themselves were starving too so it was in their interests too!!!

So a bit like saying... That lockdown will also have to end at some point because of economic reasons... Therefore the government will be voluntarily giving us our rights back... Hmm..."

The "lockdown" should have already ended because of financial reasons.(Apart from anything else!!). It hasnt. This is a cause for very serious concern.

The problem could be a political one. The current government has to be SEEN to be doing all it can to tackle Covid (even if the measures implemented are nonsensical or likely to be ineffective) as come election time the Opposition party will accuse them of being incompetent and costing lives.

The aim of any political party is to gain power and to remain in power, which means presenting to the electorate that it is they who are on their side and NOT their opposition.

Look back over the lockdown, the blm protests had some of the worst scene seen during a protest on out shores, the way the police were attacked was a disgrace, yet they still didn't break up the protest despite the lack of social distancing.

In a way I hope they have learnt their lesson but I doubt it and are clamping down on some of this stupid behaviour during a global pandemic.

Thought the lizard men had dragged him off to their underworld years ago.

I’m not one for conspiracy theories (re-phrase that as “I do love a good conspiracy theory”) but the idea that this march was planned and backed by government, using paid stooges, in order to further restrictions upon our civil liberties may well have legs to it (and hopefully tits and a tight pussy too!)

Or maybe they believe that in a democracy they have the right to be heard?

Historically, protest has been a huge catalyst for change. Look at the civil rights movement or the suffragettes for instance...would you label them as idiots who just wanted to cause trouble?

Like brexit, the issue of covid19 is deeply divisive...and the powers that be are sitting back and rubbing their hands as they obtain more power and control over the masses.

It’s all a bit too ‘Orwellian’ for my liking...1984 but 36 years later than envisaged.

The effects of covid are beginning to be understood and acted upon, but I bet when (if) a vaccine is found, they will still be glacially slow to restore tho ha the way they were...think along the lines of petrol stations that put the price of petrol up as quick as a flash yet take days and weeks to put it down, and apply that rationale to a governmental context.

"From what I read the problem came from the protesters not following the rules set for the protest....

Police officers were also injured

The rules the protest organisers put in place, that Westminster council agreed to them.

If you could provide links to clarify and verify that, please do - it would be very useful

Like a previous manager told me, you want the information go and look it up yourself.

Yeah, or "I've pulled a point out of thin air and cba to back it up"

Surely If someone claims something they should back it up themself?"

I don't know who made the original claim and don't want to read it back, it's too depressing...

Something that I find fascinating about all this argument, is that over the millennia, people - peasants mostly, people like me and you. We struggled and we toiled and we suffered and we occasionally rose up. And yet, after all that.. we still seem to want the boot on our neck. I honestly cant understand it.

"Clashes erupted in Central London as Police tried to break up an anti-locked down protest.

Yes police were out of order AGAIN.. This protest was given the full go ahead from Westminster city...

Beggars belief

WHY WHY we are in the middle of a pandemic.

Thay should spray them all with acid.

There's always going to be idiots and we have those selfish gits to thank for us all losing our freedom. Its simple. Masks. Distance. No mass gatherings. Thats not rocket science.

"This is shit why protest about lockdown if the idiots dont and wont social distance thats why there in lockdown common sense just idiots who wanna cause yrouble

So you think if there hadn't been a virus we'd have had a random lockdown imposed on us? "

Of course not. Even the tories aren’t dumb enough to try and pull something like that off.

Covid appears to have played nicely into their hands though. Politicians are all about feathering their own nests...remember the expenses scandal? The sound of reversing beeps from Westminster was deafening.

Any excuse to impose their will upon the masses and they’ll grab it and wring it for all it’s worth.

And maybe that’s what people are scared that’s happening, and maybe that’s how people see it, and maybe that’s why they protested. After all, we all see things differently.

Or maybe they are just idiots looking for

Whatever the case, the right to peacefully protest our case should never ever be taken from us, and we should be free to exercise that right without fear of reproach or reprisal...even if we have to wear a face masks and maintain social distancing.

For me personally, although I have no respect for our current government,I do have respect for other people and if that means I wear a mask when I go to the shop or I don't meet up with people, or I stay home rather than go to the pub,so I avoid catching and potentially spreading a virus that has the potential to kill me or my family ,no matter how small the risk, I'm happy to do it.

I don't feel that my freedom has been taken or that I'm being forced into anything, I'm happy to follow those rules in the hope that doing my bit makes a difference.

1) I genuinely don't give a shit about people protesting. If this is how they want to spend their time that's up to them. But they weren't social distancing or wearing masks, from what I can see in the pics on the BBC NEWS article about this.

2) You mention the Suffragettes and civil rights movements protested for their (honourable) causes. Yeah okay but let's not also forget those who protested seat belts, drink driving limits, EDL etc. Protesting does not instantly make one a revolutionary.

3) WHAT exactly is this will the government is trying to impose??? I'm sorry to break it to you but as long as you're not doing anything illegal no one gives a shit, except maybe marketing and data companies. As much as I don't like old BoJo I really don't think his main priority when coming into power was to skullfuck the economy and kill all the OAPs off.

Totally agree, and that’s how I see things. I’ll happily wear a mask and stay home if it helps contain the virus.

However...telling me I can only have six members of my family at my house at any one time yet I’m ok to get onto a packed commuter train with hundreds of

other people, and work in an environment with 50 other people in close proximity is something that I see as a massive infringement upon my freedom, and just shows that this government is putting the needs of the economy above the well being of its citizens. Correct me if I am wrong, but surely the first rule of government is to protect its citizens first and foremost?

The majority of people aren't conspiracy theorists nor do they believe that the government is removing human rights and liberties as part of some grand master plan.

Most people just want to exercise their democratic right to question whether decimating the economy, restricting freedoms and changing our way of life wholesale is really the best course of action in the long term.

Sadly it appears that the protests today got out of hand and turned ugly and people got injured, in much the same way that the BLM ones did a few months ago.

Perhaps you could recommend a history book telling of the time that a government took away all a peoples' rights and then gave them back?

Prohibition. Rationing. Abolition of slavery. Just off the top of my head, y'know. "

Repeal of Rationing (right to buy as much food as you wish)

Sajid Javid and JP Morgan spring to mind.

It’s all about the economy. Anyone who thinks that capitalism and money aren’t tools of modern enslavement needs to look a bit deeper at things.

The response to this pandemic will be financially driven, and guess who will have to make up the shortfall?

Us taxpayers.

In 2008, we bailed the banks out and suffered over a decade of austerity to pay for it. Yet the banks control the flow of money, and since then have made healthy profits, sometimes into the billions.

They should repay the favour and bail us out now, but I guarantee they won’t. Expect more austerity for years to come, and enjoy reading the Sunday times rich list and seeing the wealthy get wealthier.

Money. Profit. The economy. Gain.

All far more important than you and I.

More power to the protesters (but please remember your masks and the 2 metre rule in future).

Perhaps you could recommend a history book telling of the time that a government took away all a peoples' rights and then gave them back?

Prohibition. Rationing. Abolition of slavery. Just off the top of my head, y'know.

Catholic Emancipation

Repeal of Rationing (right to buy as much food as you wish)

This line has been doing the social media rounds all day, it's not original, it's not clever & it's not truthful."

Tbf neither are a lot of the protesters (ba-dum-pshhh)

"For me personally, although I have no respect for our current government,I do have respect for other people and if that means I wear a mask when I go to the shop or I don't meet up with people, or I stay home rather than go to the pub,so I avoid catching and potentially spreading a virus that has the potential to kill me or my family ,no matter how small the risk, I'm happy to do it.

I don't feel that my freedom has been taken or that I'm being forced into anything, I'm happy to follow those rules in the hope that doing my bit makes a difference.

Given the amount of money that specific politicians have invested in very specific companies... do you genuinely think that those politicians have the best interest of the hoi polloi at heart? Outside of financial gain? Really? In your heart of hearts - really?

More power to the protesters (but please remember your masks and the 2 metre rule in future)."

If the police come tooled up for dolly Johnson the sheep and his incompetent cronies, then the British public should come tooled up too and let the government know who pays the incompetent prime dickhead of a minister and his incompetent cocksucking cronies wages who's in charge, if the bullying cowards of the police attack the public then the public should attack back without hesitation full stop!

Protesting a lockdown and not wearing masks during a killer worldwide pandemic is idiotic at best.

These protests shouldn't be allowed in any country until we have a viable vaccine to seriously control the spread and effects of the virus.

The only reason everyone is in the mess we are in, is because of idiotic leadership at the beginning, and they continue to make idiotic decisions on a daily basis.

The deaths we've had so far from idiotic leadership is a historic catastrophe, specially in this modern age of global communication.

This failed leadership should be handled in a court of law as crimes against humanity.

The leadership knew what had to be done to protect the people, they just refused to do it because of money and politics.

So, they just let hundreds of thousands of people die, so far, just to satisfy their own greed and positions of power.

If that's not a crime against humanity, we

shouldn't even have that law on the books !

Police said the Crowd were asked to leave because they had not complied with social distanceing as we all understand, it's bloody rocket science FFS

Protesters chanting: Shame on you,

Police used batons against protesters, leaving some with visible injuries. Protesters than marched to Hyde Park where more clashes followed. Protesters than chanting:Freedom, Freedom, Freedom

Yes police were out of order AGAIN.. This protest was given the full go ahead from Westminster city...

hahahaha - hahahaha So wish I was there now. And they say Live Comedy is dead during the Pandemic.

Honestly wearing masks and staying home is not that much of a stretch "

Honestly, if these are truly protests against government overreach, restriction of civil liberties and unjustifiable, unnecessary and arbitrary restrictions on daily life then the organizers need to learn a lesson.

If you give conspiracy theorists and similar easily discredited individuals to have a headline role your protest will be dismissed and nothing but a bunch of nuts making a lot of noise.

Get rid of the loons. Put some real scientists, business leaders and even ordinary people at the front and watch the difference.

Police baton-charging a protest being addressed by a scientist or better yet a well-respected businessman would make the sort of headlines guaranteed to make any government extremely uncomfortable.

Police baton-charging a protest being addressed by Icke or a similar loon, that's just playing into their hands.

Time the protestors started playing to win.

I imagine the reason they don't have well respected businessmen and scientists addressing the protests is because none will be seen dead anywhere near them.

Also, the reason they invite the loons to speak at them is because that's who a lot of the protesters turn up to see.

"Conveniently for the government, if more than six people get together police can charge in batons raised.

They have us by the short and curries, and they can keep this going as long as they want.

The rule of six was obviously brought in to quell the protests

Every COVID Legislation we have had has included Our Right to Protest. What has also been clear throughout in the the Legislation is that each Protest is Covid Safe. The Rule of Six doesn't apply. Safe distancing does.

From the photos Ive seen from a forum member who attended, I would say social distancing was followed. "

that certainly was not the case in trafalgar square......

Perhaps if they dropped the loons then they'd find many more credible speakers more than willing to take their place.

Likewise, loose the loonies and a lot more normal people who don't want to be tarred with the 'nutter' brush are likely to turn up in their place.

There is a serious and growing groundswell of opposition to the restrictions and the seeming lack of accountability within government. These people don't deny covid, don't believe conspiracy theories, aren't generally anti-vaccination or anti-mask and are usually reasonably socially responsible. They're also fed up of watching their livelihoods suffer and their businesses be destroyed, having their liberties restricted and their government treating them like children.

Take away the nutters and I'm betting many more ordinary people will take their places.
