They cared so much about old people they send them back from hospital with covid to Care Homes where the Vunerable Are...

Not all scientists agree that climate change is happening either but that doesn't mean it isn't.

The trouble is that people look for something to believe and on one hand they have the lying bunch of grifters and con men that are our government, on the other hand they have the lying bunch of grifters and con men that are the anti-mask/lockdown/Covid deniers.

Who think we're doing more harm than good by persisting with a path that's clearly unworkable long term?

Who refuse to sit quietly and wait on the off-chance that there will be a magic bullet that stops the disease cold?

If there's anyone left who thinks this is all going to stop if a vaccine appears, think again. Look at the logistics, open your eyes and ask yourself... if a vaccine arrives and needs revaccination every 6 - 12 months (a reasonable scenario), who is goimg to manufacture, distribute & administer it to all 66 million in the UK?

They aren't. The most at risk will (rightly) get it and the rest of us will be left to get on with it... sounds a lot like 'protect the vulnerable' doesn't it?

The OP os right. We're being led down the garden path by politicians more concerned with headlines than harms.

I think it has been one big mess/ mistakes and corruption, however opening up the country trying things out and then putting the breaks on if it doesn't work is something to be expected surely.

I had read Kendricks article before. He goes on to claim that Imperial also mixed up the IFR and CFR when imputing the data into their modelling and so their mortality figures would be likely to be out by ten fold.

Anders Tegnell in an interview with Andrew Neil on Spectator TV also stated the reason they dismissed the Imperial modelling was because they didn't recognise the data used by them, put in their own data and came up with a figure that is very close to their actual death numbers.

You will be pleased to know that the recovery rate is actually much higher than if you do that, not all infected get tested. However even if 99.5 of of people recover, the more who get infected the more who will die.

Think we are all a little guilty of believing a scenario or thread and then searching for evidence to reinforce our bias.

Probably the worst way to honestly discuss an issue.

Best way is to proceed as told when a student, many years ago.

State your hypothesis and then search for evidence to disprove it, if correct you will find less to disprove and more to reinforce.

But still love pub talk, do it myself in the pub.

You are right, it's not hard to work it out but our government is one of only 4 in the world not to publish the recovery rates, and even on one of the daily briefing Boris was asked why, and he acted like he didn't realise, and said he would look into it. Nothing happened! What the OP said about scaremongering after that is not far from the truth, there is a good news story there they could publish any time they like, but they choose not to. I think we need to be careful of basing judgements and actions on 'cases' A cases is not a diagnosis. What is real in hospital administrations and deaths. With children back to school, universities opening, more of us at work and the seasonal effect it seemed obvious that cases would rise.. But is the reaction and the implied numbers proportionate? We need to watch admissions and deaths, they are the real flags to what's going on.

Protect the vulnerable and be sensible but do not live in fear.

Because most of those decisions are made (or at least advised) by experts, doing what they think is best for the population. That doesn't mean that they're perfect, but it does mean that the chance that they're right is a lot more than some random person on Facebook, etc who start from the position of "I don't want to follow these slightly inconvenient rules" and then look for things that support that view.

If experts are often wrong it's because their expertise is used to avoid situations. They are also providing worst case scenarios.

I don't post that often, but near everything you've said was wrong.

Nobody is blaming young people. Same as nobody were blaming Asians. It is simply certain groups are seeing higher positivity rates.

If any one group want to attach blame to themselves for their actions then it's up to them. No-one throughout all of this has said to stop washing hands or to disrespect the potential spread of infection.

Help out to Eat Out, meant keeping businesses afloat during non busy periods. It didn't mean going out on the lash with very little distancing - people weren't getting pissed up because they were genuinely helping out. All this victimhood is just a speeding up of the the next lockdown all because they 'they can't get as sick as the old or frail', but the students are the victims now, pah?

Stating they are only running 80k tests is patently wrong. There's an increasing capacity of 250k, though normally around the 220k mark. There were a couple of problems with labs in gaining appropriate materials/proteins to carry out the tests but realistically your 80k figure is off.

Allowing Spanish, Italian, Chinese in - at the time their rates were likely lower. At the time the economy would need to get moving - you know the help out to eat out, things like Airlines are going bankrupt. Positivity rates would be watched and controls put in place if infection rates became too high, though without some degree of normality, all sectors of the economy would have fallen.

This is largely not a Government issue, they are local issues that is promoted further by peoples unwillingness to self regulate. People are to willing to pass blame for their own selfishness, then they have the audacity to ask for independence, deregulation or greater freedoms when independent data and Medical Experts are telling them there is a pandemic is patently not taken on.

So, we are close to 100,000 infections a day, our hospitals in the north are at a stage where elective surgery is being cancelled and the south/london is seeing the surge in young cases that the north experienced a few weeks ago. France is having to go into a full lockdown and a number of European countries aren’t far being...

I struggle to understand how anyone can believe this ridiculous nonsense.

All of the people in power, or with power rely on the masses to make them money... whether it is through taxes or profits. None of them are stupid enough to CREATE a situation that takes away their money making power.

Also, getting groups of different people to all agree with each other is near-on impossible. The whole concept of hundreds of organisations around the world all finding a common ground in this ludicrous master plan is just beyond fantasy.. they wouldn't be able to agree on where to hist a meeting or what biscuits to serve.

This government wants money - it’s that simple. It’s dressed up as other things obviously but they want the people out there working to line the pockets of the elite.

There are a few details that we do overlook, we have been here before.

SARS back in 2003 started exactly the same as the current but within 18 months had all but eradicated itself.

Swine flu, bird flu.. all a flash in the pan and all starting in Asia.

So when SARS-Covid 19 appeared, the entire world just ignored it, not helped by China downplaying the seriousness of the situation.

The UK government underestimated just how virulent this particular Coronavirus is; most governments did (some still are!).

This is a new and novel virus, new discoveries are being made, even now.

The UK was never set up with clinical labs able to undertake the testing; it's never been required here before on the scale needed for this pandemic. It's not like a whole raft of test equipment and fully trained lab techs would have been sat at the ready for a disease nobody expected.

Test levels are a bone of contention for some, but let's face it, on average 80,000 tests a day, 7 days a week, is pretty phenomenal. Test labs are extremely specialised clean room environments. The kit required isn't mass produced, and every country is after the same equipment as the UK wants.

The rapid tests that are currently being trialled are what the government pinned its hopes on, this was delayed due to supplier problems and a a few weeks behind where it was expected. This again is a minor miracle, i deal with HMG, most programmes are months behind schedule just because of the nature of how slow government works (irrelevant whether conservative or Labour)..

The UK is at the forefront of what it has done, Germany has only done as well as it has with testing as it had a large number of test labs in place already (used for other purposes but able to be used for processing covid tests).

The truth is out there if you look at the data and the scientists understand the trends and can make fairly accurate predictions based upon it.

It just requires everyone to do their bit, follow the rules and spend less time spouting untruths because they feel like they are being lied to.

News networks are the worst for propagating untruths, they grab hold of any little inconsistency that a politician or advisor makes and spin it to sensationalise non-news.

Try a good source of information, Professor Tim Spector will give you a good dose of no nonsense truth if you are interested. No agendas, just the current information the team he works with have discovered.
