What's so different in Italy?
Jump to: Newest in thread
So the England,France and Spain's cases all jumping up at scary rates but Italy's are pretty consistent and don't seem to be rising anywhere near the same way...
Does anyone have an opinion on why that is? |

You saw what happened to Italy at the start, they are desperate for it not to happen again so they are being sensible. |

"Italians are (generally speaking) scared stupid of germs. They are incredibly clean. They put our nation to shame."
You mustn't have visited Italian toilets then, many of which are unisex in restaurants and bars |

"So more general respect and following rules in the population rather than government measures?" Lets face it the government only have to make these rules for the stupid, most people with an ounce of sense know how the virus is transmitted and take precautions, wash your hands, keep your distance and wear a mask in confined places its not rocket science the rules are for idiots who cant understand that simple concept.

I truly don't understand why we don't adopt the same testing route when we can clearly see it working elsewhere |

Instead of Italy, you could ask what's special about China?
That's where it all started but they've coped remarkably well since. Harsh measures imposed that would be unacceptable here. Having a totalitarian state and an obedient population works wonders when dealing with a health crisis. |

How lockdown is enforced isn't really the issue at hand. It's that it does work.
Quite frankly I would have been quite happy with marshall law in this country if that had meant that all those people hadn't died and we weren't in the mess we're in now.
It seems to me that many don't care that our beloved UK is going down the toilet, just so long as they are pissed as farts with their mates when it happens. |

What we do know is how the Chinese respond to outbreaks. Judging from the waterpark photos where thousands attended a huge party in Wuhan. That certainly wouldn't be happening.
We tend to distrust anything coming out of China because they do things like break international law..... oooops gotta go. Bye. Chat later |

just because china’s govt lie to the world and are communist doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen in a democracy
but by the same token, just because the government don’t tell us the whole truth all the time (show me one politician with that level of honesty) it doesn’t mean that every single thing they say is a lie |

Have you ever been to China?, I've had several stints and the one thing I can absolutely tell you is the CCP practically lie about everything, they control ALL the media and the entire of the internet, people still die at the hands of the CCP getting what we'd call normal news out of the country.
If the BBC write an article about China, every single word has been passed to them by the CCP.

my point wasn’t really about the level of lies china tell... it was about the uk and how people seem to think saying china lies = i think the uk is 100% honest or uk govt were caught in one lie = every single thing they tell you is a lie
its not quite as simple as that |

.... no such thing, no testing at airports (in Italy right now), very few people wearing masks, loads of people out as usual for dinner, meeting friends in pubs etc.,... a lot of people close proximity to each other on the beaches, nights out, shops, markets, everyone chatting as usual - normal life as per usual, one feels like there was no Covid here ... interesting and the numbers are low - no one gives a f...., there is no bbc, no fake numbers no panic and fake test results - here’s your answer! |

They've already done the DNA testing and know full well the virus has been in China since at least September 2019, now you may ask yourself why those videos didn't escape but ones from December/january did?.
Virtually nothing escapes the CCP, the vast vast majority of stuff you see is what the CCP want you to see. |

I was reading about a country where any newspaper who doesn't report positively on the current regime aren't invited to press conferences. That TV channels that broadcast unfavourable undercover exclusives during the last election were threatened with closure..."
I heard of another country where the gmnt gave lots of ppe contracts to companies with links to the gmnt. The pm also apparently expelled 21 members of his own party who didnt vote the way he wanted.
Thank god those shenanigans wouldnt happen here. |

"Instead of Italy, you could ask what's special about China?
That's where it all started but they've coped remarkably well since. Harsh measures imposed that would be unacceptable here. Having a totalitarian state and an obedient population works wonders when dealing with a health crisis.
Haha we have no idea how they are coping.
Unless you believe everything the Chinese communist party say
Just too easy.
What's to easy ?
The complete lack of self awareness where we lecture other countries on being strangers to the truth.
i posted on another thread about black / white vs shades of grey in terms of the restrictions but it applies just the same to this
just because china’s govt lie to the world and are communist doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen in a democracy
but by the same token, just because the government don’t tell us the whole truth all the time (show me one politician with that level of honesty) it doesn’t mean that every single thing they say is a lie .
It's 1984 crossed with a brave New world and enforced by Vladimir Lenin, there is no comparison at all to Western free press democracies.
So why did all those videos come out showing when covid 1st took hold in china?

They still have elections and a free press though which is something China have never had and never will.
Sure they'll sort the bankers out pronto and they'll also give your wife a forced abortion when they find out thru local CCP agents she's up the duff!.
Don't like Muslims or Africans, no worries forced internment and repatriation, give me a break with this modern leftist swooning over China, I've lived there and seen it first hand.

Is that the same place where one of the candidates in a recent election only engaged with the media is who he knew were behind him and wouldn't ask questions that they would ask his rivals..? |

I'm not leftist. I carried a rifle fighting communism. So stick to what you know.
This is not a free press. When certain jounrnalists are told they may not attend Number 10 Downing street because they don't toe the line that is muzzling the press. Threatening to close Channel 4 is the same threat.
A freelance journalist in Scotland was arrested and detained for 4 hours in a police cell for interviewing people about Trumps Golfcourse in Aberdeenshire. The press there is pro Trump and receives funding from Trump.
The Sun and Daily Mail are owned by individuals who do not live in the UK and have a vested interest in UK politics not concerned with the wellbeing of UK citizens. |

"And our free press is so impartial
No one is swooning over anyone but it's a bit rich for us to give lectures to anyone.
Still it's what we do best."
If we have such a free press, how come nobody knows how many children Boris has? |

Yes I agree completely, I'm no fan of curtailing citizens freedoms or the presses for any reason, even "granny killing" |

"So the England,France and Spain's cases all jumping up at scary rates but Italy's are pretty consistent and don't seem to be rising anywhere near the same way...
Does anyone have an opinion on why that is?" it was, on good morning this morning Italy is, having only a minor rise in infections, at the moment compared, to the rest of Europe. They are puting this down to localised testing which is working and not like this country where we have only got a more centralised testing program in operation which is part or our problem. If Italy can do it why can't we. |

"If the, so called experts in this country can see this. Why are they not doing something about it "
Boris is not worried about COVID-19 desths. Just public opinion. He's saying we are doing more testing than anyone else. Yet NHS workers have stayed at home for lack of testing.
How can we, in reality be doing so much testing when it's a problem for frontline workers and schools are limited to 10 tests a school? |

We rushed to outsourcing to large companies that didn't have all of the expertise needed and only latterly using more of our local NHS team expertise for testing and tracing. Dido now has a bigger responsibility for the NHS, after her 'progress' with tracing They won't admit mistakes and downplay problems, thinking that use world beating about everything cons us.
Italy has been doing broader local testing and it seems to work really well. |

"They've got their testing system sorted. Airport arrivals all tested, results in 30 mins; etc.
If only our government could do the same... "
Erm nope that's wrong, I've recently been to Italy and apart from filling a form in to say I'd not been to certain countries and wasn't displaying any covid like symptoms there were no checks at the airport.
I will say though that in Italy there did not seem to be any where near the number of people with an exception to wearing a face mask and it felt safer walking the streets that it does here, even in an area with minimal cases. |

Apologies, I watched a C4 news item that suggested airport testing was the norm. Perhaps it was just Rome. |
