"Just heard it on sky news...its pretty grim and should make us all have a reality check on this "
That's about 10% of the annual death rate in the USA.
Population 350 million.
So that's about 0.06% of the total population. Is that right?
Yeah I think so. |

The government have handled this appallingly six months to get ready for this ... no tests available and not a bloody clue what they’re doing. For that the blame lays squarely on their shoulders. |

For someone to be so out of touch with reality that for even a minute they can't see what has happened with the testing debacle of the last few weeks and that the promised world beating track and trace is not even the best in the UK ..
Yes there has been irresponsible behaviours by some of the public but ffs wake up.. |

Using the same logic we should forget about 911 which killed a fraction of that and also the Vietnam War.
Donald Trump killed 3 times more Americans in 9 months than the Viet Cong did in 10 years. |

How can you expect compliance when senior members weren’t following - Bojo himself shook hands and boasted about it. Cummings? Well need I say more other countries sacked their government members for breaking lockdown us? Nope! Total shower of shit. |

The point seems obvious.. large numbers are scarry, they're deliberately used out of context. So when put into context they have a better representation of facts.
Now if we had 200,000 in the UK then it's the same figure, but would it represent something rather different?
Bit like saying UK has a high population density, it's 275 per square km. Seems high. Then look at Bangladesh it's 1,352/km2. Now the UK isn't really densely populated at all. |

Do you believe the government should set an example to it's people?
For instance do you expect people to take Boris seriously when he tells us to social distance then attends an international rugby match. Tells us to wash our hands then shake one hand after another in a hospital. Then excuse Dominic Cummings with a story an idiot with an IQ of 70 wouldn't believe. |

Love the way some just ignore personal responsibility.
People make their own choices. There's plenty on here meeting up, there's even social events organised and still going ahead. There's parties happening all over, people are blatantly ignoring what is the right thing to be doing. That's not our leaders fault. That's plane selfishness a the height of stupidity, knowingly doing what is wrong. |

Absolutely not.
They all have the morals of a stoat and are as crooked as the day is long.
That's not a moral example I want to live down to.
However, just because they're being arses, it doesn't make sense to copy their example and become one as well.
We all know what we need to do now and we should just do what keeps us all safe. |

Biden cocked up on the numbers the other day again. Trump went down the bleach route.

I didn't say you said so. If anything I was supporting the comment you made earlier - and I'm saying that we can't solely blame the government for all this mess, because part of the mess is also caused by members of the public not following government guidance and advice. |

No I'm saying we can't be expected to follow rules if our leaders are blatantly insincere about them. It's lip service and is treated as such. |

Trump was briefed on 24 January 2020 about the reality of Covid-19. He then went out and told his people that Covid-19 was a "hoax" and that it would go away on it's own. He has lied repeatedly through the entire crisis and people have believed him and died as a consequence. |

I don't think the poster (MayContainFullNuts) meant that Trump killed them directly. More like Trump's lack of leadership on this matter has resulted in too many avoidable deaths. |

Um ... because he's been an incompetent President during a pandemic that resulted in 200,000 American deaths? Just a thought.

He's the President. That makes him ultimately responsible. Is that hard to understand?
He also lied for months that Covid was far less dangerous than he knew it to be.
And he kept giving mixed messages on masks. Sometimes saying they had a use. Other times, telling journalists to take masks off.
He also pushed cures that weren't cures. And suggested cures that sounded mad or dangerous.

He's been found out to have downplayed the importance of the virus and how it would affect all American citizens.

Defending him against what exactly?
Are you defending sleepy joe and his maniacal socialist plans to wreck America?
Scroll up to the title of this thread. That's what some people seem to be defending Trump against. And it is astonishing.
Why is that Trump's fault?
Um ... because he's been an incompetent President during a pandemic that resulted in 200,000 American deaths? Just a thought.
Why is he responsible?
He's been found out to have downplayed the importance of the virus and how it would affect all American citizens.

That's about 10% of the annual death rate in the USA.

Yeah I think so.
I'm intrigued as to what sort of argument you think you are making here.
Using the same logic we should forget about 911 which killed a fraction of that and also the Vietnam War.
Donald Trump killed 3 times more Americans in 9 months than the Viet Cong did in 10 years."

You do realise 200,000 people dead is a lot of dead people."
I do indeed, do you know that the amount of people that die of cancer each year in the USA and UK are 605,000 and 165,000 respectively, which is around 0.25% of the population for each country. This will rise due to the shut down of the health service because of COVID hysteria. |

Covid is a new virus. Despite its newness and despite various degrees of lockdown and despite social distancing and despite masks, it's killed 200,000 people in the USA. Without all those measures, it would have killed many, many more.
Do you really think countries all round the world would have taken such major measures unless they had to? Do you think the entire world is being hysterical about this? Despite the huge financial cost? They did it because they knew there would have been far more deaths otherwise and health systems would have crumbled under the impossible demand. |

But you're ignoring the fact the number of Covid deaths would have been much, much higher without a huge effort made all around the world to restruct the virus. And you're ignoring the fact an avalanche of Covid victims all at once could have overwhelmed national healthcare systems. |

I’m not a fan of trump or Boris either but it seems to me the figures in USA are actually on par with uk when you consider size of country? Sure someone will quote some figures to me though! We seem to have desensitise ourselves to death because of graphs and media coverage and I’m guessing those who are directly impacted have a much different view. People have died (lots of them) some through disease and many suicides etc not recorded! Figures seem to wash over us now and for me it’s more about sensible practical solutions that change things for the better rather than moaning and blaming which to be honest I’m sick of. This is a terrible world disease that impacts everyone. Time to face up to the fact this is with us now and work together to try and make things better! Sermon over |

What does it say? What conclusions do you draw from the sensationalist and not unsurprising outcome? What was the size of the Poll? What were the questions asked.? There's no "don't know / undecided" response? Which side of the binary question did the don't knows fall into.? What was the context of the question? Ie was it at a yahoo boys political rally or via post or radio phone in or...?
Further we all know that there are scientists, especially in the pharma vertical have results lead by whomever is funding their research.. Or they find themselves out of a job or out of funding. There seems a notion that scientists are all knowing, all empirical, all sharing. The world of science is equally as challenged by human frailties as any other sector.
So far the science in this tells us... Wash our hands, keep our distance, cover our nose and mouth....and not a lot else. |

"Just heard it on sky news...its pretty grim and should make us all have a reality check on this
I'd their testing is as shit as ours I'd take it with a pinch of salt. Germany testing is not good either the problem is the behavior of people stop blaming the government
The government have handled this appallingly six months to get ready for this ... no tests available and not a bloody clue what they’re doing. For that the blame lays squarely on their shoulders.
"... For that the blame lays squarely on their shoulders..."
---------------
The blame lies on both sides in my view. Part of it lies with the way the government has handled it, the other part lies with some members of the public who have not been compliant with the guidance given. I have not said the government is doing things right, they have done much wrong but you still have to help yourself, just blaming the government is a cop out
Do you believe the government should set an example to it's people?
For instance do you expect people to take Boris seriously when he tells us to social distance then attends an international rugby match. Tells us to wash our hands then shake one hand after another in a hospital. Then excuse Dominic Cummings with a story an idiot with an IQ of 70 wouldn't believe.
Absolutely not.
They all have the morals of a stoat and are as crooked as the day is long.
That's not a moral example I want to live down to.
However, just because they're being arses, it doesn't make sense to copy their example and become one as well.
We all know what we need to do now and we should just do what keeps us all safe."

Well in that case you would have to say that Hitler never killed any Jews, Charles Manson never killed anyone, and the person who ordered the Titanic to full steam ahead never killed anyone.
And Osama Bin Ladin never killed anyone in 911.
Trump diverted ventilators ordered by predominantly Democrat states to go to Republican states.

How has trump killed them?
Love the way some just ignore personal responsibility.
People make their own choices. There's plenty on here meeting up, there's even social events organised and still going ahead. There's parties happening all over, people are blatantly ignoring what is the right thing to be doing. That's not our leaders fault. That's plane selfishness a the height of stupidity, knowingly doing what is wrong.
Trump was briefed on 24 January 2020 about the reality of Covid-19. He then went out and told his people that Covid-19 was a "hoax" and that it would go away on it's own. He has lied repeatedly through the entire crisis and people have believed him and died as a consequence.
Briefed? By whom? Fauci?
That's good enough reason to disregard it.
"
Where did I mention Fauci? You did that. By the way Fauci has been right most times whilst Trump has been wrong most times.
Actually he was informed by US intelligence.
Here is tweet from Trump 24 February 2020
"The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. We are in contact with everyone and all relevant countries. CDC & World Health have been working hard and very smart. Stock Market starting to look very good to me!" |

The fact that *people will die anyway* in a pandemic, is not an excuse to just sit back and do nothing.
By taking appropriate & decisive action, the number of deaths can be greatly reduced. |

an interesting question to trump supporters:
why do the crowd behind him have such a high number of mask usage?
and the 99% mainly off camera are predominantly maskless?
Just to help trumpturd brains, here is a clue, he is a lying, dangerous stupid cunt."
Just watched "You've been Trumped" and "You've been Trumped Too"
He's a piece of work that's for sure. |

"Land of the free ... home of the brave
Only if the have been to Wal-mart and bought a gun. "
Passion for the second ammendment decreases substationally when people are told that someone they love has been gunned down in a mass shooting by someone who had no right owning a gun. |

They keep on giving people death figures witch sounds a lot but let’s put it the other way
What % of people died in the population 0.04% yes every death one to many but People die every day
And what they not talking about is how many more are going to die due to hospitals not doing route treatments
So people please try to have a different outlook on it...

your stats appear to be at odds with reality for the following reasons.
it's a transmissible virus.
go to a hospital with an injury or health condition and catch the virus- your odds become stacked against you.
gasping for breath is something I'd never wish upon anyone, especially if already very unwell.
I've had the virus,it might be part of the flu family etc however it feels horrific gasping for air.
I've seen you make the same point earlier,I just wonder what you might think when we have more flu's coming and cross covid/flu infections will be higher.
there is your different outlook, based on the information most are aware of,yet some stupidly wish to ignore.

Who is in charge in America? Trump is president but each state has a governor in charge of that state's covid response.
Some states have Republican governors and some have Democrat. |

you are correct, but if you want to leave out the finer details that's fine.
it should not be a bipartisan approach. In some cases it's a federal matter.
funny how the virus is a state matter, but the 'widespread' rioting is a federal one when it 'needs' to be.
trump recently violated state law at one of his last rallies.............well because, he's the president and a self serving lying idiot cunt. |

I don't know the finer details, hence my question.
I am being fed information by a Trump supporter so I'm fairly confident it's skewed. |

glad you have some skepticism.
one example: new york(democrat) pays more towards the USA than any other state. Trump started a twitter war and has been booted down for his idiocy.
without getting deeper into the politics, lets just see his actions:
he denied the virus threat publicly
held rallies
played golf
admitted to woodward on tape it was a deadly virus.
mocked masks
held rallies
cleared a street of protesters with force to stand in front of a church with a bible.
has the CDC change it's data
benched his two top doctors on virus task force
claims the wildfires on forests not being properly raked
claims several antifa men dressed in black boarded a plane to cause havoc in another state(which was actually a rightwing idiots facebook made up post several months earlier)
defends a 17 yr old who jumped states and killed two people.
tweets absolute shite literally half of the day and watches fox news the other half(as well as another qanon led news channel)
made up antifa as a terrorist organisation that the fbi dont even list.
made up a huge voting conspiracy lie.
I forget the fact checks, basic lies etc, but it's something like a 1000 or more lies.
consistently getting his lies and misinformation fact checked and censored by social media.
embraced fucking idiotic whackjobs:-
qanon idiots
religious rapist demon sperm claiming doctor
these are all easy to find.
I do my best to find anything out before I post it, possibly 75% of the above is all trump on video as it happened, no need for editing out details etc.
hope I've helped.

"Are some people still defending Trump? Even now? Astonishing.
Defending him against what exactly?
Are you defending sleepy joe and his maniacal socialist plans to wreck America?
If you think Biden is a socialist I have some magic beans you might just be interested in."

Regardless of what anyone thinks of him here and let's face it we are all biased one way or the other he is on course to bury Biden with the election with the help of the American people at the ballot box.
We have the debates coming up and if you think Biden will wipe the floor with Trump at a debate you are not paying attention. |

"Just heard it on sky news...its pretty grim and should make us all have a reality check on this "
It's about the same percentage of the population as in the UK. Five times the population, five times the deaths. |

So why has this year got the lowest death rate of the past 5 years? |

Probably because most of the country spent a third of the year not leaving their home. |

Is your position based on demonstrable facts or more a case of wishful thinking? |

The population makeup of UK is: England (84.25), Scotland (8.2%), Wales (4.7%), and Northern Ireland (2.8%)
UK = 66 Million
USA 326 Million
