Moot point
Iv had a conversation with a vulnerable today
They indeed have been told to get the jab
I suggested why ??
My reasoning
IF she caught covid she will die
Simple flu jab no flu jab covid kills
So I suggested she must practice impeccable hygiene
If she prevents all risk of contracting covid then their is the same non risk to catching flu
And yes an intelligent woman who MUST NOT contract covid CAN implement a safe regime
Going for her jab puts her at more risk than continuing her personal covid prevention regime
With absolute diligence an individual can avoid flu common cold and covid
However to expect the entire world to do so is not reasonable and unless the entire world was meticulous any one who is vulnerable must undertake the mammoth but possible route of self preservation
If they take that only route to their saftey then a flu jab is needless

You should only be having one if you are on the list of people who get a free one.

Actually whether you get flu or not is pretty much out of your control.
I'm a bit of a germophobe. I won't touch a door handle, wash my hands regularly etc. But when you go to work in an open plan office and the hero with flu who came into work sitting next to you with a box of tissues is coughing and sneezing... you're fucked.
If you are a parent and your kids go to school you get whatever they get. |

Did you not say further up that there is all ready a shortage in boots?
So you would rather get in first than make sure that the people most at risk get one. So what clem said is right. |

Boots website is not taking any bookings for under 65's, they are prioritising elderly people.
If I am able to get one and have to pay for it I have every right to do so, just like everyone else who doesn't qualify. I hope that's ok with you. |

People who have the flu jab have it for a reason, they will have respiratory or other health problems that are made worse by flu that could kill them. The link is simple COVID will do the same.
If you get a REAL dose of the flu you will be that bad you won't get out of bed for anything.

If you're working in an office today where that is tolerated then you desperately need a new job and the local EHO needs to be having a word with your ex employer.
Our number one office rule since all this started : If you are sick or think might be getting sick with anything, STAY THE F**K AT HOME.
Any employer not doing that is asking for trouble. |

It can affect some people for a short period after the jab is given, but generally, doctors and health experts around the world say the Flu Jab is hugely successful and those numbers suffering side effects are relatively low, plus the after effects only last for a few days. |

I have underlying health conditions albeit well under control. But for years before having the Flu Jab, I suffered really badly from what had been diagnosed for years as Asthma and resultant Flu.
It got so bad, that twice, I was hospitalised for 8-9 days each time to stabilise my condition.
Fortunately, a doctor recognised my condition as being apart from Asthma and resolved it, but the underlying Diabetes meant I was put onto the Flu Jab.
Since then, I've been free of Flu each year. It works so well for a lot of people. |

Not sure it’s all new to me I didn’t even know you could have a nasal spray. Just know he’s got a very bad heart and lungs so he was told not to have the flu vaccine after the reaction he had last time.

As an asthmatic I'll say this.
A little bit of uncomfortableness with nausea and breathlessness (if it happens) if rlfar better than having flu.
I had a couple of years where I didn't have my flu jab... Got flu, ended up hospitalised...
Had my flu jab ever since despite a full on panic/trauma/phobia of needles. I'd rather go through that than have to be admitted to hospital because of flu again. |

Or you could just mind your own business?"

If you can, please get a Flu Injection - it helps you and it helps others.
Totally disagree, grandparents took the vaccine twice ladt year. Worst year ever with colds. NOT ALL THE BODIES ARE THE SAME
But the flu vaccination doesn't stop you getting colds, it only stops you getting certain flu strains.
I'd rather have a bad cold then the flu.
Yes. Last year's flu strains. "

If you are a parent and your kids go to school you get whatever they get."
This is NOT true now we are in covid land
Risking anothers virus is now not acceptable or safe
If a vulnerable contracts covid they die
The vulnerable cannot rely upon society to keep them safe
There is no vaccine for covid
Thus if the vulnerable does not want to contract covid they need to be meticulous with their preventative measures
No contact no close contact with grand children no going closer than 3 meters . Impeccable hand Hygine no touching door handles frames
Going to pubs etc
If practiced as necessary then both cov and influenza and the cold are transmitted via exactly the same pathways
The ONLY way to protect yourself from covid is to METICULOUSLY protect yourself from covid everything else is hope and guess not good enough when your life is on the line
By simple logic if you protect yourself effectively from cov 19 you have zero risk of influenza
Ironically
Going for the flu jab could plausibility be the single chink in ones protecting armour where the shielding vulnerable may statically be putting their exposure to covid higher than them staying clear of places with close contact humans

dont think you're taking the risk of covid seriously??
It kills a vulnerable person
If it were Ebola or SARS 1
Would you really suggest risking work or looking after kids ???
If a vulnerable must go shopping they MUST ensure anyone who does cough SARS onto them that they have an effective solution to ensure the errors of others cannot kill them
Sarrs is out there it kills if you dont want to die you cannot rely on humanity the vulnerable or anyone who does not want to catch it must ensure they cannot
The sad fact is if a vulnerable does not want to risk dieing they will have to limit their freedoms and can never be close to their children again

I was clear
I said your statement of catching colds from others was certainly true pre covid however this virus is so dangerous that one cannot risk the environments or situations where covid may be and that's the only way flu can be caught
IF one protects oneself EFFECTIVELY for covid once will not need the flu protection
If one is at risk of catching flu and vulnerable they they WILL eventually catch covid and die
It's just a harsh reality
Bubbles and masks do not stop covid only slow it
It's there for any child to spread and thus no contact
A damn damn damn miserable existence

Awwww bless ya. When I first posted on this in January there wasn't even a thread for this iteration of covid, just one that was a year old. Since then I have been called a conspiracy nut, a scaremongerer and a bullshitter because I thought Covid-19 was serious.
So thanks for saying I don't appreciate the seriousness of Covid-19. It's a welcome relief.
I've asked two questions:
1) If you are at the shops, work or wherever how are you supposed to stop someone who does not social distance from coughing all over you? Are you suggesting a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick for anyone who comes within 2 meters? If so you may catch Covid-19 from your arresting officer.
2) If you have children and don't want to die of Covid-19 what do you propose? Putting them on ebay? Putting them up for adoption? Killing them and claiming self defence?
What is this immediate solution for if someone coughs on you in the shops? Immediately douse yourself in bleach?
But yes you highlight the problem. It seems to be the responsibility of the uninfected to live an impractical life rather than the possibly infected to behave responsibly. |

I know you take it seriously I was being a tad flippant
I did answer you just dont like the coldness of the reality you also miss understand that I fully support everyone trying to reduce the spread
But that's the fact I'm trying to illustrate
We can want everyone to comply
Want rant all we like
It does not change the reality nor my point
I suggested that for a vulnerable the flu jab is academic, possibly less valuable than it opens another Avenue to catch
When I go into a shop I assume it's full of both covid and the flu
I assume everyone has both
I would prefer not to
I would prefer no one cough their covid over me
But you rightly say it is they do
If you are a vulnerable you could only catch flu if you had let guard down
If you let your guard down you will catch covid
I dont want that but we cant change that
If we could change that then again we would be protected from flu equally as we would covid and until something changes that's not happening
You seem to feel that me illustrating that vulnerable people MUST effectively protect themselves is suggesting I dont think everyone else should try their best and collaborate, that's incorrect
I only matter of fact illustrate that until everyone in the world practices exceptionally strict hygiene and stops intermingling and touching things that the vulnerable will have to assume every surface they touch has covid and every human they meet inc kids or grand kids has slipped up and has a killer virus
Solution
Erm there is non
If a vulnerable goes out and goes close to another human and is coughed on they will die of covid
My musing is not about covid
Or how a vulnerable should act
Only that taking the flu vaccine is theoretically less beneficial than it appears AND possibly because of the need to be close to another human in an environment known to attract the unwell it possibly could be counterproductive
I see it like this
There is killer shark infested water with jelly fish
I love surfing and hate jellyfish stings
I can get a shot preventing the stings if I swim 100 through the sharks and jelly fish
I'm going to chose not to surf not the jab

As for the children exactly what to do
So you get covid you die
You let the children out eventually even if the world behaved they would catch it
What you going to do keep them inside ?

The sad fact is if a vulnerable does not want to risk dieing they will have to limit their freedoms and can never be close to their children again
A flu jab is negated by default
Going to get the jab could plausibility give them covid
As for the children exactly what to do
So you get covid you die
You let the children out eventually even if the world behaved they would catch it
What you going to do keep them inside ?
It's an impossible situation "
The point is that if you and your family stay at home and venture out then you are probably safe from flu and Covid-19.
The moment you venture out you hand over a bit of that control to the consideration of total strangers. |

If you can, please get a Flu Injection - it helps you and it helps others.
Or you could just mind your own business?
Actually whether you get flu or not is pretty much out of your control.
I'm a bit of a germophobe. I won't touch a door handle, wash my hands regularly etc. But when you go to work in an open plan office and the hero with flu who came into work sitting next to you with a box of tissues is coughing and sneezing... you're fucked.
If you are a parent and your kids go to school you get whatever they get.
So what I've said isn't true? Well lots of words but no actual reason why what I have said isn't true.
If you are ar work and your coworker is coughing and sneezing over you do you think METICULOUS handwashing will save you?
If your kids come home from school with Covid-19, what are you going to do? Keep them in the shed and leave food for them outside the door?
If a vulnerable person goes out to buy food or other essentials and someone coughs on them they have no way of preventing that.
dont think you're taking the risk of covid seriously??
It kills a vulnerable person
If it were Ebola or SARS 1
Would you really suggest risking work or looking after kids ???
If a vulnerable must go shopping they MUST ensure anyone who does cough SARS onto them that they have an effective solution to ensure the errors of others cannot kill them
Sarrs is out there it kills if you dont want to die you cannot rely on humanity the vulnerable or anyone who does not want to catch it must ensure they cannot

Zero disagreement there
However the vulnerable inorder to avoid both MUST practice impeccable anti covid measures including not touching hand cleaning respirators and avoiding close proximity to any one including their children
I did not say should
Up to them
I only give a logic statement
If they want to they will have to
I do think others should try to practice impeccable covid prevention but even if they did our vulnerable still
IF they dont want to die Must not take risks
My obsession of over70s vulnerable
Today a lovely gent entered where I work
Wearing his mask struggling to breath
After 8 steps he had touched every surface and handle
Then touched his wallet and mask and watch and car keys
2 minutes before a lady and her 5 year old had been there the child fresh from school
The child also touched everything
So I had a kind word of preventative advice for the old gent
He nodded smiled tried to come closer than 2 m I moved away
Cheerio he said as he used his bare hands to use the door handle
Yes I had cleaned everything after child but our friendly gent did not kno that and I'm truly not convinced that could be possible in every environment across the world
Point being
Everyone should do their bit very much so
But it would be wise if our vulnerable were given more than a soundbite for effective means to effectively protect themselves whilst not at home

I totally agree with you. I wish someone would make an app so your phone shouted at you every time you touch your face.
There's a lot of things we can all do. It isn't just the vulnerable and it isn't just for Covid-19.
I for one think that shaking someones hand is unnecessary. Gone are the days when someone will draw a sword on you... |

If i were vulnerable I'd take responsibility for my own health by dressing accordingly in public places, rather than expecting strangers to do it for me. Or hoping that covid knows not to attack me from children... |

It could be suggested it would be safer to not venture into a shop where lots of sick people gravitate esp to receive a product that theoretically at least should have had its need negated by strict covid avoidance strategies ? |

Normally data is used to add to an algorithm to predict the statistical most probable and prevalent strain
Erm 8 months of anti covid strategies has effectively destroyed the worth or the validity as the algorithm would have been based upon no human intervention |

I'm absolutely NOT giving either advice or a recommendation
Simply a logical analysis that might help someone decide if they want to risk venturing into germ infested environments? |

Boots cleans its doors surfaces and products after every customer through the door ?
Boots can ensure no one in its store has covid ?
It's a store full of non understanding shopping and possibly Ill humans
I'm quite sure the narrow area where one is injected is fairly safe
Getting there and back out again I'm not so confident
Boots I assume has banned all children ?? What no it hasn't erm weak link right there
What children dont touch stuff and if they do it's cleaned immediately cool glad to hear it
What all vulnerable people are fully conversant and informed thus practice impeccable hygiene when out , awesome
I'll suggest again
A human practicing an effective anti covid regime negates any need for the influenza jab
And the very experience of going for the jab adds an extra layer of unsafe environment to protect effectively from
