"I read on another (serious) debate site that people have reported their local shops running out of tinned food, cleaning products, pasta and vitamins.
"
I've heard that sales of such goods have risen, but not run out - although having said that all the economy tinned beans / peas at Asda were sold out. I thought maybe just a delay in restocking shelves, but maybe not.
I've just picked up an extra tin or two of things, pasta, frozen goods etc when I've done my online shop, so not panic bought anything. Just have a reserve

Have to agree as I nipped to the supermarket for a neighbour who's having to isolate as they're due for an operation. No Beans, pasta all gone, most pasta sauces gone and most shelves looking like they needed restocking. . Are people really so thick that they haven't learnt from last time? |

We buy ours at Costco too - we did before the pandemic as well so it's a good reserve |

I don't think most people do stock plie.
The problem comes when people buy 3 instead of their normal 1.
Because if everyone does that at the same time it causes a shortage .
If everyone only brought what they needed it would be ok. |

I understand the problem ......
The Covidiots who stockpiled last time are about now running out of everything they over bought then. Being completely devoid of common sense, being creatures of selfish habits and not learning anything from the last 6 months have now run out and need to stockpile again!! ..... bless em!
Leave it a couple of weeks and they will have disappeared again and the shelves will be full!!
Most worthy of today’s fuckwit award though!

Can never understand the mentality of panic buyers.
Buy a little extra, maybe 5% more, on your shopping...that's ok, the system easily copes with that. To buy 3/4/5 times what you need (and cannot effectively store/use) borders on insanity.
There is enough (and more than enough) capacity in the supermarket system and food production chain to cope. |

"Oh no so will there be q's again. Bummer"
My partner popped to the co op this morning and had to queue for the first time in ages.
It wasn't too long maybe 5 minutes, he did say that he noticed certain items like pasta, loo roll and eggs were not available and no paracetamol.

"Morrisons are rationing items to 3 per person on loo rolls pasta and sanitizer. Paracetamol ffs god knows why people panic buy them?"
I don't know why people are panic buying but at the same time knew that they would. Went through the process of making sure we weren't running short of anything three weeks ago already.
I mean the first time round people might not have seen it coming. But this time surely.... |

"Why can't people understand that if they just do their normal weekly shop there will be enough for everyone and there won't be the problems we had last time "
Because there are profiteers who realise that if they create a shortage they can sell these items for more than they bought them. Apparently it is very organised. |

"Just an absent minded random thought, but did the Italians panic buy Pasta in their lockdowns?
Enquiring minds want to know . . . "
Apparently there was one day of panic buying of all items at the beginning of the pandemic and thereafter there was none of any items.
Like I say this panic buying is orchestrated. |
