The so called science behind wearing a mask is to protect everyone not just the vulnerable because every body can catch Covid but mainly the vulnerable will loose their life’s to it.
We as a family take our guidelines from those cheeky chaps and chapesses in power so when they say stop we will stop.
Or when some one on the virus forum of a swingers site says so because this is where the real experts are at.

I would say it's also a question of where should we start with this idea?
The masks are mainly to protect others from you rather than the other way around. I think social distancing and frequent hand washing to avoid picking up fomites is more effective than wearing a mask if you are not infected.
I happened to be at the local university yesterday and saw freshers walking around the campus and drinking at the student bar. Although they're obeying the rule of six, the groups are neither wearing masks nor social distancing. |

Yes I know that the average pore in a mask is 2 to 5 hair diameters in width. How many viral particles will travel seamlessly through each pore?
If you go to the cinema and catch the cold from someone they haven't committed a crime and you chose to put yourself in a public place. Its life. It happens. But not for you. You want the state to regulate away all risk and wrap you in cotton wool. |

Not as many viral particles as will pass through with no mask? So there have been scientific studies showing the efficacy of masks, there have been projections of how masks can cut down the viral load delivered, which means less severe cases... but you object why? Because your mystical civil liberties are being impinged upon? How exactly? Do you feel the same way about seatbelts?
And as to your other points, if anything mask wearing has helped to get things moving again. It gives people the confidence to get out and start using services.

The entire issue was waring a mask vs not waring a mask out in public.
I don't see any problems or issues waring a mask out and about while guidance persists because doing so does help reduce the possibility of transmission, where you don't care or resent taking the 2 or 3 seconds to put one on and have a high and mighty attitude as why should you care about other people, if they get ill and die because I transmit the infection then tough shit.

I can't point to studies yet, but it strikes me as pretty obvious that taking concrete and visible steps to help deal with what is largely an invisible amorphous threat is a massive enabler to the many who felt anxious in the early months of the pandemic.
When the history of covid 19 is written I'm sure the value of them will be clearer, and the moaning kranks who were afraid their freedoms were being stripped by having to wear a bit of material on their faces will be reduced to the ludicrous footnote which their behaviour deserves. |

There is no science behind mask wearing. Indeed there is no real evidence that they even work in the the operating theatre. There are many scientific papers out there on this.
If you care to remember, back in March, all the politicians and the WHO said they didn't work either.
Then suddenly the WHO (biggest funder Bill Gates) changed it's mind. Deborah Cohen BBC Science Correspondent then tweeted (July 12 if you wish to check).
"We have been told by various sources that the WHO committee reviewing the evidence had not backed masks but recommended them due to political lobbying. This point was put to the WHO who did not deny."
So there you have it no good evidence they work and the WHO advice changed because of political lobbying.
Meanwhile if they did work and were containing this (allegedly) most dangerous of pathogens they should of course be being used in the correct way (they are not) and be disposed of as hazardous bio waste before being incinerated. Instead they litter our bins, pavements, trains, buses, rivers and beaches.

And this is what we need - people to do this. Those on this thread who say “masks don’t stop a virus” actually, some masks will do but you’ll find it hard to get them. However that is a moot point because - a virus by itself will not survive, or travel. It has to be IN something to do so. Like snot. Or spit. Now masks ARE very effective at stopping snot and spit flying out of your mouth and nose over everyone else. They also offer a degree of protection to incoming bombardment, but not to micro-Particles. That is why you wear a mask - so that your rancid virus laden snot and spit does not enter someone else’s mouth nose eyes etc.
Not difficult. Quite responsible. Fairly effective.

Yes which is why they are restricting people visiting friends and relatives in areas of high infection. Its not rocket science people do not wear masks when at home with relatives and friends which is where the advisors are saying is the highest transmission.

We live a world where care agencies who care for the elderly and vulnerable the most but dont wear masks as they dont really care but want to make money running a business, and teenagers overcrowd the buses now and some dont wear masks. I recently sat next to young strangers on public transport. If there is a 2nd wave its not the face mask wearing citizens. Its now too dangerous to ever go on a bus and taxis can be dirty unclean.
