I don't remember that claim op. The current rules, although simpler than the were, have diminished significance when 7 or more people can spend the whole day together in a pub or other social business but are prohibited from needing outdoors, or in a non-commercial building. Heck, they can even congregate together outdoors for hunting.
Either tackling the virus is top priority and the magical number 6 is the significant number, above which viral apocalypse starts, or it's just another finger in the air rule cobbled together to make people think that things are being done.
It comes to something when allowing us to go hunting is more important than really limiting the spread of this virus |

It wasn't a claim from the op but was in the news. Obviously missed that I assume |

No limit (other than normal licence/safety limit) on boat fishing trips either.
Spoke to a skipper here in Looe yesterday. He took 8 people out mackerel fishing for 2 hours in his 20foot open boat. No masks required, no distancing etc.
Later he was using boat as a ferry across the estuary/harbour. 3 minute trip....Max 5 passengers, wearing masks as it then becomes "transport".
But thems the rules!! |

It was yes but it was simply more ' look over there..' from a government desperate to divert attention.. |

What I don't get is why people still make a song and dance about the inevitable inconsistencies that come from trying to balance people's livelihoods with their health. Is it that people don't believe their should be any attempts to control the spread of the virus? Or that they think it is their obligation to try to find ways to break them? Or that they think that all rules to control the spread should somehow be "consistent".... As an example... That children should not be allowed back to school because it is a group of more than 6?
It's really not that complicated. Do what we can to stop the spread to you and your neighbours and friends. If there are any inconsistencies (and there are plenty... Exactly as there are with any other set of laws / rules... Consumption of alcohol for example).... Try and think of the bigger picture. |

Schools need to open kids need an education you onlyu have to look what happens to the ones who don't get one to see how detrimental it is in later life.
As for pubs its not the pub which is an issue its the fuckwits going to them who do as they like with no regard to others thats the problem. |

Totally agree.
Either people are thick or they're just making noise for effect.
This has always been about compromise and if people don't play nicely, the compromise will be removed and things will shut.
Then people will whine that we are living in North Korea and have to go on a march.
Pathetic. |

I would guess we have had several hundred visits each week to each of the 46,000 pubs in the UK with no masks worn (because people are eating and drinking) over the last 2 months. So let's say about 150 million visits. In those 2 months the death rate has continued to decline to practically zero. When will people realise the pandemic is over. |

If your numbers are correct. It shows nothing other than the compromise measures have worked. To reduce the spread and to allow bits of the economy to operate. Good news I would suggest. |

Well pubs have been shut down for a week now in Bolton, and cases are still going up, so it's obviously not the pubs,
There is no way they will do a Bolton in Birmingham £££££££
Bottom line is, it's general meeting in houses causing it, and I'm afraid to say that the 6 thing is completely useless, as you can mix and match any random meetings you like with anyone from anywhere.
The 6 thing is only any good for targeting raves, big house partys and Maybe the odd family on the 6 boarder line |

I don't own a television.
I'm not sure how anyone can claim a pandemic is over when the disease is still spreading. Unless they don't understand what pandemic means. |

Schools are always going to spread things. It's a shame we didn't use the summer to get infection rates down further, so we could make sure our children had minimal further disruption to their education. |

You mean like not encouraging people to eat out indoors in pubs etc ? |

Agreed. Govt blinked too early.
On their 5 stage scale, they were doing stage 3 actions while we were still at stage 4, so that was quickly binned and forgotten about.
Should have stayed in lockdown, driven the virus down further, got all the systems in place for testing and tracing during lockdown. Then reopened. With a better way to control the virus.
Instead, we rushed to reopen and then will probably lead to locking down again. |
