So we are having to have the Covid test where I work and it’s ‘compulsory’ no ifs or buts ....I don’t think it’s fair that we have no choice in the matter as I for one haven’t had any symptoms.... not looking forward to it myself...... plus don’t know if I want to know if I’m positive or negative what are you’re thoughts on having the test done yourselves ? |

Yes ! I’m saying I have no symptoms like many people plus would be nice to be given the option as I know numerous people are not getting a test done where they work |

We are offered weekly testing where I work
I've never had it
Some do, some don't
Not sure you can be legally forced to be routinely tested |

But you could be asymptomatic? Have it and pass it on with no symptoms yourself.
If you are worried physically about the test - it is uncomfortable but nothing mega worrisome - eyes might water (as they do when you stick something up your nose - You might gag a little with the swab on your tonsils.

If your employers are saying all staff need to and have several kits I presume there’s good reason for it in your line of work.
As others have suggested why wouldn’t you just have a simple swab taken confirming you are all clear or in a worst case scenario stopping you from unintentionally endangering many others if you where positive. |

I have one weekly and have for weeks, it helps me know the people I look after are safe and me and my partner too.
Little bit unpleasant, but no big deal. we also have daily temperature checks, I'm happy that where I am is doing all it can. |

It seems dogmatic to insist that someone has a test, as the result could affect them in many ways, other than having time away from a work site. If the employer was accepting some responsibility for mistakes they have made, I would first expect them to inform me of their remedial measures, including the provision of tests. ACAS may be a reasonable step for advice and support, as may a union.
Testing could affect future insurance availability and costs, I would expect, as all medical tests and conditions have to be informed to insurers.
I'd certainly expect that any mandatory, intrusive measure into my body and health would have to be completely justified by an employer, especially if it's not included within my employment contract. Obviously it should be undertaken within employment hours and it should be with a guarantee that you'll not be adversely affected in any way, now or in the future, due to their decisions. |

Have your employers carried out a data protection impact assessment for this before starting testing if not they are breaking the law.
If an employee does not agree to take a test, they cannot be forced to do so. However if the company can prove the necessity of testing in the particular environment then they may be able to take disciplinery action against you. Check the have carried out the legally required data protection impact assessment and ask why the test is necessary, they cannot do it just because they want to |

"So we are having to have the Covid test where I work and it’s ‘compulsory’ no ifs or buts ....I don’t think it’s fair that we have no choice in the matter as I for one haven’t had any symptoms.... not looking forward to it myself...... plus don’t know if I want to know if I’m positive or negative what are you’re thoughts on having the test done yourselves ? "
Seriously no drama the throat swab just activates your gag reflex a little - nose one nothing to report. |

"I would have thought there will be plenty who cant get a test will be a little bemused if they read this thread...
There are plenty of places you can get a test done
Not according to the people wanting tests
Only quoting what I’ve heard "
There are currently No tests available lots of kids needing tests and parents can’t get them so whole house has to assume the worst and isolate for 14 days. Back to school joys. I’d grab weekly testing with both arms us teachers aren’t allowed that. |

"My dad is a nhs contractor and gets tested every two weeks
Every 2 weeks ?? Shocking !
Why is it shocking?
That he has to have it done every 2 weeks when the labs are inundated with tests
But surely it makes sense that people working (especially in healthcare) are tested regularly to prevent spreading the virus?
I think only daily testing with rapid results would have any real benefit in the health and social care sector "
Not teachers? As it stands if a child has symptoms the whole bubble has to isolate except the teacher .... |

Lots of moaning about can’t get test
Especially by the so called news
We have friends who live in Germany and are in the same boat .
If you get a test there is a five day wait for results
But you don’t hear that on our news here.
Just hope bad it is for us

So is you company footing the bill and doing it on the Gov.uk site there is a list to tick and it is not just because my boss wants it testing is stated as
Only get a test if you have coronavirus symptoms or have been asked to get tested by test & trace
So you might not be able to book one |

"I would have thought there will be plenty who cant get a test will be a little bemused if they read this thread...
There are plenty of places you can get a test done

Even when people managed to find a test time, it sometimes needed them to cross the sea, for an early morning appointment, such as Northern Ireland to Scotland.
A Welsh person had to travel long distance to Telford, to arrive and then be told that the centre was shut, even though he was on time.
Northeastern people have been given slots on the West Coast automatically.
That's if appointments are even available anywhere. Often by early morning the tests have gone for in-person or by post and people have to join the even larger queue of people the next day, for the lottery of getting a test.
It must be really upsetting for people, as they have no priority as they've waited longer for a test etc, or can reliably know if they will ever get a test whilst they are infectious.
Talking of 10 million tests a day shocks me, when testing and tracing isn't something we could get right before any second wave, should it get worse. |

"Why don't you want it done ?
I’m not looking forward to it as it’s not nice apparently but understand why it has to be done.... jist I know many people do the test differently .... some go to the back of the nose and some only swab the inside "
The test is fine, minor discomfort, just gag a little. I've done it twice due to having a high temp and not allowed in work until cleared. I did it myself, it didn't bother me having it. |

Them’s the rules ....... so said teacher could then infect the whole school. The official reason is that teachers have a responsibility to socially distance from pupils ... righto if a four year old is crying, or their lace needs tying or they can’t open their banana you’ll ignore them even if you have got room to get 32 kids in your class then social distance. |

I'm sure you can use the test yourself
At my work they test 100 staff over 2 days per week, every week,we are given a choice to do it ourselves,or the RGN does it,I prefer the RGN to do it,just incase I do it wrong
They made it compulsory beginning of July, the management had advised that if you don't comply, you won't get any shifts,as it's all about protecting all the residents and staff
We put our phone number in and work email so we both get the results
I feel safer having it weekly, and am so use to it now it's just routine
Test results use to be within two days, now it can be more than 5 days |

What's your reasoning for not wanting to know if you're positive?
I guess it’s one of those isn’t it if you’ve not had symptoms..... we had the antibody test done but didn’t think they would implement the swab test due to lack of kits "
Sure but as has been said before.. And not sure if the numbers have changed but 4 out 5 are asymptomatic so you could be spreading it... Be great to know wouldn't it? Especially if they are arranging it all for you. The rest of the testing systems seems to be under a bit of strain. |

I am a pathetic man wimp and I've done it twice.... And walked away so it can't be that bad. Seriously though first one wasn't even discomfort.. Second one was slightly uncomfortable got 20 seconds . |

Just get it done
Be thankful you have a caring employer, if you develop symptoms and don't get tested or are asymptomatic you could be the one that closes your employer down and possibly out if a job. |
