As we all know there are new restrictions starting as of Monday.
But why not from midnight of the announcement ?
Why do they give us time between the two.
If lockdown was from midnight of the Friday press breifing why not the new rules.
Is there a legal reason ?

Interesting question this weekend will be party weekend and arguably spread more virus as people are ‘making the most of it’ .... I thought it was just a shit government but maybe legal who knows. |

Yes there is a legal reason.
It had to go through parliament on Thursday and the lord's on Friday, then royal ascent.
The weekend was probably to also allow for the Police force to be fully briefed on what they can and can't do. |

But the government still has emergency powers to initiate changes...so one would think given the mini heatwave we are expecting that they would use them.
But hey why spoil their weekend off eh  |

We could has by using emergency powers. But with a fair amount of both Tory and labour MPs criticising the government on making decisions without debate they went this way.
Scotland have it a little easier there basically isn't an opposition to stop them. |

That does seem a valid reason,although we all know people are really going to make the most of this weekend,and be out socializing as if it's the last weekend ever
There is an explosive amount of statuses on fab that reflects this,the vanilla world too on eg Fb/insta/twit

Isn't it also odd that the Government announce new restrictions just when a sunny weekend is due? Has to be something in that really - doesn't there?

I'm not desperate for anything, I'm just passing on what I've been hearing on the phone-ins the past 3days, and now the BBC are pushing out news, on the hour, that the police are going to be playing "the 6" game this weekend. Which may or may not be true.... Maybe the media are desperate for Monday morning talking points... |

It's similar to the restrictions in Birmingham and some of the Black Country, which don't start until the start of the week. I can see that it's respectful of people making plans but a true emergency need would be implemented almost immediately, via existing frameworks. |

i know its because of the time it takes to go through parliament for law
in an adult society you would think we could say this is the new guideline that starts at midnight tonight and will come into law properly from monday , but we ask you follow the spirit of it immediately
but unfortunately we cant even get peopoe to follow the laws that are there let alone the spirit of some to come  |

you dont need to change the law to close pubs, local councils and licensing boards just remove their license to serve alcohol , plus at that point public support for a lockdown was high, remember the opinion of wetherspoons for trying to stay open? so people were more likely to comply from “peer pressure” impact |

I’m not in the pub business, but my own personal business had two days warning before the government cut it off at the knees, back in March. |

I was working in a theatet on the Monday when staff had to ask public to leave the auditorium as the show was not going ahead and the theater was now closing.
I thought that was bad but now looking back it would have been ok if we could now get back to work but don't know when. |
