So we need the government to constantly check up on us after our non essential travel abroad?

Can no one in this country take any responsibility for anything? We need spoon feeding and hand holding every step? Jeeze.

Unfortunately, many who should be in quarantine will feel aggrieved by the situation. If they think that they can get away with it, then they'll just not do it. If they know that they WILL be checked up on, then they may be less likely to take the risk.

Well done for following the rules though. Using common sense after your choice to travel abroad in the time of a world pandemic. At least you are not moaning about it and expecting to be told exactly what to do or have someone check up on you, glad your safe and well and not passing on this terrible disease.

Obviously not as we've had to employ marshals at the tax payers expense as none of us can be trusted to even stand in the right place, never mind quarantine

From a practical point of view that would work, but when people are already complaining about their civil liberties being eroded, maybe not a popular choice.

I think that they have stated that they only have the resources to contact a minority of travellers. This probably encourages some to take a chance on not isolating.

If everyone travelling from locations that are restricted, was tested on arrival and isolated until 1 or more subsequent tests, as is being done in Iceland and elsewhere, then we'd probably have a much higher level of adherence to isolation. Many would be happy to pay, to have a shorter period in isolation and without pay, if they can't work from home.

what i find interesting about this is i know someone that keeps sharing these posts about how she wants to bring up her (currently 5 year old) child by teaching her right from wrong, whats the moral thing to do and kinda go down that path rather than use punishment or fear of punishment for motivation for good behaviour

and yet here we are all generally accepting that unless grown adults have at least the fear that they will be checked up on and fined / punished, we couldnt possibly expect them to comply with rules

But a minority have already shown that they won't comply with the simplest of rules.

Perhaps if that minority had been introduced to responsibility and morality when they were younger, we wouldn't need laws and fines to deter people being self centred.

what’s sad is i dont even think it is a minority

everyone ive spoken to while here is of the mindset they just ignore quarantine or they lie about symptoms get a test then go out ... it’s disappointing that we have faith to teach 5 years olds right from wrong but supposed adults just do as they please

It is a fact that many people don't respect the rules(of anything) and when it is obvious that there are folk not quarantining as they should, there needs to be some way to encourage folk to abide by the law.

It would be great to live in a society where everyone does what they should, but currently if we didn't have laws & punishment then we would be over-run with theft, murder, violence, etc...

Thanks.

No wonder we’re seeing numbers rise seeing as so many selfish people are travelling unnecessarily. Socialising in large groups. Getting too close. Refusing to wear a mask. Blaming the government for everything.

Talk about a nanny state. Do people really find it so complicated? Keep your distance and keep the number of people you see to a minimum.

i wasnt suggesting we scrap rules laws or punishment. , just observing how poor it is that even with them in place people cant just do whats right and if they think they arent being observed the law is out the window

There should be no non-essential international travel until this situation has passed then people wouldn't have to quarantine.

Feel stupid now !, why oh why didnt i go down south ? the packed beaches ,no social distancing, no mask waering , packed pubs , in fact id be so much safer from this virus there !, instead i went to a country were mask waering iis madatory everywere, teperature checks in all shops etc , disposable gloves in supermarkets MUST be worn , people understand how to social distance there, my point was i fully adhered to the. Quarantine ruling , what worries me is i havent been checked on once, how many others havent quarantined because they no they wont be checked on ? And no im afraid adults CANNOT be trusted to do the right thing im afraid , thats why boris is forever changing the rules , dont pack beaches, dont pack pubs , dont be idiots whose attitude is " it will never happen to me !"

It has happened in france. They get a few fines that go up to €3000, then get tagged and slapped with a few weeks in prison if the violate the curfew.
