Scotland now has a working contact tracing app. What happened to England's "world beating" app?

Don't all you Englanders wish you had a government as competent as ours?

Just a bit of fun, I love the English really...well, most of them.

It is true though, we do have an app, and you don't even need to take my word for it, it's in the news.

Welcome to the club, if I understand correctly it's the same app that is used both in Ireland and N. Ireland.

I'm not certain that all your fellow countrymen would agree with you there, as I'm pretty sure many of them would actually prefer wee Nicola in charge instead of bumbling Boris.

No matter, you'll be free of us soon enough and won't have to worry about our begging bowl anymore than we'll need to worry about corrupt Tories.

It isn't an argument, it's a lighthearted discussion which you're under no obligation to join.

Forums are designed to offer a wide range of topics for debate and discussion. They don't have to be totally serious and nor do they have to be about sex.If you don't like this thread then I respectfully suggest that you move on to one that is more to your taste.

Or I can carry on commenting on whatever thread I feel? I think trying to draw a divide between Scotland and England is rather childish is all

Yup. It's NOT a Scottish App. It's the Google/Apple App.

No proof it works yet as they only launched on the 8th September.

Let's hope.

AFAIK its the same app that is used in N Ireland and Ireland. It has been running successfully since early july in Ireland and july 31 in N Ireland. There is just under 2 million downloads combined north and in Ireland. The Scottish app is compatible with NI and Irish apps. Aside from one android update that caused problems for 2 days, the app has been a proven working success. People have been alerted that they have been in close proximity to a positive case and advised to act accordingly. So I don't think you just have to hope. It's been a success from the start. Competent leadership may be an unknown to you given the experiences you have have with Mr Hancock and Dido, but rest assured it does exist.

That's not true. It's an app that uses technology from Apple/google. It uses the Exposure Notification API.

What you are saying is the same as building an application and then someone saying it's not your application, it microsoft or Oracle's because it uses their databases.

Different app but both built around the same exposure notification API and also uses the concept of codes once confirmed virus but the rest of the app and back end with have been built differently. I.e. different suppliers technologies and clouds.

Scotland contributes more per head to the UK than any region of the UK apart from London and the South East. If you dont like subsidising others then please have a look a little closer to home...

Scotland costs more to run than most areas of the uk because of its geographic layout. More miles of road per head that needs maintaining, services spread more widely etc. Unfortunately, Scotland has very little ability to self fund so will always have to be subsidised to some degree but to talk about begging bowls show such ignorance. No doubt a brexiter!

Very true..And the evidence.. Yougov

-----

Which country do you think has handled the coronavirus outbreak better between England and Scotland?

YouGov surveyed 3685 GB adults

Conducted Jul 23, 2020

England

10

%

Scotland

52

%

They have both handled it the same

24

%

Don’t know

14

%

-----

Cue the ignorant "they didn't ask me" or "it was only 3685 so not enough" or "they probably only asked the Scots" responses...

It was an English parliament that squandered the revenue from Scotlands oil, indirectly causing the downfall of UK manufacturing for the sake of electoral popularity.

Nope it's really NOT a Scottish App. Read up. It still uses the Covid Notification Framework (which I already posted).

The pages of the app are tailored to have pages on that relate to Scotland like 'Scottish Symbolism' or to put it another way if I wanted to commission a use of the app I could have pictures of Cats all over it but it would use the same Covid Notification Framework the same app Google/Apple framework that all the others use.

Little if today's technology is flawless. But with the worry of exponential increase isnt even 60% effective better than nothing ?

Sorry but you really are wrong apart form the bit where you are agreeing with me. Whilst using apple/google covid notification tech there is more to than just cosmetics as you are pointing out. The English app in development was put out to tender about 4 weeks ago. Suppliers then bid based on their own solutions built on apple/google technology. Whoever is building the English app is not using the same supplier who built the Scottish app. If it was I really would know...

Anyway, the word Framework gives it away. Just because an app is built on a framework it doesn't mean it's the same app as another built in the same framework.

Maybe we both have many years of experience in this field...Or maybe it's just me.
