Couple weeks ago a protest in london reached nearly 40,000 and the one planned for the 19th at Trafalgar square is expected to double that with lots of doctors and health care histle blowers on the roster as speakers.

It's not gone nearly far enough. People have been given enormous leniency when being politely asked to do the right thing. At every step a significant part of the population has proved they cannot be trusted to do the right thing on their own. The excuses ranging from poor to farcical. I'd rather join a protest that actually meant something and not born out of egotistical selfishness. Im a massive libertarian and have protested on many issues, proud when C and her daughter lay on the floor in the Street in silence for blm alongside many others .

We are lost with it you can only go to family house if there’s no more than six but you can go to pub with no more then a group of six but there can be like 30 groups of six in a pub or restaurant what’s the difference then. I doubt we will get to that stage where a full lockdown becomes necessary.

The reason these restrictions and measures are being put in place now, is to prevent the need for a national lockdown. You will always have the odd balls who seek to flout the rules, but I believe the majority will abide by them.

Someone doing the count must have had double vision! I was there by chance and it was a lot closer to 4000 than 40,000! There where many different groups with different protests! Anti-maskers, antivaccinators, hs2 protesters, vegan and animal rights activists, the free Julian Assange brigade and more. Plenty like me were just witnessing the spectacle from the periphery. All I can say is the mental health services are in need of more more funding!!

The government have predicted a second wave for Xmas now for a while now it's looking that way, I believe there will be a second lockdown, this time to protect the economy business will jot be told to close just a new restriction on socialising in private.

Given what we've seen yesterday and the reaction I can't see it going well, people's tolerance is only so much and I think we're somewhere near the end of compliance in the UK. I never thought I'd say it but I can see why some people are just getting on with daily life now. These restrictions nessesary are not are crippling us all in someway and for what. We've got nowhere.

I have to laugh at the BBC this morning. One article gloomily bangs on about global warming going into overdrive and that public opinion says we should ban the car in our city centres. Seems Covid is doing a pretty good job to do that and yet we are being encouraged to return to the office. FFS which is it to be. My brain is frying.

I think this is typical of the insanity that you allude to.

Maybe it's not such a big thing for a few million of us to get bumped off a bit early. Somebody said on another post it's a horrible way to go, gasping for air. In the end that's what we all end up doing when we die. I watched my dad doing it and it wasn't very nice but in the majority of cases it's how we all die doing the death rattle.

He was 80. We all have to die of something. Something has come along and is bumping us off. Can someone please stop this madness. It's a new natural way to die and is the planet's way of limiting our numbers a bit as we are exterminating 1000s of species every day just by existing.

The holiday may be important but our health is more important. It's reasonable to think that we're going to have rises in the infection levels and problems, on top of the normal winter health issues, so greater restrictions will be brought in, to suppress it, unless they have new ways of reducing it.

The economy seems top priority with schools being open atm, whilst they talk about many other things, including new ideas, to distract from the basics not being done right.

If testing and tracing isn't going to work soon, then we will struggle to get improvements, without major behavioural changes from the public.

There seems to be NOTHING SCIENTIFIC about the way in which the figures are being collected and interpreted.

A few days ago the chief scientific officer Patrick Vallance raised concern that the number of cases detected by testing was on the increase. Around the same time he also said that about 20% of the tests carried out were on people who were "NOT ENTITLED" because they did not show symptoms.

Here's the point.....

If you are only testing the people who are ill, is it really so surprising that you might you might find an increase in the numbers of ill people?

It's a bit like testing a bag of blue sweeties and being surprised to find how many contain blue colouring.

Not testing people who are asymptomatic (showing no symptoms) serves only to distort the findings.

So all the decisions are being made on this, at best faulty, if not false, information.

Data gathered in the way it is being leads to inaccuracies.

Viz.

People not going for a test leads to missing numbers.

People being excluded from testing leads to missing numbers.

Testing only the ones showing symptoms leads to exaggerated numbers.

How can accuracy be maintained in forming a true picture of the situation if a lot of the data is excluded.

It's akin to concluding that in the 20-30 yr age group the incidence of becoming pregnant is extremely small if you exclude the females of the species and therefore contraception is not required.

We need to be more scientific and objective in our outlook.

It IS still within his powers to close pubs and restaurants.

It's also possiblke for local restrictions to put in place by local councils to restrict opening hours for establishments.

BOLTON being an example of restricted trading hours for pubs and restaurants.

Of course the original lockdown was instigated on the modelling of Imperial college which some would say prevented the predicted death toll of 500,000.

We did implement lockdown so can not say if that was an accurate model of not.

The best country to judge the imperial college modelling is the post boy of the anti lockdown supporters is Sweden.

This is what they said about Sweden

Individual-_ased modelling of COVID-19 spread using Swedish demographics and

conservative epidemiological assumptions indicates that the peak of the number of

hospitalised patients with COVID-19 can be expected in early May under the current

strategy, shifted earlier and attenuated with more stringent public health measures.

- Healthcare needs are expected to substantially exceed pre-pandemic capacity even if the

most aggressive interventions considered were implemented in the coming weeks. In

particular the need for intensive care unit beds will be at least 40-fold greater than the prepandemic

capacity if the current strategy is maintained, and at least 10-fold greater if

strategies approximating the most stringent in Europe are introduced by 10 April.

- Our model predicts that, using median infection-fatality-rate estimates, at least 96,000

deaths would occur by 1 July without mitigation. Current policies reduce this number by

approximately 15%, while even more aggressive social distancing measures, such as

adding household isolation or mandated social distancing can reduce this number by more

In a nutshell they predicted that doing nothing ICU beds use would increase 40 fold current use, lockdown would reduce it to 10 fold.

They predicted a death toll of 96,000 by the 1st July with no mitigation, this could be reduced by 15% with the measures they eventually used. They predicted that implementing full lockdown like the rest of Europe would reduce that 96,000 by approximately 50%

Sweden famously didn't lockdown and have less than 9,000 deaths so far
