The 2nd wave now looking very likely to have begun . Inevitable rise in hospitalisations and deaths over the next few weeks and months although thankfully currently low. Are we back to square for nightclubs, clubs etc? Will they ever reopen after long months closed and such expenses incurred and hopes of reopening this year? Those people who thought social distancing may be a thing of the past by xmas, are in for a big shock - that looks a long way off again. Or are we gonna cope a lot better and continue to reopen businesses etc ? |

I think that we are going to have to get used to stricter, longer enforcement and see that the furlough isn't enough unless it's extended and enlarged
We would be well advised to pay people fully for quarantine, as they are the most likely to pass infection om if they are needing to get money via working, especially younger people who have no symptoms |

This..
Ironic that a large swathe of the people who will be ok with the virus/ asymptomatic and be forced into working are the ones in society on zero hours contracts with all the wrongs therein .. |

I think nightclubs/parties just need to be banned till at least mid 2021 yes some will go to the wall its sad but inevitable though its not the clubs fault its the dimwits who go and don't socially distance (if thats even possible) in the clubs. |

They theoretically could be opened with social distancing measures, but its not financially viable for the nightclubs to operate with the numbers they could admit. Now work place bubbles could theoretically hire a whole restaurant/pub for Xmas parties... |

Everything will be open by the end of the year, you can't keep the social economy shut down for a virus that isn't killing more than flu, influenza, and other shutdown related stuff.
Also lockdown social dysfunction is growing bigger by the day...
I listen to the left on the phone-ins every night tyring to hijack covid, and keep shut down going indefinitely, they even tried it on regarding schools but failed. |

The second wave the second wave, sounds like the guy from Fantasy Island, and thats what this all is Fantasy. We haven't had a first wave ffs, 99.5% of the UK, and even the world has not had Covid 19. 99.9% of the world population HAS NOT died from Covid 19, so its not even been a ripple. Unfortunately people have died from it and that tragic for the families, but 150 000 die every day in the world, Covid 19 only account for 1-2,000 of the deaths. Its a virus that unfortunately can kill, just like the flu. If we keep running scared the outcome will kill many many more than Covid ever did, Unemployment, Poverty, and mental health kill far more daily than Covid 19 and will continue to do so unless we all get back to work and get the world moving again. Otherwise it will end up like Victoria in Australia. |

"If we get hammered by a second coronavirus wave it will be in the national flu time frame which isn't too far off. "
Looking at the news, 2nd wave is already starting.
Highest infection rates in the 20-30 age group.
School returns should impact within 2-3 weeks.
If we don’t have a huge jump by then, I’ll be switching camps and joining the Covid deniers. |

The latest uk figures for a week in Aug 20 showed 152 covid19 deaths v 1019 flu and pneumonia deaths.
Note hand washing, masks, social distancing works to bring both covid19 and flu infection rates down (and that's a good thing).
So yes it's clear covid19 is here to stay as is the flu and other diseases and if anything at present is the less deadly of the 2 in terms of actual deaths.

I think the stark reality is that the country cannot financially afford a second lock down. Extending furlough just isn’t a viable option. My best guess is we will end up with special measures in place to protect those deemed as being “at risk” and everyone else will have to get on with life. |

Well, the second wave fearmongers won't like this,
just in:
Number of excess deaths in England and Wales remain higher than average for the third week running - but not because of #coronavirus, ONS figures show.

There has been a domino effect going on since the start of the pandemic. Once the first countries locked down, it became virtually impossible for the rest of the world not to do so. Death rates are now low. This country should continue with local lockdowns where necessary. |

I know you are trying to make a point. But your glee in the fact that we have death rates higher than average is thoughtless to say the very least. Show a bit of class. |

We went to a club in the South of England and my word, 300 ppl at lease... No social distancing at all... But come on people it's only serious if you haven't got a good immune system.. And Us sluts are well known for our happy and healthy look on life... Don't even think the 2nd wave will do anything... It was always obvious the schools re-opening were going to do it.. |

If you were expecting a first wave of a tsunami proportion, no we haven't, but that's not quite what the scientists were predicting (providing we locked down, which we did). We have had the first wave and the odd ripple (think of the local lockdowns).
More waves? Hopefully through the majority of society complying with current measures, no. |

this second wave has been coming since April, predicted by the dame experts who are treating a second wave now.
Whilst its true that positive tests are rising, its also true that a lot of these are false positives as well.
The second wave has been and gone, what we have now is remnants.

Saying 99.9% of the world hasn’t died from Covid is misleading. It’s like saying there is a small forest fire happening but the rest of the forest (99.9%) hasn’t burned down so it’s fine. The fire hasn’t reached that 99.9% yet and it will if you let it run loose.

I work in hotel Management. In recent weeks, there's been a surge of enquiries from younger people all seeking to book party rooms.
We've stuck to Govt guidelines and refused to take bookings for up to 100 people, as we simply couldn't accommodate that number on the grounds of Socially distancing everyone.
But the abuse that's followed when we've said NO, typifies what some of the younger age groupings just don't comprehend.
Same as some younger guests staying in our hotel. There's no distancing from others, nor are they likely to follow simple ground rules to keep everyone safe around the building.
Put it this way, one couple recently ranted, "what are you worried about, you've got insurance!"
Well, our staff would certainly be happy to hear that's what a guest thinks is proper. Why should we bother to put in rules to safeguard ourselves & our business against eejits like that who don't care? |

You can when a large proportion of the country is terrified. We have a populist government at the moment not left or right wing. Whatever the majority of the country wants that's what the government will do. As that is what will keep them in power. |

Main news just on the BBC now. Birmingham going into some kind of lockdown because there are 80 cases per 100,000 now in Birmingham.
Shock, Horror that's a massive 0.8% of the population of Britain's second largest city. The whole thing has gone mad. |
