OK, apologies if this has been done to death but I think this is a slightly different take on it.
I know there are a few who want to stay safe and are anti going back to school. And I know there's a lot who have been desperate to get the kids become but for me yesterday it became personal and relevant. Don't need to be having that debate again. They are back.
My lad, who is a big bruiser, clever and self sufficient. Admitted he was anxious about going back, saying he was happy with the way things have been and had no idea how he would cope going back for the first time after 6 months. It painted the whole thing in a different light for me.... I'd never even considered that the kids may be having their own issues about returning. Did others experience this too? |

I've got 3 going back tomorrow.
Year 10 year 9 and one still in primary in year 5. All chilled about it and looking forward. They all went for a few days/weeks back in July so know what to expect regarding the changes to the set up etc. Definitely in their best interests to go back to school   |

In my case I'd been asking the question and he'd always said... In that teenage macho way... "yeah no worries" but when it came to it... It has been troubling him...
To your point re transmissions... With such stupidly high numbers in the community now... Im with you. I thinks its going to be far from straight forward. |

Not much you can do if you ask a teenager how they're feeling about things and they just grunt.
Everyone is in the same boat I suppose. It's just as worrying for people going back into work. Support each other. |

No we don't right now. We need to continue with local lockdowns where cases are high
Spare a thought for the people dying of other things because they couldn't or didn't get treatment due to the restrictions. And also all the people killing themselves because they can't cope with the Coronavirus situation.
There are a lot more vunerable people out there than the ones you keep ordering us to protect. |

My lad goes back Thursday and he can’t wait to see his friends and have the school routine.
He’s fully aware of everything that has been put in place for them to make them have a safe and productive learning space. Everyone, if they wish to do so, can wear a mask. There are also extra counsellors available for all to talk about the last 6 months and how they are feeling now on return. All classes will have the same form teacher they had last year (normally changes) but they wanted familiarity on all sides for various reasons. The school has done a great job.
His only doubt was he may bring it home to me, I just said it’s no different than when we go food shopping, we have our routine when we return and you will do the same returning from school

My kids were excited but one of my twins who is 10, he came out of school on Friday looking ready to burst, his face was red and full of pressure. He said he had to run and get out of there, its like a prison he said 
He has become so used to his freedom and now has gone back to a school that is very strict on everything, so different to the school he knew.
He wants to be home schooled. I wish I could  |

My kids both went back to school on Thursday last week, today we had a confirmed case. They go to a small village school so I hoped that would make things safer but obviously not. Luckily the case wasn’t in either of my kids bubbles but it’s still worrying that they have one after just 2 days. |

Some of the children are vulnerable and at risk in other ways.
I refuse to allow you to shame myself and other people because we are doing what needs to be done in shitty circumstances. Our children need school and your constant badgering of anyone who says they are doing something you disagree with is tedious and unnecessary. |

My eldest (10) got upset yesterday. Second day back in School and given a maths test which he did poorly in (worst in class) and it’s totally ruined his confidence for going back to School.
I don’t know whether it was a “to see where they are at” test or something else, but I’m not fucking impressed it was done on the 2nd day of returning to School.
His words to me were: “I work better with you teaching me mum because you don’t shout at me”.

Think a big part of the problem is everywhere kids are being told they are gonna be anxious while many aren't and are enjoying being back. Some schools are over cautious sending kids home if they have a cold then refusing to have them back unless they have a letter stating they have been tested and are negative. It's getting ridiculous. |

What if the kid themselves is in that category? No one is talking about that in the system..We have one & a younger sibling.in the same school.
They go back tomorrow if they come home & tell us bad news about how it’s being controlled in school then fuck knows what we do with both of them

Cough twice and they’re home ..... test the child and stay home until the test result. If negative then all good if positive the whole bubble needs to isolate for 14 days ..... it will be the Hokey Cokey this term. Arguably a lots more disruptive than home learning. |

What have pubs got to do with schools. How will closure of pubs be helpful to schools?
As many vulnerable people as possible ARE being helped

What's a recovery plan? Nope never heard of it... Never seen it... I'd imagine there will be behavioural issues with some of the kids.... They've had free rein for 6 months after all and now they have to sit down and listen to teacher. I'd also imagine it's going to challenge a lot of the teachers strategies too. Be interesting to know how the keybworkers kids who have carried on with school teaching throughout compare with those who've been home "schooled" for 6 months. Kids are remarkably resilient and adaptable but it's going to be a roller coaster ride for sure. Also surprised not to see more teacher training adverts as surely we will need more teachers?

I have tried headmaster drs social local school authority hospital.
Everyone says it's someone else who works family.
.
So how do you do it.
Check grandma reports last wed or Thursday a very vulnerable woman was distraught as no one wil engaged with her. |

The parents of the child will have to find alternative arrangements. Maybe do a childcare share with other parents, possibly a non vulnerable relative, a friend, a neighbour etc. There are options.

According to the Welsh Gov we cannot take our kids out of school unless officially going down the home schooling route ie no support unlike when schools closed.
Unofficially the school have already earmarked our kids as vulnerable & have already said that working from home with their help is an option & they will support our choice 100%
Add to that the very low rates in our part of Wales & the kids need to socialise with their friends & it’s like a rock & a hard place.
But ours will return tomorrow but it is currently not conducive to a good nights sleep

You can’t do a childcare share schools are specifically asking children not to arrive in multiple household cars. Can’t use grand parents if over the age of 70. There isn’t many options I’m afraid if you de register your child in most cases schools are going for an attendance order straight away. |

The assumption that anyone wants to do free childcare at this time is also a pretty big ask. Childminders are reducing numbers drastically as are breakfast and after school clubs as they have to maintain the children in their school bubbles or provide strict social distancing. |

According to the Welsh Gov we cannot take our kids out of school unless officially going down the home schooling route ie no support unlike when schools closed.
Unofficially the school have already earmarked our kids as vulnerable & have already said that working from home with their help is an option & they will support our choice 100%
Add to that the very low rates in our part of Wales & the kids need to socialise with their friends & it’s like a rock & a hard place.
But ours will return tomorrow but it is currently not conducive to a good nights sleep

That was kind of my point, if the parents don't want to put their vulnerable family members at risk they will find alternative arrangements or have to home school their children.

Key worker children weren’t being taught last term they were playing games - educational games yes but mostly outside and never sitting at a desk. It’s was childcare not education. |

Children are together in year group bubbles at my daughter's school, I would happily help out with my friends daughter if I was needed as she's in the same year group as my child.

Schools will close again not all at once but I’d be willing to bet a fair chunk of money than most if not all children will have to isolate at least once this term. The distribution and uncertainly isn’t good at all. A blended learning approach would have been more consistent and safer for all. |

If the benefits continue then yes - I don’t foresee it being plain sailing - I fear the disruption won’t help anyone. That’s aside from the current increase in cases - it’s a fine balancing act and we are now on the edge and not even into the middle of September yet. Common tells you it will get worse before it gets better. |

In my household I can say it won’t be, outside of that everyone needs to make their own choices on how they manage interaction with others.
The children cannot stay home until a solution is found for this, it isn’t going anywhere soon and we all need to learn to adapt to the new way of living |

"My lad goes back Thursday and he can’t wait to see his friends and have the school routine.
He’s fully aware of everything that has been put in place for them to make them have a safe and productive learning space. Everyone, if they wish to do so, can wear a mask. There are also extra counsellors available for all to talk about the last 6 months and how they are feeling now on return. All classes will have the same form teacher they had last year (normally changes) but they wanted familiarity on all sides for various reasons. The school has done a great job.

I'm not sure the govt have ever said there will be no issues have they?
I think schools would be more stable if we as a population had followed the guidelines and reduced the prevalence of the virus in our communities. But some people... An increasing number have made choices not to and that means more infections in more schools to contend with. Perhaps now is a better time of year to be infected than in damp cold flu months of Dec and January though?
If there was a gcse in common sense I'm not sure how many would scrape through. |
