Face masks are becoming trendy, expensive even, another addition to those that have and those who have not, it's socially distancing snobbery is it not? "

"Same with water. Capitalism, value or perception of value sells"
Agree, but how does it sit with you during a pandemic? I mean that juxtaposition where health and safety is exchanged for fashion? |

Is it exchanged or is it combined?
If it offers the same protection then I really don't care. |

How are we exchanging our health for fashion? We are still wearing the masks. |

I work in H&S and I have purchased a few masks of the prettier variety. They weren't particularly expensive or designer. (purely because I'm not into brands) I see no issue with it. |

Being pragmatic about it, if designer branding is what it takes for some people to feel comfortable wearing a mask then so be it.
The brands involved wouldn't want to tarnish their brand reputation by selling a mask that wasn't as effective as a bog standard one, so I don't really see that as a problem. |

See, a North Face face mask is a covering at £19.99. If they produced an N95 designer mask at that price then fair does but they don't, none of them do. Do you think they should? They're big multinationals who easily could and be contributing to the pandemic effort.

None of the designer ones I’ve seen are KN95 certified , in fact since lockdown was lifted hardly anyone wears KN95 anymore. |

They're businesses first and foremost.
I'm certainly no expert in these things, but pictures I've seen of N95 masks are probably a bit difficult to make on a standard production line. |

If there's a problem with this then it's not really snobbery, it's the inequality that unfettered capitalism leads to.
Some people have so much money they'll spend it on logos, others can barely afford food. |

Also used an older north face top to make my son one x

I think it's daft, but it's not high on my list of problems.
My masks look like nappies. I couldn't give a toss They were the best fabric composition I could find given the understanding of masks when I bought them. |

Because some people like to wear nice things and take pride in their appearance
Wearing a piece of blue plastic paper is functional as is wearing a bin liner to work.

Surely the money would be better spent on a mask that protected you and other better. In this case its not a simple matter of what looks good and what designer brand it is. Surely we should all be getting the best mask we can afford and is most suitable for ourselves. I'm not sure about anyone else put I have tried that many now and I dislike all but one. If these designer ones are better and are more comfortable for myself I'll happily purchase one. If not then one of the many I've got lying around will do. |

Masks do little to protect you, it’s all about protecting others |

"None of it matters. They’re wearing a mask.
It will very marginally improve your safety. "
Of course it matters.
Even if wearing a mask stops the spread a tiny amount, its all we've got at the moment. |

"Some people prefer wearing designer gear, why should a mask be any different to another item. If it makes them feel happy wearing it then life's too short for me to be concerned"
Iv seen some lovely silk masks.
I think im going to get one, if iv got to wear one I may as well wear something pretty. |

I mean it doesn’t matter what the mask is.
Surgical is fine. Fabric is fine. Neoprene is fine. A buff is fine. A gimp mask is fine.
The face coverings are there to prevent coughing and sneezing and to reduce the size of your potential contamination bubble. |

It probably matters to a point but what matters most if it's doing the thing.
I tried to choose based on my understanding of fabric composition and what it'd do to help. But for most people it's just covering your germ hole. It really doesn't matter what it looks like. Why not make it pretty? Wearing a mask sucks, let's make it suck less. |

"I feel like I’m arguing here but I’m agreeing!
I colour coordinate mine "
I'm not being argumentative either.
I might get pretty ones at some stage. At the moment my face nappies plus holy hell eyeshadow works |

People have designer clothes, bags, shoes and what have you, masks are here to stay and if you have the cash to splash on them, I don't see a problem, as long as they are being worn! Much better that a coop plastic bag I saw that was fashioned into a mask earlier (that was by no means tight over this person's face)

Is it any different to branded vs unbranded steel toe cap safety boots, for example? Mine aren't designer, but are made from nice fabric. I decided if I'm going to be wearing them regularly, I'd like it to at least look half decent. |

Because it hasn't been mandated to wear a KN95. You can't beryl making masks on a delapidated singer sewing machine to supplement her woeful state pension ain't making KN95 standard masks. It's just face coverings we have been advised to wear. If people want to spend their money on designer ones who are they hurting really? |

If I'm working I grab a work mask out of the van if I'm going somewhere that needs one, I have hundreds of them, could sell then and quite possibly retire! Wife works in a pharmacy, same applies If we're not working we resort to our fab masks (way special fab branded), we have sod all to prove with bragging rights lol |

I'm glad that I've started to wear glasses too this year. Whilst masks possibly prevent the wearer from transmission of the virus to others, I'm hoping glasses may add a little protection for me.
Let others be free to do their thing to keep us all safer, whether they choose to buy designer or not |

Eye protection also matters, I've heard.
My masks include a donation to the performing arts. |
