I've been and planning on going away again soon. Not sure its bragging as a) it's cheaper than going away in this country.. and b) I went somewhere with a lower rate of infection than here x

I have been away. I don’t exactly brag about it but as long as you play by the rules and quarantine if needed I don’t see an issue.

I’m going away in November to a place with a much lower rate of infection and will be tested before and after.

But the biggest risk has got to be the flight surely?

I agree live is for living, especialy in these crap times, but surely your own health is more important, if u go some where that low or no infections great but with cap d age heavily infected now parts of GC is getting worse, we love and miss our hols in GC had 2 cancelled so move next one to next yr, and as said airports and planes has got to be main infectous route for spreading, but if u r getting away, take care and be safe.

The risk of catching Covid is far outweighed by the positive benefits in your immune system from having a holiday, especially one in the sun. Unless you were recommended to shield.

We've quite a few booked between now and next may

We’re in Greece, not bragging just saying , it’s perfect , less crowds, easier to park, easier to haggle, have a few more trips booked in between now and end Oct too. I think you’re more at risk on a UK bus or Wetherspoons than here tbh

There has been something on the news today about a restaurant in south Korea.

It only had air conditioning.

One person infected all the other 23 guests as he was sat directly beneath the air con.

The 4 members of staff didn't get infected as they wore face masks.

Now tell me masks have no benefit

But no way will I be doing 2x7 hour flights to get to my destination armed with just a mask

Planes are only as full as pubs but everyone on the plane has to wear a mask so risk reduced.

We flew at the weekend from here to the UK and it was no problem.

Lots of naked noses on show and cabin crew asked for people to buzz if they want the toilet which some ignored but overall no problem at all.

Ah but it's a lottery to what level it effects each person.

Plus while he had no symptoms when he was tested.. I've not seen anywhere how it progressed with him.

Except that’s wrong - he caught it in Europe and flew home with it - you wouldn’t test positive getting off a plane if you caught it on it - it takes time for the RNA to be made to test positive

I see some of the posters on here are some of the most vocal about draconian measure to be taken to combat the disease.

Strikes me as being rather hypocritical having a go at someone for not wearing their mask properly or supporting teachers for resisting going back to school and then jetting off to Timbuktu where the risk you are introducing to the country far outweigh a humble shopper in the local shopping centre whose nose is hanging out over the top of their mask.

I've been on a few planes this past week and all were sedate affairs - boarding in sensible style, from the back of the plane forwards, a couple of rows at a time. People stayed seated, with masks on the whole time, apart from when drinking.

The airports were quiet and very organised - I was very impressed. I was glad to be away, in safer places.

People have probably been expressing some of their relief, after an emotionally anxious trip, with a lot of uncertainty. Some people will always brag, they like to

Everyone is a little different and managing as they can, perhaps knowing the uncertainty of their job, health, family and friends in the near future.

I'd have loved to go away this year, but work and then pre op isolation, surgery and now recovery and then straight back to work means it's not happening. And yes, having spent the past month either at home or in the hospital, I am sick of reading about people's holidays. I don't begrudge them the hol, I'm just jealous. I haven't had more than a day off work as leave since December 2019 and now this fortnight off involved having my vagina sliced and diced. It's hardly relaxing and I'm going to have to hit the ground running next week. Absolutely no proper break or downtime in view for a whole calendar year - forgive me for not wanting to see your holiday snaps

"Got a holiday booked for India next year end of Feb for 2 weeks will it go a head ?"

I heard the rural areas of India are getting quite bad, but largely unreported due to the remoteness of it.

I went Indonesia in Jan/Feb at the beginning of the pandemic, I saw more mask use in Heathrow than I ever have before, I was checked for temperature going into Indonesia, a basic check, but a check, on returning to Heathrow a month later in mid February and all there was was a few sheets of laminated A4 asking people to seek medical attention if showing symptoms. I missed getting stuck in a remote part of Indonesia by a matter of weeks, some other Europeans were stuck there for a few months as there were no internal flights to the area. I was quite jealous of them, I'd have quite liked to be told I'm stuck on holiday...

I’d feel safer on a plane with everyone wearing masks and the filters they have on board , than in my local Tesco’s with hardly anyone wearing masks touching items they I may pick up , and not sticking to the two metre rule , or the pub or the high street or even public transport, planes are safer than all of the above

People take their masks off to eat and drink but then put them back on. Flight attendants tell people to put their masks back on if they remove it when not eating or drinking. People aren't allowed to board without a mask. That's the same on both the long and short haul flights I've been on this month, with different airlines.

Gosh, I wish this was enforced elsewhere. I'm going to be working with colleagues who've worn the same bloody mask to commute to work, in the corridors and then home again. Aseptic technique needs to be taught in public information films on TV and online.

This and you have to change your mask after 4 hours so take extra masks "

Also wear them for a bit before you go so you can find out how breathable they are. Nothing worse than being stuck on a plane with a tight mask that makes it difficult to breathe.

Not in tbe slightest bit envious of those who are going away this summer and I wish them all the very best.

However, I have zero sympathy or patience for anyone that bitches about self isolation rules changing while they are away.

I hope that is not pointed at me.

As I've asked a question on this thread about how longhaul flights are managed out of interest. I have also said I will be going nowhere until next spring at least.

Me too! It'a such a shame having to do a 14 day iso. While others are still playing the corona game. Like losing jobs, reduced pay as in Fourlough, getting the virus, loss of life due to virus, losing loved ones due to virus, funerals where loved ones can't attend due to the virus. The list gose on. Such a 1st world problem having to self iso for 14 days after a holiday.

No, I've not been on holiday this year, even as a staycation.

"Seeing a fair few brags about foreign holidays in local feed lately. Not sure I would get on a plane this year

I've been and planning on going away again soon. Not sure its bragging as a) it's cheaper than going away in this country.. and b) I went somewhere with a lower rate of infection than here x

But the biggest risk has got to be the flight surely?"

The flight and the airport.

and mask wearing is more prevalent and in italy they are very strict on mask wearing and even the type of mask. So much safer than the supermarket

Place has lower infection rate? It's the flight that's the problem not the place, 100+ in a confined space but same people object to going to local pub or meeting for a social? Baffling.

planes have filters in the aircon. Masks are worn completely.. I've been to pubs though. And met friends for socials ... I've been out pretty much every day since all this started. Not had the luxury of staying in.

If people want to go on holiday abroad they have to accept there is a real possibility they will ha e to isolate upon returning.

I'm seeing a lot moan about this, but they all know the risks and must accept the situation can change while on holiday too and plans change. Its part of sitting in a metal tube for hours with strangers packed in like sardines.

You knew the score so just accept the consequences.

No different from the big cock braggers though. As for going on holiday well its a risk but is it any more of a risk than staying in the uk going to certain areas for a UK holiday? Maybe maybe not who is to say though people are in the main only going to countries with a lower R number than the UK.

It's not about the country your going to being a lower risk then here is it...its the getting to the country that's the biggest risk...

Had 2 cancelled holidays this year so been trying to rearrange the one with the girls.

I would get on a plane as live alone, wfh and could isolate.

1 of the girls has a partner with stage 3 kidney disease. The other is a very high BMI with severe asthma and sleep apnea.

We have just booked a cabin in Northumberland for a week instead

Just not worth the risk.

I must have a miserable life then as I go away to italy 3 or 4 times a year because its cheaper than a weekend away in the uk and I always go for things we dont have here. Like active volcanoes...

I've just come back and away again in a few weeks..and spending my birthday away in Italy too. Do I need the holiday abroad... no possibly not... but I enjoy it. And last year my 8 day trip around italy cost me less than 400 quid all in.

I was meant to go to Sorrento this year

Went somewhere else instead but can’t wait to go to Italy.

If I’m able to travel then I’m going to travel it’s as simple as that.

You say in other forum threads, that you don't mind,or are not bothered about people wearing masks in shops.

How can you slate people for going on holiday?

Which side of the fence you on?

Or,you sit on it?

Essex.

We have decided not to go away this year and possibly next year as well.

We have decided to spend the money on the garden instead.

So we will be building a nice little room for a hot tub, a patio at the bottom of the garden, re-do the patio behind the house, brick built bbq/ pizza oven for starters.

We did treat ourselves to one of those Lazy spa hot tubs to see us through until we get a proper hot tub in a year or two.

That’s your choice. It’s also others choice to go on holiday if they want.

If people are happy to put their lives on hold indefinitely then that’s up to the then but some of us have some living to do.
