I sort of know what you mean .Since Covid No one that I know of has had normal flu they have all had Covid without actually being tested for it ..I can’t see how people can say they have had or have Covid without ever being tested.

"It’s strange how a contagious disease doesn’t spread when everyone is either locked down or increasing hygiene and keeping away from others."
Even stranger is why hasnt lock downs and mandated face masks and social distancing been put in place every single winter/flu season for decades to save the hundreds of thousands of people that die every flu season globally.
Answer me that?

We're talking about this as if it's bad news. Surely if the number of deaths from covid are dropping that's brilliant news?
Secondly, but dad, rest his soul, had a long battle with cancer but died of pneumonia. Sometimes deaths don't make it convenient for us to categorise so we can have an intellectual wank about it after the fact. |

I had Covid symptoms in late march, first week of lockdown. And I can tell you it is not like flu. I didn't have a fever but I had the cough and breathlessness for 7 weeks. There was no testing available then, so don't even know if that was Covid or not. It was ghastly though and I couldn't hold a conversation without starting to cough for most of that time. |

So you're trying to say flu has been around for millions of years? You'd be right in stating microbes have been around since the dawn of time on earth. You could be right in saying SOME pathogens have been around that long. However, any virus of the RNA genome will not have been around that long. The genome is unstable and so mutates (evolves).
I'm happy to elaborate a bit more if needs be. |

And so you should because I've noticed on here over the past months reading these forums you add absolutely nothing to most threads and just resort to some kind of negative retort or insult.
Kinda like your latest post about somthing to do with a copy and paste or what ever nonsense you come up with.
How about answering my question with some actually intelligent input insteae of simply "pandemic" what is that supposed to even mean?
So your saying hundreds of thousands of lives each year that could be saved if every flu season we was to mandate social distancing, masks, ect, but we dont because its not a "pandemic"??
So those hundreds of thousands of deaths globally from flu that could be vastly reduced, are not because its not a pandemic.
Yeah what ever either give a more intelligent response or in future dont both even replying and from now on every single insult or retort to antagonize a forum poster that i see i shall report it every single time until the mods on here see what you are like and do somthing about it. |

Ignoring the war of words but responding to the other bits...
You make a good point regarding improving hygiene and safe distancing to reduce flu (and other contagious / infectious disease deaths).
In my limited experience I have seen over the years a mostly decreasing attention to hygiene standards... Both personally and in hospitals. How much, if at all that leads to spread of disease I have no idea but common sense would suggest it will not help. So if nothing else the increased hygiene and consciousness of where our hands have been and wiping down of surfaces, increased use of ppe etc has got to be a good thing....if we maintain them. |

I hope you're not implying sanitation and hygiene standards were low pre Cv19. Some of the worst culprits of not adhering to infection control policies are doctors (sources: infection control specialist nurse and self as a patient in an isolation room when doctor brought in wheeled cabinet of tools for inserting cannulae, taking bloods and blood gasses etc - instead of making up an aseptic ready trolley of required items). |

Exactly that... Its one example... I've witnessed staff sneeze then put hands on a patient, not clean down beds between patients, examine one patient then move directly to another patient and examine them, empty or missing hand sanitizer stations, over crowded waiting rooms that are poorly cleaned, staff wearing work clothes on tube and bus then wearing the same uniform to treat patients with no ppe between them and whatever has been carried in on their uniform... And so on... And that's before you talk about patients traipsing in with filthy shoes / clothing, or being knowingly ill and going to work to spread to colleagues... The list is endless... If this has taught us all to be a bit more mindful of how we spread disease... That's a good thing. |

The typical flu season is approaching, as our warmer season tails off. That we've not been within our main period for flu will help to explain its lower visibility. The improved hygiene measures on average, with social distancing etc will have helped to suppress some infectious diseases from spreading, as someone highlighted .
In contrast with the spring 2020 covid-19 point, we are now testing for it - back then, people were informed to isolate without testing, unless admitted to hospital.
The 2019 flu deaths were 1,223 for England and Wales - I don't know the other national figures. Numbers vary by year.
The great difference between flu and covid-19 is that flu may be prevented by vaccines, in addition to hygiene measures etc. A larger immunisation programme is planned for this winter flu season.
An aspect of some viruses and humans is that infection with 1 virus can displace other viral infections, preventing simultaneous infection. The mechanisms of this are not fully understood. Alongside this, the UK winter season typically has a sequence with which the same infections repeat each year, typically starting with common colds. We don't yet know how covid-19 infection levels may alter our sequence of winter infections, if at all, nor which - if any of them - might be involved in viral displacement in any way.
This new virus and its effects on us is obviously something that we don't know that much about just yet. Neither do we know if our predicted flu strains included in the 2020 vaccines are going to match the actual ones that are prevalent this year - that will obviously influence the level of flu infection that takes hold here.
Will you be having the flu vaccine? Its NHS availability is broadened this winter. It's also available typically in pharmacies, for about £10 - 15. The greater the levels of vaccination, the closer the country is to achievement of herd immunity, which is great, as it helps to protect those unable to have the vaccine, as well as potentially reducing the impact on the NHS. |

If this has taught us all to be a bit more mindful of how we spread disease... That's a good thing. "
If staff wear uniforms outside the hospital then they should be wearing a long coat over it. Community staff obviously have to wear it.
If you see poor standards in the hospital, report them at the time. Infection control is mandatory (annual) training. Policies are strict re jewellery (no wrist watch or jewelled rings - only one plain band), clothing above elbow, step by step hand-washing, use of ppe etc. |

"It’s strange how a contagious disease doesn’t spread when everyone is either locked down or increasing hygiene and keeping away from others.
Even stranger is why hasnt lock downs and mandated face masks and social distancing been put in place every single winter/flu season for decades to save the hundreds of thousands of people that die every flu season globally.
Answer me that?
Pandemic.
Plandemic
I submit to such stunning reasoning.
You need to look further into what I post then. If you do you’ll see lots of posts where I give figures about the infection rate of Covid in the U.K..
Then again it’s not something you appear to be taking seriously going off your plandemic comment.
I like your posts, you seem very intelligent and articulate "

Covid is NOT flu."

Next you'll be telling me that people in the UK don't die of heatstroke in December... |

I had covid 19 early April and I have had worse flu.

Wtf? You do realise asbestosis is not a communicable disease, neither is lead poisoning. No wonder you don't believe a virus can be contagious. Knowledge to you is what words are to dyslexics, and numbers to dyscalculics.

Most flu like symptoms will mean you have to self isolate for 10 days. Whether or not social distancing will help prevent the spread of the common cold or flu this winter remains to be seen. Think about how many people every winter that you know get a cold or the flu. It's usually a lot, whether the a cold or covid who is to know with symptoms ranging so much between people. I know I wouldn't fancy queuing next to some one coughing or sneezing all over the place this winter. |

Both of my daughters (12 & 16) and the neighbour’s kids have had it as have a number of their friends. There is no evidence whatsoever that any particular demographic is more likely to contract C-19. And how do you imagine it’s possible to create a virus that know’s how old or what ethnicity you are? |

Lead and asbestos are toxic substances but you have to be exposed to certain forms and I assume toxicity also depends on the amounts, for example, asbestosis has been found in people who worked with the stuff historically. It cannot be compared to a virus.
CV 19 exposure does NOT differentiate between demographics BUT people's immune systems do differ according to age, gender, status (class, employment, education), environment and perhaps ethnicity. I state perhaps because I'm not aware if the difference between Caucasian and BAME is their immune system or something else.
God knows why I'm typing this out cos you'll only peddle more trash. |
