Today the first sports venue opened for limited fans since lockdown. Surrey vs middlesex allowed 1000 members in to watch the match. A good sign of progress?

Friday will be the first indoor one at the crucible, looking at the seating plan it looks like they may have Negotiated a 75% capacity, bubbles of 4 space 3 space 2 space and the odd single, Andrew Lloyd webber won't be happy, he was offering something similar last week for his theatre and it got poo pooed. |

Last Sunday there were 7000 Leeds United fans in Millennium Square |

Actually... if you look at it from a science point of view, its the perfect place to do an open air crowd experiment, to see how transmission will flow in crowds.
If it is low then other open air stadiums will have the courage to open.
But we won't know until people have been tested. |

"The difference between the Leeds and other gatherings and these sporting events is that there were no allocated tickets with security.. "
I agree. the free for all gatherings couldn't be counted as a valid group meeting scenario, we need to test how to open other things safely, so people will attend and feel secure.
The 2m social distancing was the start of it, now we are down to 1 plus and we have time to see what happens. We are learning more and more about this disease on a daily basis |

1000 people in an outdoor 20000 capacity stadium is going to be nothing anyway....
there is the wag in me that wanted to say if this had been a county championship game you wouldn't have gotten a thousand people in anyway!!!
i don't mind an outdoor facility running at a 20-25% capacity because that would give people the natural ability to social distant anyway.... as long as everyone doesn't turn up/try to leave at the same time..... |
