Recently I’ve been laid off work because I didn’t feel safe going back when they opened again last month, now I’ve lost my job and have to survive on my own... long story short I’m fucked. Not going to ask if anyone else has been let go but I am going to ask how bad it is in your area thanks to Covid

Redundancies all over the place here. It's shit.

Hope you find something new and better. X

Thank you. It’s going to be hard in the current climate but we can hope x

No difference that I can tell yet but I'd guess it'll be just like normal that those willing to work will have work and those not really willing will find a reason not to work.

Because i work in agriculture its been a necessity to be in work no matter what the case. However, i have often felt disappointed or angry during lockdown how people have treated it as a holiday by the amount of people who have been out in the countryside or doing other things they normally wouldnt have done during a working week.

I am sorry for those who have lost their jobs and i hope they find employment as soon as possible but please think about the people who have had no choice to work.

I’ve worked through as essential key worker

Fu*ks my goat the idiots coming off furlough 3/6 weeks blocks from having the time of there lives in hot tubs & bbq & party’s while I’ve been keeping there jobs alive

I’m not moaning as we’re lucky to have work but at the same time I wish they’d shut up about it as I’ve been working through to keep operations & jobs secure.

Should have just gone back to work then you would have a job.

perfect answer and 100% correct to many people trying to come up with excuses not to work.

Ao you expect them to be cooped up just because you have to go to work?!

I've worked all the way through as well but can honestly say the only time I've thought about how others spent their lock down time is when I've been queuing to get in to supermarkets at the weekend! Especially when 83 year old beryl is on front of me and she could have gone in the week

It's also annoying as I am a key worker but not classified as essential enough to get in during priority hours.

I've been working thru since March and I'm glad I have as I'm self employed and don't want to rely on government money.

I ain't gonna begrudge anyone on furlough their days out or enjoyment.

Also the daytrippers help out small businesses like shops and cafes.

Can I ask the OP what your job was and why you felt unsafe returning to work?

I've worked all the way through. My opinion is we cannot hide away forever. I've seen alot of people scared to work but, not scared to go to the beach or, meet in their houses.

My sector was forecasted by the office for budget responsibility to be one of the hardest hit. The effects wouldn’t be immediate like some areas such as hospitality so I’ve been working at home throughout and at the start of the crisis I was pretty worried about later down the line. It has been my biggest concern

It still isn’t totally clear how people will behave in relation to my sector and if the virus will put people off, but it has started looking pretty good, and I will be okay at my place

I will be doing some work on site from September but still mainly at home. I realise that I’m in a very fortunate position

I’m grateful to those who have gone out to work throughout to keep things going. And being furloughed would have been hell for me, not like a holiday at all. And I really feel for people who have lost their jobs

We’ve had to furlough some people but thankfully avoided any permanent layoffs so far.

We have however had somebody request to be furloughed because they “wanted their turn” and also somebody ask if they could stay on furlough because it’s “not too bad”.

Good luck for the future OP

I have worked all the way through both working at home and going to sites. A bit weird on the roads late March and April. I had people asking to go on furlong and some were very upset when it was denied. Now the same guys are grateful for staying in work and on a routine both for income and mental heath.

The government really did a good job on you with their scaremongering. As a 26 year old, your commute to work is probably more dangerous.
