"I understand the need for a price increase after lockdown.
Mine has increased by 100%..
Do you think prices will ever come down again or is the new deal here to stay?"
100% my salon has increased prices which I don’t think is fair in all honesty, I get a couple quid to cover our extra expenses for ppe etc but some our prices have one up £10+ absolutely ridiculous |

I would imagine they are trying to recoup some money that they lost over the past few months, sneaky but they know people out there will pay it.

Or they may lose all ther customers to the next one down the road...they got 80% furlough...so maybe 20% increase they could have got away with. |

Some customers are also subject to an independent apps charging the customer for booking fees too, such as £5 on top of increased prices. They could have spent time developing a website etc whilst closed, that could have created an in-house system for next to no cost. |

Well considering how many were eager to get booked in I have been dead at work, the anticipated rush has not happened here and I think some of it is down to the significant increases |

My dad paid £7:50
I think it's fair to charge I'm happy to pay it. Mind you our dentist doesn’t charge for PPE |

At dentist a fortnight back. They only have a visor as addition to pre covid and there usual paper masks on.
I would suspect the masks get change for every patient but the visor wont.
Also I didn't get a pipe charge |

That would cover the loss of wages but, like most people on furlough, the 20% of taxable income lost (so not 20% of net pay) would have been saved by not going out anywhere or saving on travel, gyms, etc...
However, it doesn't cover ongoing overheads the business has. Some of which, over 3 or 4 months, could mean an 100% increase is required, but, how long would it take to be charging such amounts to cover the losses? A month? |

My place charges £25, it’s always been appointment only and no rush at all.
Included in the price you get alcoholic drinks, soft drinks and snacks and a magazine to take away (stuff like T3, What bike etc) so once you take away these “freebies” £15 for a decent hair cut is quite good value.

Doubling the price is certainly extreme but a general price increase is reasonable to expect. Yes the staff may have been furloughed but what about the other expenses? Any rent or mortgage holidays will now need paying back which increases the current costs, they may have taken out loans etc to survive. Sanitiser and PPE all comes at a cost. |

Yeah but they didn't have to fork out for that long haul holiday |

My hairdresser comes to our house, self employed, increase is less than 5% on highlights and a cut, she said due to the cost of the products increasing at the wholesalers and not down to having wear ppe, which I believe as it appears everything else is increasing in cost. I gave her a little extra though as she’s a single mum and I know things will have been tough since March being self employed. |

I never checked the prices before getting my hair cut and as I live near a high street that has 10 plus barbers within a mile, I shall look around in future, interesting that the majority are Turkish... |

salons (and people renting chair in salons) can now fit less appointments in per day due to restrictions , normally they would have popped colour on one customer and then while it was developing started someone else or got a cut or blow dry done ... social distance means my hair dresser can now only have 1 in 1 out with 15 min cleaning time between clients
that means the “chair time” available has drastically reduced which would be how over heads such as rent / power/ insurance etc are shared out across the price list ... so that chair time just got more expensive per customer ... its not just about covering the cost of additional ppe
plus waiting 4 months for an appt meant i had to get full head of colour instead of root touch up ... so more product and more time
you cant blame them for passing these costs on |

Drinks, snacks & magazine? When I go I want my hair cut asap no time for dawdling with any of that
My Barber btw was same price as pre lockdown |

Hair dressers maybe but barbers certainly don't have 15 mins cleaning up time in between customers... |

I walk past a barbershop to get to work at the beginning there was a queue of people to get in. This week I’ve been walking past in the morning, lunchtimes and on the way back home, poor chap I just see him sat in his shop by him self looking bored. |

"My hairdresser retired but I've found a new one who I'm going to see next Friday. Didn't ask how much it would be

Rookie error. I haven't had to find a new hairdresser for about 14 years!! It's been a very stressful time! |

Do you think prices will ever come down again or is the new deal here to stay?" My mobile hairdresser increased mine by £4, the males prices by £2,and I paid a one off payment of £19.22 to cover the ppe and new brushes etc she bought for us. We were happy with this |

We put our prices up by £2 however we have not raised prices in 3 years and going to in April anyway. I’m self employed as is my boss, and had to go on universal credit for 4 months. Due to working at a loss over the last 2 years I was entitled to £4 on the seiss. Then had to buy all ppe, screens etc so £2 is pretty reasonable I think. Would never dream of doubling prices |

"My barber hasn't increased her prices at all."
Likewise with mine, even gave me the pensioners discount, I rewarded him with a £10 tip.
On a different tack we will not be reopening our nail salon, have worked out that even if we hiked up the prices it would be impossible to cover our outgoings |

No change in costs despite it being clear the business is doing 25% of its usual business and incurring additional costs. As the support packages taper it cannot be sustainable for businesses to cover its overheads. |

I’d happily pay a little extra if I could get someone to cut my hair. My asthma means I can’t wear a mask, I’ve tried all different kinds, have a real stash of masks here. Each one I’ve tried has caused an asthma attack as someone shielding, I really wish I could protect myself and wear one. Unfortunately, every hairdresser I’ve contacted has refused me an appointment because I can’t wear one. |
