"Are they properly open yet? What is it like getting in and out. "
They sure are! Things a obviously a little different, contactless self check in, and all sorts of werid rules about when the bar can open, but once you are in your room it's the same as ever!

Some of the Independent hotels are yet to reopen, if you have a usual haunt and usually just rock up, best to phone ahead as not many taking walk ins anymore.

I stayed in 1 but it was very quiet, the staff seemed ultra conscious of everything being strictly to the letter of the rules but having had some staff made redundant, they are possibly fearful of their jobs.
If it's a busier place where it's not so quiet that they know every guest by name, you could be fine and it may seem like normal timesm
Facilities are restricted and by hours open.
I've just added my specifics of a higher mid range Hotel to give some insight. |

Breakfast is my main meal of the day; when staying in hotels, I look forward to the buffet breakfast as I usually have two-three platefuls. My FWB visits in the evenings, so extra time in the room just means watching reruns of The Sweeney and Minder on ITV4...

Wales opens today - I am booked in a lodge near Cardiff. They have restrictions like no Bar open and Food is Take Away Only with Reception only open late on via request, That said we are two weeks behind in Wales.

I travelled from Wales to England for an unplanned 2 night stay in a hotel. Screens up at reception, sanitiser stations around the hotel. I pushed the revolving door with my foot. I did try to use the lift once to go up (2nd floor) but someone arrived behind me after the doors closed, pushed the button and the doors opened again, he stepped forward to come in to the tiny lift probably only designed to hold 2 people in normal times, so I jumped out quick and used the stairs
I didn't see any additional cleaning of communal areas while I was there though the maids did have face masks on.
The hotel was doing brekkie in the restaurant but I didn't eat in there.
Every place will obviously be different in their approach. You've just gotta be vigilant. |

We stayed at a hotel near Heathrow last week and it was fine. Where we stayed was very quiet and like many others have said, the restaurant options are different. Check in was fairly standard practice beyond using sanitisers and having a one way system. I think it works when places are quieter but the real tests will be when they’re at a higher capacity |

"I'm in a holiday Inn Express in Germany. Screens up, reserve a table time for breakfast, one at a time in the lift. Otherwise normal, except for the incredibly low price."
Can’t believe how cheap it is right now just booked 3 nights in Prague 4* with breakfast plus flights out of Stanstead £109 |
